WATCH OUT FOR ANXIETY ABOUT TOMORROW

Luke 12:22-34

So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Matthew. 6:34 (NRSV)

            Corrie Ten Boom said: “Anxiety doesn’t eliminate tomorrow’s sadness, all it does is empty today’s strength.”

             Jesus warns of the danger that his disciples are in because of all the material things that they possessed and which they now did not have. Their eagerness or anxiety might lead them to think they didn’t have enough to live on. They had left everything to follow Jesus without contracts or guarantees. They lived by faith, and faith is always tested. Jesus tells them not to grieve for their lives. Did this mean that they should not look to the future, stop working, or sit down and wait for God to put everything in their hands?

            Obviously, the answer is no. God feeds the human being as well as the birds, but both must seek the sustenance of every day. Humanly we worry, but the Lord tells us that this is unnecessary because if God gives us life, he will also give us everything necessary for the maintenance of our bodies. We worry so much about the means to live that we forget the purpose of our existence: to glorify God.

            But seek his kingdom and his justice and everthing else will be added.  (Luke 12:31.)

 

Prayer: O God, allow us to always trust in your providence and not forget that you are the most important thing in our lives. Amen.

CUIDADO CON EL AFÁN.

Lucas 12:22-34

Así que, no os afanéis por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá su afán. Basta a cada día su propio mal.

Mt. 6:34

            Corrie Ten Boom expresó: “La ansiedad no elimina la tristeza del mañana, todo lo que hace es vaciar la fuerza de hoy”.

            Jesús advierte el peligro que corren sus discíípulos por todas aquellas cosas materiales que poseían y que ahora no teníían. Su afán o ansiedad puede llevarlos a pensar que no tenían lo suficiente para poder vivir. Ellos lo habían dejado todo para seguir a Jesús sin contratos ni garantíías. Vivían por la fe, y la fe siempre es sometida a prueba. Jesús les dice que no se afanaran por su vida. ¿Significaba esto que no debían mirar el futuro, dejar de trabajar o que se sentaran a esperar que Dios pusiera todo en sus manos?

            Evidentemente la respuesta es negativa. Dios alimenta al ser humano al igual que a las aves, pero ambos tienen que buscar el sustento de cada día. Humanamente nos preocupamos, pero el Señor nos dice que esto es innecesario porque si Dios nos da la vida nos va a dar también todo lo necesario para el mantenimiento de nuestro cuerpo. Nos preocupamos tanto de los medios para vivir que nos olvidamos del propósito de nuestra existencia: glorificar a Dios.

            Buscad primeramente el Reino de Dios y su justicia y todo lo demás vendrá por añadidura. Lc 12:31.
