TEACHERS OF DISRESPECT

Psalm103:1-12

And if I am master, where is the respect due me? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, “How have we despised your name?“

Mal. 1:6

           In the days of Israel, priests were supposed to guide people to have a good relationship with God. In Malachi’s time, they were really influencing people to despise God’s name.

           God’s reputation is his name. It is the way we think of him. At times people portray God as angry and evil. Other times we picture him as weak, unfair, or indifferent. When the believer does not show the world what God really is, he confuses people and makes them less likely to accept Him.  Fortunately, the Bible describes God as he really is -- compassionate, slow to anger, and abundant in love. Although God may be angry, his anger does not last, and his love returns. In his love  the Lord takes away our transgressions and sins “as he has removed the west from the east.”  When we read the Bible and accept it as God’s revelation, how he works  and what his purposes are, over time we can come to know him better. He is the only true and holy God who offers us salvation from sin. As we grow to know him better, we have a responsibility to honor his name around the world, showing people the loving God that he truly is.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are kind and loving. You have not ignored our sin or the difficulties in this world You gave your life to heal us. Help us to know you better every day. Amen.

MAESTROS DE DESPRECIO

Salmo 103:1-12

Si soy su Amo, ¿por qué no me respetan? Ustedes me desprecian, y dicen todavía: ¿En qué te hemos despreciado?

Mal. 1:6

           En los días de Israel se suponía que los sacerdotes orientaran a las personas a tener una buena relación con Dios. Pero en la época de Malaquías, en realidad ellos estaban influenciando a la gente a despreciar el nombre de Dios.

           La reputación de Dios es su nombre. Es la forma que pensamos de Él. A veces la gente retrata a Dios como enojado y malvado. Otras veces lo retratamos como débil, injusto o indiferente. Cuando el creyente no le muestra al mundo como Dios realmente es, confunde a las personas y las hace menos propensas a aceptarlo. Afortunadamente, la Biblia describe a Dios como realmente es: compasivo, lento para la ira y abundante en amor. Aunque Dios puede enojarse, su enojo no dura, y su amor regresa. Y en su amor, el Señor quita nuestras transgresiones y pecados, “como ha alejado del oriente el occidente.” Cuando leemos la Biblia y la aceptamos como la revelación de Dios, como actúa y cuáles son sus propósitos, con el tiempo podremos llegar a conocerlo mejor. Él es el Dios único, verdadero y santo que nos ofrece la salvación del pecado. Y a medida que crecemos para conocerlo mejor, tenemos la responsabilidad de honrar su nombre en todo el mundo, mostrando a las personas el Dios amoroso que realmente es.

 

Oración: Señor Jesús, eres amable y amoroso. No has ignorado nuestro pecado o las dificultades en este mundo. Tú distes tu vida para sanarnos. Ayúdanos a conocerte mejor cada día. Amén.
