DEPENDING ON JESUS

Mark 1: 40-45

Instantly the skin disease left him, and he was clean.

Mark. 1:42 (CEB)

            In life there are many serious illnesses such as cancer, AIDS, ebola, and the most recent virus, COVID-19.  Every one of these illnesses attacks the body and destroys it.  However, there is another illness that is even more serious than all of these others put together—it attacks the body and the soul—our sin.

            Leprosy is an illness that causes death to the nerves in the extremities of the body, it comes from an infection that decomposes the flesh and makes the ill person lose parts of the body like fingers, hands or a part of the face. In the time of the Bible’s story, there was no medicine to cure leprosy. This man knew he could not cure himself; only Jesus could help him.

            Thus, as the leper was unable to carry his illness alone, we need to depend entirely on Jesus. We need to trust his promises, and in the love and mercy of God which acts in our lives.  We bow down in the presence of God and recognize ourselves as sinners for whom Jesus died.  Our attitude counts in front of him: there is no way that we can undo the sin unless we are entirely submitted to the will of our Lord Jesus.

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you because I have known you and because only you can change my life.  Teach me to depend entirely on you because you are my Savior and my God. Amen.

DEPENDER DE JESÚS

Marcos 1: 40-45

Y al instante, le desapareció la lepra y quedó limpio.

            En la vida hay muchas enfermedades graves; ejemplo de ellas: el cáncer, el SIDA, el Ébola, y la más reciente, la Covid-19. Cada una de estas enfermedades atacan el cuerpo y lo destruyen. Sin embargo, hay otra enfermedad que es aún más grave que todas las anteriores juntas, ella ataca al cuerpo y al alma: nuestro pecado.

            La lepra es una enfermedad que causa la muerte de los nervios de las extremidades del cuerpo, lo que deriva en una infección que descompone la carne y hace que el enfermo pierda partes del cuerpo tales como los dedos, las manos, o alguna parte de la cara. En la é‚poca del relato bíblico no existía medicina para curar la lepra. Este hombre sabía que no podía curarse por sí mismo; solo Jesús podía ayudarle.

            Así como el leproso no podía llevar solo su enfermedad necesitamos depender enteramente de Jesús. Necesitamos confiar en sus promesas y en el amor y la misericordia de Dios actuando en nuestras vidas. Humillarnos en la presencia de Dios y reconocernos pecadores por quienes murió Jesús. Nuestra actitud cuenta delante de él; no hay manera que podamos deshacernos del pecado a menos que estemos sometidos enteramente a la voluntad del Señor Jesús.

 

Oración: Señor, gracias porque te he conocido y porque solo Túú puedes cambiar mi vida. Enséñame a depender enteramente de Ti porque eres mi Salvador y mi Dios. Amén.
