GOD COMMISSIONS US TO WORK.

2nd Thessalonians 3:6-15

Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

2 Thessalonians 3:12NRSV)

            The Scottish writer, Walter Scott tells us that one day while riding in his boat, he noted that the oars used by the boatman each carried an inscription; one said “Pray” and the other “Work.” Scott asked what was their significance, and the boatman proceeded to show him. Immediately he put to work the oar with the inscription Pray, and the boat began to go in circles without advancing.  Then he took the our with the inscription Work and the boat began to turn in the opposite direction. Finally, he took the two oars with their respective inscriptions, Pray and Work, and the boat headed forward. “Do you understand?” asked the boatman. “Yes,” Scott replied. Anyone who is not guided proportionately by prayer and work will never advance toward his goal. Prayer without work, or work without prayer can never provide us any spirituality.

            One of the most difficult problems confronting the Church of Thessalonica was that no one wanted to work. An idler was referred to as one whose path was disorderly. Humans need work to feel completely useful. God created people to work. A church that prays for growth without working becomes a lazy church. There is so much work to be done; we all have the possibility to create and to build. Let’s cheer up!

Prayer: God, we thank you that you direct our lives. Place in us the desire to work ardently. Take from us laziness and conformity. Amen.

DIOS NOS COMISIONA A TRABAJAR.

2da Tesalonicenses 3:6-15

A ésos les mandamos y les exhortamos en el Señor Jesucristo a que trabajen con sosiego para comer su propio pan.

2 Ts. 3:12

            El escritor escocés Walter Scott nos cuenta que un día, mientras paseaba en su bote, notó¢ que los remos utilizados por el barquero llevaban cada uno una inscripción; uno decía: Ora, y el otro: Trabaja. Scott le preguntó cuál era su significado y enseguida el barquero procedió a mostrárselo. Inmediatamente puso en marcha el remo que tenía la inscripción Ora y el barco comenzó a dar vueltas sin avanzar; luego tomó el remo que tenía la inscripción Trabaja, haciendo girar el barco en sentido contrario. Finalmente, tomó los dos remos con sus respectivas inscripciones: Ora y Trabaja; y el bote se dirigió hacia delante. ¿Entendió usted? -preguntó el barquero. Síí, respondió Scott. Una persona que no la guíe proporcionalmente la oración y el trabajo nunca alcanzara la meta. La oración sin trabajo o trabajo sin oración no pueden propiciarnos espiritualidad alguna.

            Uno de los problemas más graves que presentaba la Iglesia de Tesalónica era que no querían trabajar. Una persona ociosa era llamada como alguien que andaba desordenadamente. El ser humano necesita del trabajo para sentirse plenamente útil. Dios creó al hombre para trabajar. Una Iglesia que ora por su crecimiento pero que no trabaja se convierte en una Iglesia perezosa. Hay tanto trabajo por realizar; todos tenemos la posibilidad de crear y construir. ¡Animémonos!

 

Oración: Dios, gracias porque Tú diriges nuestra vida. Pon en nosotros el deseo de trabajar ardientemente. Quita de nosotros la pereza y el conformismo. Amén.
