HOW DO WE CONFRONT DISCOURAGEMENT?

First Kings 19:1-8

The Lord is a safe place for the oppressed—a safe place in difficult times.

Psalm.9:9 (CEB)

            Immediately after his victory over the prophets of Baal, the prophet Elijah fell into a deep depression.  Elijah was disappointed at not seeing repentance on the part of his people and he fled quickly to the desert to save his life.  He wanted to die.  This brave, strong, solid man is found totally discouraged, defeated by the hardships and the enormous responsibility of being a prophet of the Most High God. 

            Many times the experiences in the desert are those that mark our lives.  Elijah needed to go to the desert to experience the power of the grace of God working in his life.  Jesus went to the desert as a necessary test.  We need to go to the desert, or maybe God puts us in the desert, so we can meditate on our spiritual poverty and discover how much we need God.  We know that suffering is inherent to human nature, and no one can avoid it. People find ways to evade penalties, appealing to certain methods.  Without fail, the best way to get over the penalties is to face them openly, to look for a solution to the problems and rest completely in God because only God has the answer to our difficulties.  Elmer D. Palmer said: “There is no failure for the one who counts on divine help.” 

 

Prayer: Lord, you are a faithful God, and you maintain your faithfulness toward us even when we go through desert experiences.  Lord, may we never forget the blessings we have received from You.  Amen.

¿CÓMO ENFRENTAR EL DESALIENTO?

1ra Reyes 19:1-8

Jehová será refugio del pobre, Refugio para el tiempo de angustia.

Sal. 9:9

            Inmediatamente después de su victoria sobre los profetas de Baal, el profeta Elías cae en una honda depresión. Elías se desespera al no ver arrepentimiento en su gente y huye despavoridamente al desierto para salvar su vida, y allí desea morir. El hombre valiente, fuerte, firme de carácter, se encuentra totalmente desanimado, derrotado por las dificultades y por la enorme responsabilidad de ser profeta del Dios Altísimo.

            Las experiencias del desierto son las que muchas veces marcan nuestras vidas. Elías necesitó ir al desierto para experimentar el poder de la gracia de Dios actuando en su vida. Jesús fue al desierto como una prueba necesaria, y nosotros necesitamos ir al desierto o que Dios nos ponga a la fuerza en el desierto para meditar en nuestra pobreza espiritual y descubrir cuanta necesidad tenemos de Dios. Sabemos que el sufrimiento es inherente a la naturaleza humana y nadie puede eludirlo.  La gente procura evadir las penalidades y para ello apela a distintos métodos. Sin embargo, la mejor manera de sobreponerse a las penalidades es encararse abiertamente con ellas, buscar solución a los problemas y descansar completamente en Dios porque solo El, tiene la respuesta a nuestras dificultades. Elmer D. Palmer dijo: “No hay fracaso para quien cuenta con el auxilio divino”.

 

Oración: Señor, tú eres un Dios fiel y mantienes tu fidelidad con nosotros aun cuando atravesamos experiencias del desierto. Señor, que nunca olvidemos las bendiciones recibidas de Ti. Amén.
