COME TO CHRIST

John 3:1-15

He came to Jesus by night

            Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, possibly out of sorrow and fear of Jewish society, since he was an important teacher at the time. However, we observe in him a true interest for the things of God and especially for Jesus. Christ quickly understood that he was thinking in material terms in this instance, even though the response he had received was spiritual in nature, because the new birth that Christ spoke of referred to a spiritual birth, not a material one.

            Just like Nicodemus, many people today continue thinking of Jesus and of material things instead of the spiritual ones which last, and they need to be reborn, just as Christ told Nicodemus. Another passage in the Bible calls our attention as it speaks again of this man in John 19:39: Nicodemus came to the tomb where Christ had been placed. This time it was by day, yet he had no problem in being seen.

            So we must do the same. Although our witness has often been obscured on occasion, little by little we grow in the spiritual life and come to give our witness in full day and without shame that we are Christians and friends of Christ – Christ who had no other way of being born of a woman, being God, and who died for us, being Son of our Creator.

 

Prayer: Lord, do not let us hide in darkness and fear. May we be able to proclaim you and give witness of you at all times. Amen.

VIENE A CRISTO

            Nicodemo fue de noche a Jesús; posiblemente por pena y miedo a la sociedad judía, ya que era un maestro importante de aquella época. Pero sin embargo notamos en él un verdadero interés por las cosas de Dios y en especial por Jesús. Cristo comprendió rápidamente que él estaba pensando en las cosas materiales en ese instante, aunque recibiría una respuesta de carácter espiritual, pues el nacer de nuevo que Cristo le dijera se refería a un nacimiento espiritual y no material.

            Al igual que Nicodemo, hoy en día muchas personas siguen pensando en Jesús y en las cosas materiales y no en las espirituales, que son las que perduran, y necesitan nacer nuevamente como Cristo le dijera a Nicodemo. Llama la atención otro pasaje de la Biblia que nos habla nuevamente de este hombre, en Juan 19:39 Nicodemo va al sepulcro donde han puesto a Cristo. En esa ocasión era de día, ya no había problema de que lo vieran.

            Así debemos hacer nosotros también. Aunque nuestro testimonio muchas veces ha sido en la oscuridad en alguna ocasión, poco a poco crecemos en la vida espiritual y llegaremos a dar nuestro testimonio en pleno día y sin vergüenza de que somos cristianos y amigos de Cristo, quien no tuvo a menos nacer de mujer, siendo Dios y morir por nosotros, siendo Hijo de nuestro Creador.

 

Oración: Señor, no nos dejes escondernos en la oscuridad y el temor. Que podamos ser capaces de proclamarte y dar testimonio de ti en todo tiempo. Amén.
