DIDN’T YOU LISTEN, AGAIN?

Matthew 20:17-19

…on the way he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, “on the third day he will be raised to life.”  (NIV)

            On his journey toward Jerusalem Jesus predicts that his death will occur there. It would include betrayal and condemnation by the religious leaders of his people. Those that should be welcoming him as the promised Messiah would condemn him to suffering and death, turning him over to the Romans for mockery and crucifixion.

            Jesus also predicted that he would resuscitate; but it seems as if after hearing the predictions concerning his suffering and death the disciples–for some reason–didn’t pick up on his words. It’s as if they hadn’t listened to the promise stating, “On the third day he would be raised to life.”

            When the moment arrived, and Jesus died on the cross, the disciples were a group of despondent followers, asking themselves what had happened. In their fear they dispersed, leaving the burial and the preparations to others. There was no hope of a resurrection.

            Are we so different? We hear dire financial warnings or a terrible diagnosis from the doctor and we forget Jesus’s words, “I will be with you always.” (Matthew 28:20) We suffer ridicule or rejection and forget that God’s word warns us that we will be called to share in Christ’s sufferings. Let us remember that Jesus was resurrected. We serve a risen Savior! We serve a resuscitated Savior!

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the surety that you will always be with us no matter what we confront. Give us the tranquility of knowing that you are in control. Amen.

¿NO ESCUCHASTES DE NUEVO?

Mateo 20:17-19

…llamó aparte a sus doce discípulos y les dijo… al tercer díía resucitaré.

            En su viaje hacia Jerusalén Jesús predice que su muerte se llevaría a cabo allí. Incluiría traición y condena por los líderes religiosos de su pueblo. Los que deberían estar dándole la bienvenida como el Mesías prometido, lo condenaríían a sufrimiento y muerte, entregándole para burla y crucifixión por los romanos. Entonces Jesús también predijo que iba a resucitar. Pero parece que después de escuchar las predicciones sobre su sufrimiento y muerte, los discípulos de alguna manera, no captaron estas palabras. Es como si no atendieran la promesa de que “al tercer día” sería “levantado a la vida”. Cuando llegó el momento y Jesús murió en la cruz, los discípulos eran un grupo de seguidores abatidos, preguntándose que había sucedido. Se dispersaron en su temor, dejando el entierro y los preparativos a otros. No había esperanza alguna de una resurrección.

            ¿Somos tan diferentes? Oímos advertencias económicas nefastas o un terrible diagnóstico del médico, y nos olvidamos de las palabras de Jesús: “Yo estaré con ustedes todos los días”” (Mateo 28;20). Sufrimos el ridículo o el rechazo y olvidamos que la Palabra de Dios nos advierte que seremos llamados a compartir los sufrimientos de Cristo. Recordemos que Jesús resucitó. ¡Servimos a un Salvador resucitado!

 

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias por la seguridad de que estás siempre con nosotros, no importa lo que enfrentemos. Danos la tranquilidad de saber que estás en control. Amén.
