THE BEST GIFT

Romans 6

Now that you have been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.

Romans 6:18 (CEB)

            When approaching vacations we experience an incomparable emotion because we know that although it will only be for a few days, we will be able to rest and feel free from all the worry and commitments.  It is important to take advantage of this opportunity to feel free.  But what could be compared to the freedom that we have in Jesus Christ?  It is a freedom from sin, from fault and from shame. 

            Why do so many Christians forget this gift? We yearn to separate ourselves from work and routine for a time, but not from sin.  We do all the work necessary in order to get to have a free weekend to relax. But we vacillate in setting aside part of our time in prayer, looking for the presence of God. 

            Maybe it could be a time of examining ourselves.  As the text in Romans says, we are slaves to the one we obey.  This means that instead of giving up our yearnings, we find freedom only when we arrange to choose the path of Jesus Christ, to master our desires in Jesus and to follow him.  And although humanly it may seem impossible, remember that The One who makes us free is powerful to do all that is much more abundant than that which we ask or understand. 

 

Prayer: Lord, allow us to turn over our lives completely to you.  In your infinite love and grace, you died in our place so that we could fully live.  Thank you for your grace which has made us truly free.  Amen.

EL MAYOR REGALO

Romanos 6

… y libertados del pecado, vinisteis a ser siervos de la justicia

Romanos 6:18

            Al acercarse las vacaciones experimentamos una emoción incomparable, porque sabemos que aunque sea por unos días, podremos descansar y sentirnos libres de toda preocupación y compromiso. Esta oportunidad de sentirnos libres hay que aprovecharla. Pero  ¿podría compararse a la libertad que tenemos en Jesucristo? Es una libertad del pecado, de la culpa y de la vergüenza.

            ¿Por qué tantos cristianos nos olvidamos de este regalo? Anhelamos alejarnos del trabajo y de la rutina por un tiempo, pero no del pecado. Empleamos el tiempo que sea necesario en nuestras labores para lograr tener un fin de semana libre y relajarnos. Pero vacilamos en dedicar parte de nuestro tiempo en oración, en buscar la presencia del Padre.

            Quizás sea hora de examinarnos. Como dice el texto de Romanos, somos esclavos de aquel que obedecemos. Esto significa que en vez de ceder a nuestros anhelos, hallamos libertad solo cuando nos disponemos a elegir el camino de Jesucristo, dominar nuestros deseos en Jesús y seguirlo a Él. Y aunque humanamente parezca imposible, recordemos que  Aquel que nos hace libres es poderoso para hacer  todo mucho más abundantemente de  lo que pedimos o entendemos.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que  te entreguemos nuestra vida por completo a ti  que,  en tu infinito amor y gracia, moriste en nuestro lugar para que pudiéramos vivir plenamente. Gracias porque tu gracia nos ha hecho verdaderamente libres. Amén.
