GOD’S PRESENCE AT ALL TIMES

Exodus 13:17-22

The Lord’s name is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and find refuge.

Proverbs 18:10 (CEB)

The great French poet, novelist, playwright and critic Victor Hugo said:  Behind every cloud that sends us shadows is the sun that sends us light.

Fear, pain, and uncertainty are no more than the crude reality that experiments with human beings who face adverse life situations.  The Hebrew people physically suffered the tragedy of living in the shadows for a long time.  They were enslaved persons, destined for physical mistreatment and forced labor.  God’s Word declares that the presence of God was always with the Hebrews. This same God will be their guard and never will separate from them, whatever the circumstances that they face. The column of clouds served as protection and shade during the day while the column of fire lit their way during the night.  They are visible symbols of the miraculous manifestation of the divine presence and surveillance.

The presence of God is also manifest today in God’s church. The eternal love of God has accompanied us even in dark or shadowy times.  We have had tests and difficult times where we have felt God’s protecting arm, God’s strength and comfort, thus, renewing our lives.  Our faith either grows or gets smaller to the extent that we visualize the presence of God in each area of our lives.

Prayer: Lord, thank you because your presence is always with us and because you show us even in the darkest moments of our lives that your love is eternal and unconditional.  Amen.
