A JOB WITHOUT RETIREMENT

Joshua 24

I and my house will serve Jehovah. (NIV)  

Joshua 24:15

The most natural is that a person approaching the end of mortal age welcomes retirement. Some see retirement as an opportunity to achieve freedom from the routine of their employment. For them work is little more than a punishment. For others, retirement is the beginning of a new stage in their life. I ask myself now, “Does retirement exist in Christian life? Can I retire after so many years of being a Christian?”

After Joshua makes the announcement that he is old now, he outlines what his life will continue to be in the future. “I and my house will serve Jehovah.”

Retirement does not exist in Christian service. We have to continue serving our God while there is still a minute of life. At times we have the sensation that there are brothers in the church who appear to be in in the process of retirement, because they have already done so much for her. But when we take joy in the Lord, Christian service is not a punishment, rather a privilege. Therefore, it continues to be done with joy for a lifetime.

 

Prayer: Lord, give us the strength to fulfill the ministry you have called us to in Christian life. Amen.

UN TRABAJO SIN RETIRO

Josue 24

Yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová

Josué 24:15

            Lo más natural es que una persona que llegue al final de la edad laboral se acoja al retiro. Algunos miran la jubilación como una oportunidad para alcanzar la libertad de lo rutinario de su empleo. Para ellos el trabajo es poco menos que un castigo. Para otros el retiro es el comienzo de una nueva etapa en su vida. Me pregunto ahora: ¿Y en la vida cristiana existe el retiro? ¿A los cuántos años de cristiano puedo retirarme? Después que Josué hace el anuncio de que ya es viejo, bosqueja lo que continuará siendo su vida en el futuro. Yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová.

            En el servicio cristiano no existe la ley del retiro. Tenemos que continuar sirviendo a nuestro Dios, mientras haya un minuto de vida. Nos da la sensación de que a veces hay hermanos en la Iglesia que parecen como si estuvieran en los trámites de retiro porque ya han hecho bastante por ella. Cuando existe una vida que se goza en el Señor, el servicio cristiano no es un castigo, sino un privilegio. Por lo tanto se continúa haciendo con  gozo para toda la vida.

 

Oración: Señor, danos fuerza para cumplir con el ministerio al cual tú£ nos has llamado en la vida cristiana. Amén.
