WHAT IS IT THAT GOD WANTS?

Psalm 63

You, God, are my God; earnestly I seek you.  (NIV)

Psalm 63:1

            As the kingdom changed, and faced the challenges of prosperity, so it was with David. That passion for God, which had burned in his soul during the early years, began to cool with the comfort of his new prosperity. Sadly, he seemed as if he didn’t need God as his place of safety, and he stopped seeking him to be that refuge.

            As David’s passion for God cooled, other passions began to take its place. David, the king, was also David the sinner, but he didn’t realize that things were better for him when he sincerely tried to live for God. Even when things seemed to go wrong, he had the strength because he always asked God for help, and God provided it. In difficult times he couldn’t even pretend to be self-sufficient. Facing difficulties, it constantly reminded him that he needed God. But he got into trouble with prosperity when he overlooked the need for God.

            Most of us dream of our kingdoms being established, sleeping in comfortable castles with our treasures and our borders expanding. But do we really know what we want? It takes a lot of grace to handle the responsibility of many possessions.

 

Prayer: God, we often bring you a list of our needs without really understanding what we need most. Provide for our lives what is just and edifying. Amen.

¿QUE ES LO QUE QUEREMOS?

Salmos 63

¡Dios mío, Tú eres mi Dios! Con ansias te busco.

Sal. 63:1

            A medida que el reino iba cambiando, y enfrentaba los desafíos de la prosperidad; así pasó con David. Esa pasión para con Dios, que había quemado en su alma durante los primeros años, comenzó a enfriarse con la comodidad de su nueva prosperidad. Tristemente, parecía que no necesitaba a Dios como su lugar de seguridad, y dejó de buscarlo para ser ese refugio. Mientras la pasión de David para con Dios enfriaba, otras pasiones comenzaron a tomar su lugar.

            David el rey, era también David el pecador. Pero no se dio cuenta de que las cosas le iban mejor cuando sinceramente trataba de vivir para Dios. Incluso cuando las cosas parecían ir mal, él tenía fuerzas porque siempre pedía ayuda a Dios, y Dios lo proveyó. En tiempos difíciles, no podía ni siquiera pretender ser autosuficiente. Hacer frente a las dificultades le recordaba constantemente que necesitaba a Dios. Pero se metió en problemas con su prosperidad cuando pasó por alto la necesidad de Dios.

            La mayoría de nosotros soñamos que nuestros reinos se establezcan, dormir en castillos cómodos, con nuestros tesoros y nuestras fronteras expandiéndose. Pero, ¿sabemos realmente lo que queremos?  Se necesita mucha gracia para manejar la responsabilidad de muchas posesiones.

 

Oración: Dios, a menudo te traemos una lista de nuestras necesidades sin entender realmente lo que más necesitamos. Provee para nuestras vidas lo justo y edificante. Améén.
