FORGIVE THEM

Luke 23

“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”

Luke 23:34 (NRSV)

            Humans are often offensive without realizing it. Christians must work in a distinct way to the extent that if we come to offend without intent, and the offended person asks us to make it right, we must ask pardon for the error, since we desire to be more like Christ. If, on the other hand, we offend and realize it, we must repair our error without being asked.

            But if we were the offended ones, what would our reaction be? Would we do as the Lord did? Would we have sufficient courage to deal with the situation?

            Taking the passage from Luke we see that possibly a lot of people were jeering at the Master, but they found that a true man who was God himself died there, one who was able to forgive not only simple offenses but to forgive those who hurt him, who spat on his face placing a crown of thorns on his forehead and nailing him to a cross. Nonetheless, he said, “Forgive them.” In our own lives, could we forgive such simple and silly things by comparison to those which Jesus faced?

            Place the words Forgive them in your mouth, and truly forgive.

 

Prayer: Father, my heart is fixed on you. I refuse not to forgive. In place of that, I will follow you and trust in you. Amen.

PERDONALOS

Lucas 23

Poco después Jesús dijo:¡Padre, perdona a toda esta gente! ¡Ellos no saben lo que hacen!

Lucas 23:34

            Los seres  humanos ofendemos muchas veces  sin darnos cuenta de ello. Los cristianos debemos obrar de una manera distinta, a  tal punto que si llegamos a ofender sin intención, y la persona ofendida nos pide  que reparemos la ofensa, debemos pedir perdón por la falta, así seremos más semejantes a Cristo. Si por el contrario, ofendemos y nos damos cuenta de ello, debemos reparar nuestro error sin que nos lo pidan.

            Pero si fuésemos nosotros los ofendidos, ¿Cuál sería nuestra reacción? ¿Haríamos lo que el Señor hizo?, ¿tendríamos el suficiente coraje para hacer frente a tal situación?

            Si tomamos el pasaje de Lucas veremos que posiblemente muchos estaban allí burlándose del Maestro, pero encontraron que allí moría un verdadero hombre que era Dios mismo, capaz de perdonar no sólo una ofensa sencilla, sino perdonar a  aquellos que le injuriaban, le escupían su rostro poniendo sobre su frente una corona de espinas y clavándolo en una cruz. Pero sin embargo, dijo: Perdónalos. ¿Seríamos nosotros capaces de perdonar en nuestra vida aquellas cosas sencillas y simples en comparación con estas que iban contra Jesús?

            Pon en tu boca la palabra: Perdónalos, y perdona verdaderamente.

 

Oración: Mi corazón está fijo en ti, Padre. Me niego a no querer perdonar. En lugar de eso, te seguiré y confiaré en ti. Amén.
