OUR FAITH IN GOD

Mark 5:21-24; 35-36

But without faith it is impossible to thank God… (NIV)

Hebrews 11:6

            It is told that when the great missionary Hudson Taylor went to China he traveled on a sailing ship. As he approached the Malay Peninsula and the island of Sumatra the missionary heard someone knocking on his cabin door. Opening, he heard the captain say, “Mr. Taylor, there is no wind, we are approaching an island where I fear cannibals are found.”  Mr. Taylor asked, “What can I do?”. The captain replied, “I understand that you are a Christian and that you believe in God. I need you to pray to God to send us wind.”

            “All right Captain, I’ll do it. But first you need to raise and open the sails.”

            “But that would be crazy,” said the captain. “There is no wind; the sailors will think I’m crazy.”

            After much insistence on the part of the missionary the captain submitted to what Taylor said. He raised and opened the sails of the ship.

            After 45 minutes the captain returned to find Taylor still on his knees praying. The captain said, “You can stop praying now, we do not even know what to do with all the wind we have.”

            Christ knows our sorrows, anxieties and fears, and shows compassion toward us. Each word of the Lord is a phrase of encouragement and hope for our lives, but the faith that Jesus demands is not just any kind of faith.

 

Prayer: God, give us enough faith to trust in you at all times. Let us always remember your promises light our way. Amen.

NUESTRA FE EN DIOS

Marcos 5:21-24; 35-36

Pero sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios…

Heb 11:6

            Se cuenta que cuando el gran misionero Hudson Taylor fue a China, viajó en un barco de velas. Mientras se acercaba a la península de Malay y la isla de Sumatra, el misionero escuchó a alguien tocando la puerta de su cabina. Al abrir encontró al capitán diciendo, “Señor Taylor no hay viento; estamos acercándonos a una isla donde temo se encuentran caníbales”.

            ¿Qué puedo yo hacer? -preguntó el señor Taylor. El capitán respondió: “Yo entiendo que tú eres cristiano y que crees en Dios. Necesito que ores a Dios para que nos mande viento.

            Está bien capitán yo lo haré; “pero primero tú necesitas levantar y abrir las velas”.

            Pero eso sería una locura -dijo el capitán: “No hay nada de viento, los marineros creerán que estoy loco”.

            Después de mucha insistencia de parte del misionero se sometió el capitán a lo que Taylor decía: levantó y abrió las velas del barco.

            Después de cuarenta y cinco minutos, el capitán regresó y encontró al misionero Taylor todavía sobre sus rodillas, orando. El capitán le dijo: “Puedes dejar de orar ahora”. "No sabemos ni qué hacer con todo el viento que tenemos".

            Cristo conoce nuestras penas, ansiedades y temores y muestra compasión hacia nosotros. Cada Palabra del Señor es una frase de aliento y esperanza para nuestras vidas; pero la fe que Jesúús demanda no es cualquier tipo de fe.

 

Oración: Dios, danos la Fe suficiente para confiar en Ti en todo tiempo. Permite que podamos recordar siempre que tus promesas iluminan nuestro camino. Amén
