GOD’S PLAN VS. MY PLAN

Jeremiah 29: 10-14

I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 (CEB)

Let me share with you a lesson that I read some time ago: How many times have you seen yourself making plans and plotting dreams without looking for guidance from God? This is an error that we all have committed on various occasions. The truth is that we are very confident and think our own prudence is enough to believe that all will end up well, forgetting that as human beings, our vision of what is in front of us is very short. There are many differences between our plans and God’s plans.

* In the first place, God’s plan is perfect. Our plan is plagued with errors.

* God’s plan does not add sadness. Our plan is at times conditioned by pain.

* God’s plan does not deceive, while our plan is not always in line with results.

*And on top of it all, God’s plan never fails, while our plans….

I do not believe there is a need to make a comparison on this last point–for some reason we already fail daily. Now, if we give our hearts to God, and we commend to Jesus our destiny in order that the Holy Spirit will be manifest in our lives, there will not be anything or anyone who can hold us back. It will not be by our determination, nor by the quality of the project that we have made, but by the back-up of the Lord that will accompany us on every day of our lives.

Prayer: Thanks I give to you Lord, because I depend on you and not on myself. Forgive me when at times I want to impose my plans, and I fail to accept your will which is holy and perfect. Amen.

WHY, GOD?

Judges 6

With all due respect, my Lord, if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?

Judges 6:13a (CEB)

Lamentably, in actuality, we hear a lot of talk about the prosperity gospel. Basically this gospel posits that if we accept Jesus, we will never have problems again.

The people who embrace these concepts are faced with the same doubt that Gideon had, causing the inevitable difficulties that came upon him. In addition to feeling abandoned, Gideon had to recognize his impotence. The answer that God gave Gideon is the same one that God continues to give all who seek God sincerely and with a meek spirit. This answer is found in verse 16: “Trust in me, because I am with you.”

We can be living in unfavorable circumstances, but God will always accompany us and comfort us. On the other hand, there is no philosophy that can help us escape the inevitable end to which all human beings arrive. Gideon recognized his vulnerability and looked for God before receiving the blessing of victory.

In your case, have you felt abandoned when you had to face difficulties? Have you felt unable to resolve your problems? The answer of the Lord our God is the same that he gave to Gideon: you can do this because I will help you. With the help of the Lord, strengthened by God, we can have hope in the promise of Jesus: Trust. I have overcome the world.

Prayer: Lord, it doesn’t matter what I may have to go through. I know that I can always count on you, strengthened by your presence. Amen.

¿POR QUÉ, DIOS?

Jueces 6

Yo he vencido al mundo.

WE ARE NEVER ALONE

Genesis 28:15

The Lord counsels those who honor him, he makes his covenant known to them.

Psalm 25:14 (CEB)

Despite the population explosion in the world around us, one characteristic of contemporary societies is the loneliness in which humans live. There are multiple and diverse reasons for this to occur. Nevertheless, there is unanimity in the affirmation that loneliness carries much suffering. It can be seen that it does not only affect people who live alone, but anyone can be found to suffer loneliness. Also, there are those who feel alone despite being surrounded by people.

To overcome sadness and combat suffering imposed by loneliness, God offers us the comfort of being with us every day. And God is our most true friend. God listens to all that we have to say when through Christ we turn over our pains and expectations in prayer. He covers our needs.

If we have family and friends near us, we should not waste the opportunity to relate to them in a deep and significant way. But at times when loneliness comes to accompany us, we should take advantage of the opportunity to draw closer to God and develop a more intimate relationship with God. Only the Lord deeply knows our heart and only God can calm all feelings of anguish and loneliness.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, because I have the certainty that I am never alone, that you always are with me, and you will never abandon me. Amen.

NUNCA ESTAMOS SOLOS

Genesis 28:15

DON’T TAKE THE BLAME ANYMORE

JOHN 8:3-11

Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, don’t sin anymore.”

John 8:11 (CEB)

For some people it is easier at times to forgive someone else than to forgive themselves. The feeling of guilt is so strong that it does not give us a minute’s rest. This happens, generally, when the consequence of the sin committed has no resolution. People who pass through these situations can justly find themselves in desperation because there is no return.

The woman who was discovered committing adultery could not go back either. The adultery had already been consummated. Now let us imagine the shame that she felt to see her sin exposed in front of a crowd. Even more than feeling guilty and destroyed, she now had to bear with the accusations of other people. Nevertheless, in front of her was Jesus, who relieved her sorrow. Jesus was so merciful that, in place of condemning her, he freed her of all accusations. Christ showed those people that all were sinners, just like the woman caught in adultery. And Jesus freed her from her guilt.

For the Lord makes no distinction among sins, there is no sin larger or smaller than another. He extends his forgiveness over all people who repent and ask forgiveness, no matter what the sin might be. In this way, Jesus offers us relief from guilt. If guilt eats away at you for some sin that you committed, confess it to God and trust in his forgiveness. Then, remember the love of Jesus, for we can have a new life in Christ.

Prayer: Thank you, my Jesus, for your sacrifice on the cross for me. Thank you because there is no greater example of love than that. Thank you for the gift of a new life in you, Amen.

NO SE CULPE MAS

Juan 8:3-11

Jesús le dijo: “Tampoco yo te condeno. Puedes irte, pero no vuelvas a pecar.”

Juan 8:11

THE SUIT

1 Samuel 17

David strapped his sword on over the armor, but he couldn’t walk around well because he’d never tried it before. “I can’t walk in this,” David told Saul….

1Samuel 17:39 (CEB)

King Saul insisted that David put on his suit: a type of armor that the soldiers were accustomed to use in battle. Saul was convinced that the young man would not win over Goliath; but at least, since no one else was ready to fight, he wished to help the little warrior in some way. He wanted to put on David something that even he himself would not use. David put on Saul’s suit and tried to move, but he could not even walk. The weight of the helmet, the size of the clothing and his inexperience in the use of bellicose equipment made the young man decide to take it off and not use it to face the giant. He did not depend on the king’s resources to reach victory. He simply trusted in God and behaved in a brave manner, using the abilities that he had learned during his work as a shepherd of the sheep.

A very important teaching is enclosed in this story: we should not accept the molds that others want to put on us. At times, people with a desire to help tell us what to do or stuff like that. We must think for ourselves and consider what God wants for our life. What talents and gifts did God give us? Let us listen to the counsel, but let us live according to what God hopes of us.

Prayer: Lord, help us to live our life according to what you ask of us, to what you want of us. Amen.

EL TRAJE

1 Samuel 17

STEPS

Psalm 9:10

No one will be able to stand up against you during your lifetime.  I will be with you in the same way I was with Moses. I won’t desert you or leave you.

Joshua 1:5 (CEB)

Surely, we have all heard or read that beautiful story where a person and Jesus talk after having traversed a long walk along the sea. Looking back, they can see two sets of footprints left in the sand, an image of what it means to walk with God at all times. What a joy to be accompanied by God throughout many years! But the person is surprised to check in some of the segments of the walk there is only one pair of footprints, and this coincides exactly with the times of greatest tests and crises. Then he rebuked the Lord for having left him alone in these circumstances. Jesus then responded to him with love and understanding, explaining that those footprints did not belong to the person, but to Jesus himself, when he took him in his arms in the most difficult parts of the path.

Life is a path that we have to travel day after day. At times we cover long distances with relatives, friends or other people, who offer their company on the long journey. But no one can offer us that which only our Creator can and wants to give us:  his presence and strength in all situations that we have to face.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus, for you are always at our side in the good times and in the bad times.  Amen.

PISADAS

Salmo 9:10

SEEING IS BELIEVING!

John 20:19-31

Jesus replied, “Do you believe because you see me? Happy are those who don’t see and yet believe.”

John 20:29 (CEB)

The appearance of the resurrected Christ took away the disciples’ fear. They were convinced that He was the same Jesus that had been crucified a few days before, as the wounds in his hands and his side proved.

Jesus was not hard on Thomas in spite of his doubts. In spite of his skepticism, Thomas continued being faithful to the brothers in the faith and to Jesus himself. Some have to doubt before believing. If doubt motivates questions, and these elicit correct answers, it has completed a positive task. On the other hand, when doubt is converted into obstinacy that becomes chronic, doubt hurts faith. When you doubt, don’t stay there.  Let the doubt deepen your faith as you search for the answer.

Some people think that they will believe in Jesus if they see a miracle or a definite sign.  But Jesus says that blessed are those who believe without seeing. We have all the proof that we need in the words of the Bible and in the testimony of believers. A physical appearance would not make Jesus more real than he already is now. In order to understand the life and mission of Jesus with more breadth, all we have to do is to study the Gospels. John tells us that he has included only some of the many signs that Jesus did on earth. But that which is written is all that we need to know to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, through whom we receive eternal life.

Prayer: Lord, do not allow us to mistrust you during our toils. Fill us with your Holy Spirit.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

¡VER PARA CREER!

Juan 20:19-31

Jesús le dijo: “¿Crees porque me has visto? ¡Dichosos los que creen sin haber visto!”

Juan 20:29

EARTHQUAKES

Psalm 125:1

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;  though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalms 46:2-3 (NRSV)

People who have suffered the terrible experience of going through an earthquake say that everything feels normal until suddenly everything changes. At first they think that they are just feeling a strange sensation, but they quickly realize that something serious is going on: the whole earth is shaking. Then everyone runs around in desperation.

Unfortunately, life will have moments that seem like earthquakes: acts, times, and situations that have the power to fell us and often to ruin us.

We can’t prevent earthquakes, but it is possible to take certain precautions with the intent of being safe and surviving. In life, some things are inevitable, but we can do what we must to hang on and keep going.

The most important: lets get close to God and trust him. Even though everything around us is shaking, he will help us and keep us stable.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for I am sure that at all times I will find my strength in you. Amen.

TERREMOTOS

Salmo 125:1
