THE LORD HAS RISEN!

John 20:1-9

For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

John. 20:9 (NRSV)

            In the early morning on the first day of the week, Sunday, was when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. This woman from whom Jesus had cast out seven demons was the last one at the cross and the first at the tomb. When she reached the grave, she was stunned and terrified. Ancient tombs used to have no doors. At the entrance there was a channel in the ground through which a circular stone, like a mill stone, was rolled to close the entrance. Mary was perplexed to see that the stone was not in place.

            Peter and John were also perplexed not to see the lord’s body. Why didn’t they believe in the event of the resurrection? Because the disciples had not understood Scripture. They believed because of what they saw in the tomb, not because of what they knew about the resurrection. Jesus had prophesied his death and resurrection in the presence of his disciples, but they did not understand what He was talking about.

            Today is Easter Sunday. Christ lives! And his resurrection is the greatest act of love the Lord can give us today.

 

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for your glorious resurrection, and because you were resurrected your sons and daughters today have the same hope of resurrection. Our God: Allow us to always be willing to scrutinize the scriptures to get to know you fully. Amen.

¡EL SEÑOR RESUCITÓ!

Juan 20:1-9

Pues hasta entonces no habían comprendido que según la Escritura Jesús debíía resucitar de entre los muertos.

Jn. 20:9

            El primer día de la semana, domingo, fue cuando María Magdalena se dirigió a la tumba de madrugada. Esta mujer de quien Jesús había expulsado siete demonios fue la última en la cruz y la primera en la sepultura. Cuando llegó a la tumba, se quedó alucinada y aterrada. Las tumbas de la antigüedad no solíían tener puertas. En la entrada había como un canal en el suelo por el que se deslizaba una piedra circular, como las de molino, para cerrar la entrada. María se quedó perpleja al ver que la piedra no estaba en su sitio.

            Pedro y Juan también se quedaron perplejos al no ver el cuerpo del Señor. ¿Por qué ellos no creyeron en el evento de la  resurrección? Porque los discípulos no habían entendido la Escritura. Ellos creyeron debido a lo que vieron en la tumba, no debido a lo que conocían acerca de la resurrección. Jesús había profetizado su muerte y resurrección en presencia de sus discípulos, pero estos no entendieron lo que estaba hablando.

            Hoy es Domingo de Resurrección. ¡Cristo vive! Y su resurrección es el acto de amor más grande que hoy el Señor puede darnos.

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por tu resurrección gloriosa y porque gracias a que túú resucitaste tus hijos e hijas tienen hoy la misma esperanza de resurrección. Dios nuestro; permite que siempre estemos dispuestos a escrudiñar las Escrituras para conocerte plenamente. Amén.
