A CHURCH THAT PRAYS AT ALL TIMES

Matthew 6:9-13

Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 NRSV)

A pastor visited an old woman who was a member of his congregation. That old lady had been an invalid for a long time. “I’m so sorry I got here at this hour, but I had to tour the whole town before I came.”

            -Pastor, I too have had to tour the whole village... how is it possible? You can’t move out of bed. -Ahh... the old lady answered – my soul is not tied to the bed and so every day I walk through the village with my prayers, without moving from here.

            There is no doubt that a church that prays is a growing church, that it commits to the world in which it lives and that it dreams that the harsh reality in which we live can be changed. Our Father’s prayer is a prayer that makes sense for our personal and community walk, it was the way to remember that teaching of Jesus to his disciples about prayer. This is not only one of the first Christian prayers, but it also includes the faith of the church, the way to understand and celebrate its relationship with God, the way in which it understood itself as a church. This prayer shows us the image of a Church that feels part of the world and longs to make it a better, fairer, and more pleasant world, closer to the loving God, to the Father who is ours, but it is also father of all.

 

Prayer: Lord, show us how to pray. Show us that spiritual, personal and community growth is achieved through the power of prayer. Amen.

UNA IGLESIA QUE ORA EN TODO TIEMPO.

Mateo 6:9-13

Orad sin cesar.

1 Ts. 5:17

            Un pastor visitaba a una anciana que era miembro de su congregación. Dicha anciana había estado inválida durante mucho tiempo. –Lamento mucho haber llegado a esta hora, pero he tenido que recorrer todo el pueblo antes de venir.

            -Pastor, yo también he tenido que recorrer todo el pueblo... ¿Cómo es posible? Usted no puede moverse de la cama. -Ahh... contestó la ancianita –mi alma no está atada a la cama y así todos los días recorro el pueblo con mis oraciones, sin moverme de aquí.

            No cabe duda que una iglesia que ora es una iglesia que crece, que se compromete con el mundo en que vive y que sueña que la dura realidad en que vivimos pueda ser cambiada. La oración del Padre Nuestro es una oración que cobra sentido para nuestro caminar personal y comunitario, era la forma de recordar aquella enseñanza de Jesús a sus discípulos sobre el tema de la oración. Esta no solo es una de las primeras oraciones cristianas, en ella está recogida la fe de la iglesia, la forma de comprender y celebrar su relación con Dios, la manera en que se entendía a sí misma como iglesia. Esta oración nos muestra la imagen de una Iglesia que se siente parte del mundo y que anhela convertirlo en un mundo mejor, más justo y más placentero, más cercano al Dios amoroso, al Padre que es nuestro, pero también es de todos.

 

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a orar. Muéstranos que el crecimiento espiritual, personal y comunitario, se logra a través de la fuerza de la oración. Amén.
