THE LORD’S SUPPER

1st Corinthians 11:23-29

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. . .

            The pastor invites in his sermon: the time has come to celebrate the Lord’s Supper and some have come, and some who have stayed think “It’s late,” or “I’m tired . . .”

            You may think I exaggerate, but the importance of the Lord's Supper can become neglected and unworthy in the eyes of God.

            The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance that Jesus established. It represents the unity in his body, and we accept the terms of this agreement whenever we partake of the Lord’s table.

            A pastor of the Church of Scotland relates that an older woman came who hesitated in front of the cup of wine; he approached her saying, “Woman, drink! It is for sinners! It’s for you!” Undoubtedly, this old woman was aware of what it meant to participate in the Lord’s Table.

            If the Lord’s Supper were only for the perfect, none of us could draw near. But, take care! To be worthy of eating and drinking we must examine ourselves, reflecting on how our life is going and what is our relation with God.

 

Prayer: Lord, don’t ever let us drink and eat unworthily at your table. Place in us a repentant and hubled heart, completely ready for You.Amen.

LA SANTA CENA.

1ra Corintios 11:23-29

Por tanto, quien coma el pan o beba la copa del Señor indignamente, será reo del Cuerpo y de la Sangre del Seññor. Examínese, pues, cada cual, y coma así del pan y beba de la copa...

1 Co. 11:27-29

            El Pastor se extiende en el sermón; llega el tiempo de celebrar la Santa Cena y unos se han ido, y los que quedan piensan: es tarde o estoy cansado…

            Quizás piensen que exagero, pero la importancia de la Santa Cena puede llegar a descuidarse y ser indigna a los ojos de Dios.

            La Santa Cena es una ordenanza que Jesús estableció. La misma representa la unidad en su cuerpo y aceptamos los términos de ese pacto siempre que participamos de la mesa del Señor.

            Un Pastor en una Iglesia de Escocia refiere que viendo a una anciana que dudaba frente a la copa de vino se le acercó diciendo: ¡Tómala mujer! ¡Es para los pecadores! ¡Es para ti! Sin dudas esta anciana tenía conciencia de lo que significaba participar de la Mesa del Señor.

            Si la mesa del Señor fuera para los perfectos ninguno podríamos acercarnos. Pero, ¡Cuidado! Para ser dignos de comer y beber hemos de auto examinarnos; reflexionar acerca de cómo está nuestra vida y como va nuestra relación con Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, no permitas nunca que comamos ni bebamos indignamente de tu mesa. Pon en nosotros un corazón arrepentido y humillado; completamente dispuesto para Ti. Amén.
