HAPPINESS DESPITE THE CIRCUMSTANCES

PHILIPPIANS 4:12-14;19-20

I can endure all these things through the power of the one who gives me strength.

            We live in a consumer culture. The goal of propaganda is to sell you that which you never thought about buying.  There is something perverse in the publicity, something that creates in you needs that do not exist.  The person feels unhappy and miserable for not being able to buy what he or she sees and ends up spending money that he or she does not have.

            The apostle Paul exhorts the Philippians to content themselves in much as well as in little, in whatever circumstance they face.  We have to learn to be content.  If we have a lot, we should accept it humbly and with a peaceful conscience, giving thanks to God.  If we have a little, we should not complain against God, but accept God’s will in all things because the will of God is good, pleasant, and perfect.  Paul’s contentment does not depend on circumstances, be they good, so-so or bad, but because he possessed the peace of God.

            Our contentment does not come from external circumstances, not even from the basic or necessary things for living—sustenance, clothing, health, family, work. So, let’s stop complaining and lamenting about the circumstances of our lives. We cannot be victims of our circumstances, but victors over them.

 

Prayer: Thank you Lord because you provide all that is needed for our lives. Teach us to be content with what we have.  May we always be able to proclaim: The Lord is good; good is the Lord.  Amen.

Aniversario Iglesia San Nicolás

CONTENTAMIENTO A PESAR DE LAS CIRCUNSTANCIAS.

Filipenses 4:12-14;19-20

Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece.

Fil. 4:13

            La cultura de nuestros días es una cultura consumista. La propaganda tiene como propósito vender lo que tú nunca pensaste en comprar. Hay algo perverso en la publicidad, algo que crea en ti necesidades que no existen. La persona se siente infeliz y miserable por no poder comprar lo que ve, y termina gastando el dinero que no tiene.

            El Apóstol Pablo exhorta a los filipenses a contentarse tanto en lo mucho como en lo poco; en cualquier circunstancia. Hemos de aprender a contentarnos. Si tenemos mucho, debemos de aceptarlo humildemente y con conciencia tranquila, dándole gracias a Dios. Si tenemos poco, no debemos quejarnos contra Dios; sino aceptar su voluntad en todas las cosas porque la voluntad de Dios es: buena, agradable y perfecta. El contentamiento de Pablo no dependía de las circunstancias, fueran estas buenas, regulares o malas; sino porque poseía la paz de Dios.

            Nuestro contentamiento no proviene de las circunstancias externas; ni siquiera de las cosas básicas o necesarias para vivir como: sustento, abrigo, salud, familia, trabajo. Dejemos entonces de quejarnos, lamentarnos por las circunstancias que vivimos. No podemos ser víctimas de las circunstancias sino vencedores sobre ellas.

 

Oración: Gracias Señor porque provees todo lo necesario para nuestras vidas. Enséñanos a contentarnos con lo que tenemos. Que siempre podamos proclamar: El Señor es bueno; bueno es el Señor. Amén.
