GOD ATTENDS TO THE VOICE OF A MAN

Joshua 10:1-14

… A day when the Lord listened to a man.

It is interesting that we pay attention to this phrase from the text chosen for today. There has always been a great emphasis in the Bible and in the church that human  beings be attentive to God’s voice. Our devotionary is entitled His Voice, taken from Psalm 95:7 – 8, where it says, “Today, if only you would hear his voice. Do not harden your hearts,” which recalls the incident at Meribah, where Moses was confronted by the people, demanding he address the lack of water. (Exodus 17:1 – 7).

In the cited verses of the passage that gives title to the meditation, we see that listening or hearing has to do also with acting, that there must be doers, and not only listeners, as we are reminded in James 1:22.

We ask ourselves, “Why did God attend to the voice of Joshua? Would it not be because Joshua had first heard His Voice, and was fully participating in doing God’s work? When will God listen to our voice? When can we, and should we, listen to a person’s voice? Does this devotional help us to listen to his voice and the voice of our fellow man, and to say, pray, and speak in such a way that God hears our voice within the perspective of the kingdom?

 

Prayer: Hear us, O God, hear us, O God. Respond to our voice and give us peace. Amen.

DIOS ATIENDE A LA VOZ DE UN HOMBRE

Josue 10:1-14

Habiendo atendido Jehová a la voz de un hombre

Josué 1:14

            Es interesante fijarnos en esta frase del texto escogido para hoy. Ha habido  siempre un gran énfasis en la Biblia y en la Iglesia en que el ser humano debe atender la voz de Dios. Nuestro Devocionario tiene por título: Su Voz, tomado del Salmo 95: 7-8: Si oyereis hoy su voz, no endurezcáis vuestro corazón, que recuerda el incidente en Meriba cuando Moisés se vio confrontado por el pueblo que le reclamaba la carencia de agua (Éxodo 17:1-7).

            En los versículos citados del pasaje que encabeza la meditación, vemos que el oír tiene que ver también con el actuar, que  hay que ser  hacedores y no solamente oidores, como bien recuerda Santiago 1:22.

            Nos preguntamos: ¿Por qué atendió Dios a la voz de Josué? ¿No sería porque Josué  había oído primero Su Voz y estaba participando de lleno en hacer los quehaceres de Dios? ¿Cuándo Dios atenderá a la voz nuestra? ¿Cuándo nosotros podemos y debemos atender la voz de una persona? ¿Nos ayuda este devocionario a escuchar Su Voz y la voz de nuestros semejantes, y a pensar, orar, hablar en forma tal dentro de la perspectiva del Reino, que Dios atienda a nuestra voz?

 

Oración: Óyenos, oh Dios, óyenos oh Dios. Atiende a nuestra voz y danos tu paz. Amén.
