THE PROMISES OF GOD

Isaiah 62:6-12

I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;

Isaiah 62:6a NIV

            I am pretty sure that all people have had promises made to us. Some are fulfilled, others are not.

            When the promised item does not come, we can feel a certain frustration. In different Biblical texts we can read about the promises of God to God’s people as a whole or to a specific person. The promises of God always give security in the midst of difficult times. It is fascinating to have the certainty that we can hold onto a hope, especially if it comes from God. In addition to announcing his coming, the watchmen above the walls of Jerusalem in this text, receive the additional task of getting God to remember his promises until they are fulfilled.

            In this portion of Isaiah, he intends to combat the community’s hopelessness. In times of doubt, where many times we become hopeless and we do not see a way to get out of the problems, God says to us: Here I am, I will not forsake you. Trust in me. I will not forsake you.

 

Prayer: God of life, today we ask you to help us hold on to our hope. We trust in your promises that give us breath for our daily walk. Amen.

LAS PROMESAS DE DIOS

Isaías 62:6-12

Sobre tus muros, oh Jerusalén, he puesto guardas

Isaías 62: 6 a

            Me atrevería a asegurar que a todas las personas nos han hecho promesas. Algunas se cumplen, otras no.

            Cuando lo prometido no se lleva a cabo podemos sentir cierta frustración. En diferentes textos bíblicos podemos leer acerca de las promesas de Dios con su pueblo o con determinada persona. Las promesas de Dios siempre nos dan seguridad en medio de tiempos difíciles. Es fascinante tener la certeza de que podemos conservar una esperanza, especialmente si viene de Dios. Los guardas sobre los muros de Jerusalén en este texto además de anunciar su venida, reciben la tarea adicional de lograr que Dios recuerde sus promesas hasta que se cumplan.

            En esta porción de Isaías se intenta combatir la desesperanza colectiva. En tiempos de incertidumbre, donde muchas veces nos desesperamos y no vemos una manera de salir de los problemas, Dios nos dice: Aquí estoy, no te desampararé. Confía en mí. No te desampararé.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, hoy te pedimos que nos ayudes a conservar nuestra esperanza. Confiamos en tus promesas que nos dan aliento en nuestro diario caminar. Amén.

GOD LOVES ME

Matthew 28:16-20

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:20 NIV

            Nothing remains outside of the scope of God’s power. Christians believe in an Omnipotent God and Father. Power and fatherhood go together in God. In God, love and power always function in conjunction with one another. Love is strength.

            Jesus comes close to you to say: All power is given to me in heaven and on earth. It is not a display of force, it is an individual message that comes close to you. Jesus Christ is not a distant God, he draws near and speaks to you. He is one with the Father and He is one with you. Your anxiety and pain of today are not alien to Jesus: he knows them, he feels them and says to you: All power is given to us…

            The power of God works in you in the way of eternal love that it is, not in the way of immediate power that it also is. God can love you as you are and also love me as I am, and this proves that God is our Father; yours and mine. God’s great, lasting love is always applied to our lives. He has the power to regenerate and construct in us that which sin degenerates and destroys. The eternal power is eternal fatherly love at work.

 

Prayer: Our Father, make us sensitive to your presence and to your constant love. Amen.

DIOS ME AMA

Mateo 28:16-20

… y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén.

Mateo 28:20

            Nada queda fuera del ámbito del poder de Dios. Los cristianos creen en un Dios Todopoderoso y Padre. El poder y la paternidad van unidos en Dos. En Dios, amor y poder funcionan en conjunción siempre. Amor es fuerza.

            Jesús se acerca hoy a ti para decirte: Toda potestad me es dada en el cielo y en la tierra. No es un alarde de fuerza, es un mensaje individual que te llega de cerca. Jesucristo no es un Dios lejano, se acerca y te habla. Él es uno con el Padre; Él es uno contigo. Tu angustia y dolor de hoy no son ajenos a Jesús: los conoce, los pulsa y te dice: Toda potestad nos es dada…

            El poder de Dios obra en ti a la manera del amor eterno que es, no a la manera del poder fulminante que también es. Dios puede amarte como tú eres y también a mí como yo soy, y eso prueba que Dios es Padre nuestro: tuyo y mío. Su grande amor permanece siempre aplicado a nuestras vidas, tiene poder para regenerar y construir en nosotros lo que el pecado degenera y destruye. El poder eterno es amor paternal eterno en funciones.

 

Oración: Padre nuestro, haznos sensibles a tu presencia y a tu amor constante. Amén.

JULY 29

TRUE LIGHT

John 1:1-14

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 1:9 NIV

            Currently, the majority of us have been suffering from constant blackouts in our homes. When we suffer this absence of electricity, our first reaction is to turn on a light. Very few enjoy the darkness that immediately lurks. In the text, John speaks to us of a different kind of light, a light that is not like the light we know, the kind that frequently goes out. John speaks to us of a light that can not be put out, he refers to the true light that came to illumine all humans. This light is the light of Jesus, in whom was life, and life was the light of humans. Jesus came to illuminate the path so that we would not walk in darkness. But he also calls us to be lights and to carry the light to illumine the way for others who have not yet known it.

            May we be like Jesus, who, despite difficulties, never turned out his light. Do not ever put out your light, do not hide it, but put it up high so that others can see through you.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, we give you thanks for your light, thanks for freeing us from the darkness. Now we ask that you help us to always have our light lit to illumine the way for those who need you. Amen.

LA LUZ VERADERA

Juan 1:1-14

Existía la luz verdadera que al venir al mundo alumbra a todo hombre.

Juan 1:9

            En estos tiempos la mayoría de nosotros hemos estado sufriendo de constantes apagones en nuestros hogares. Cuando sufrimos esta ausencia de electricidad, nuestra primera reacción es  encender una luz. Muy pocos disfrutan de la oscuridad que acecha el momento. En el texto Juan nos habla de una luz diferente, una luz que no es la que conocemos, pues esta se apaga frecuentemente, Juan nos habla de una luz que no puede apagarse, el se refiere a la luz verdadera que vino a alumbrar a todo hombre. Esta luz es Jesús, en aquel que estaba la vida y la vida era la luz de los hombres. Jesús vino a alumbrarnos el camino para que no anduviéramos mas en oscuridad, pero también nos llama a ser luces y ser portadores de esa luz para iluminar a aquellos que aun no le han conocido.

            Seamos como Jesús, que a pesar de las dificultades nunca apago su luz. Nunca apagues tu luz ,no la escondas y ponla en alto para que otros puedan ver a través de ti.

 

Oración: Padre amado te damos gracias por tu luz, gracias por liberarnos de las tinieblas. Ahora te pedimos que nos ayudes a siempre tener nuestra luz encendida para iluminar a aquellos que te necesitan. Amén.
