THE TRAUMA OF LOSING MATERIAL GOODS

Job 1: 6-22

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Job 1:21 (NRSV)

            On returning from a trip abroad, the leader of our Church discovered that he had been robbed of practically everything. The only thing he said was, “Surely that person needed it more than I.” It wasn’t long before God had restored everything.

            What passes through our minds, how do we react, and what healing do we use when we lose some material goods? For the vast majority of us, our immune system is compromised for a long period during which illnesses take root causing long lines at the pharmacies, admissions to hospitals or negative social and familal conduct. Not long ago, being careless, I lost a Samsung telephone; I took the appropriate action and accepted the blame, which we don’t often admit, and I applied the verse.  I forgot all about the issue, and several weeks later, the Lord supplied me with a better phone. I know people who, because of a fight over a cell phone, have lost their lives.

            Therefore, let us amass spiritual riches which are never lost and let’s live the short time we have enjoying them, for they are eternal.

 

Prayer: Our Father, thank you for giving us the peace we ask for when we lose material goods, because you are the only one who can provide the peace that is greater than we can understand (Philippians 4:7), in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

EL TRAUMA DE PERDER ALGO MATERIAL

Job 1: 6-22

Desnudo vine a este mundo, y desnudo saldré de él. El Señor me lo dio todo, y el Señor me lo quitó; ¡bendito sea el nombre del Señor!

Job 1:21

            Al regresar de un viaje que un líder de nuestra Iglesia dio al exterior, descubrió que le habían robado prácticamente todo; pero sólo expresó: "...seguro que a esa persona le hacía más falta que a mí". No pasó mucho tiempo que Dios le multiplicó todo de nuevo.

            ¿Qué pasa en nuestra mente, cómo reaccionamos y qué terapia aplicamos cuando perdemos algo material? En la gran mayoría el sistema inmunológico se deprime por largos periodos, donde empiezan anidar enfermedades que conllevan largas colas en las farmacias, ingresos hospitalarios o conductas sociales y hogareñas negativas. No hace mucho perdí un teléfono Samsung por descuido; tomé las medidas correspondientes y cargué con la culpa, que muchas veces no la admitimos, y me apliqué el verso; me olvidé del caso y unas semanas después el Señor me suplió con uno mejor. He conocido personas que por la riña de un celular, han perdido la vida.

            Por tanto, acumulemos riquezas espirituales que no se pierden jamás y vivamos el corto tiempo que nos quede disfrutándolas, pues son eternas.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro gracias por darnos la paz cuando la pedimos al perder algo material pues eres el Unico que puede suplir la paz que es más grande de lo que podemos entender (Fil 4: 7).  En el nombre de Cristo Jesús. Amén.
