THANKS TO GOD AT THE END OF THE TRIMESTER

John 3:5-13

Give thanks in all circumstances

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

Thanks to God:

Because he gives us the true meaning of life

Because day after day, moment by moment, he cares for us with love, he gives us comfort, joy, and forgiveness

Because without Him we are nothing and can do nothing

Because through Him we love those around us and we eagerly try to serve those who need our help

Thanks for the services we receive from others, derived from his love

Thank you, thank you, because after the storm you give the rainbow. Thank you eternally for everything you give us

Thank you, for your sacrifice on the cross in giving your Son for our salvation.

 

Prayer: Beloved God, we pray that humanity may know to recognize how beautiful and great is the gift of giving your Son for our redemption. With Him you have given us all other things. Amen.

GRACIAS A DIOS EN EL FIN DEL TRIMESTRE

Juan 3:5-13

Den gracias a Dios en todo

1 Tesalonicenses 5:18

Gracias a Dios:

Porque nos da el sentido verdadero de la vida

Porque día a día, momento tras momento, nos cuida con amor, nos da el consuelo, la alegría y el perdón

Porque sin Él nada somos y nada podemos hacer

Porque por Él amamos a los que nos rodean y afanosamente tratamos de servir a aquellos que necesitan de nuestra ayuda

Gracias por los servicios que recibimos de otros, derivados de su amor

Gracias, gracias, porque tras la tormenta tú das el arco iris. Gracias eternamente por todo lo que nos das

Gracias, por tu sacrificio en la cruz al entregar a tu Hijo para nuestra salvación.

 

Oración: Dios amado, oramos para que la humanidad sepa reconocer cuán hermosa y grande es la dádiva de entregar a tu Hijo para nuestra redención. Con Él nos has dado todas las demás cosas. Amén.

A HIGHER LAW

Galatians 5:13-23

Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Romans 13:10 (NIV)

Undoubtedly, the experience the conversion of Saul, a zealous Pharisee, a flawless follower of the law as his tradition taught him, made him completely change his way of understanding how to be considered righteous before God.

In the passage from Galatians, as well as in the cited text from Romans, or in the first epistle to the Corinthians, Paul tries to demonstrate that the fulfillment of the law is not what is essential but is moved by a deeper inner reality, which is not restricted to a mechanical fulfillment of an action that is simply moved by love.

Saint Augustine is believed to have said: “Love, and do what you will.” The higher law is then that of love, which is capable of the greatest sacrifice, of total surrender, without reserve, that which Christ himself demonstrated by dying on the cross.

As believers we must at least try to walk this same path of discipleship, in love and selfless service. Only love, as the singer-songwriter would say, engenders wonder.

 

Prayer: Your love, Lord, is too incomprehensible for us, but imbued with your example, we want to love our neighbor and thus bear witness to your mercy. Help us. Amen.

UNA LEY SUPERIOR

Gálatas 5:13-23

El amor no hace mal al prójimo, así que el cumplimiento de la ley es el amor

Romanos 13:10

Indiscutiblemente la experiencia de conversión de Saulo, celoso fariseo, cumplidor intachable de la ley según su tradición le enseñaba, le hizo cambiar completamente su modo de entender cómo se puede ser considerado justo delante de Dios.

Tanto en el pasaje de Gálatas, como en el texto citado de Romanos, o en la primera epístola a los corintios, Pablo se esfuerza en demostrar que el cumplimiento de la ley no es lo esencial sino va movido por una realidad interna más profunda, que no se restringe a un mecánico cumplimiento de normas, sino que es producto de un actuar que lo mueve simplemente el amor.

De san Agustín se dice que sentenciaba: “Ama, y haz lo que quieras”. La ley superior es entonces esta del amor, que es capaz del sacrificio mayor, de la entrega total, sin reservas, esa que el propio Cristo demostró al morir en la cruz.

Como creyentes nos toca intentar al menos andar por ese mismo camino del discipulado, en amor y en servicio desinteresado. Solo el amor, diría el cantautor, engendra la maravilla.

 

Oración: Tu amor, Señor, es demasiado incomprensible para nosotros, pero impregnados de ese ejemplo tuyo, queremos amar al prójimo y dar testimonio así de tu misericordia. Ayúdanos., Amén.

WORKING IN THE SPIRIT

Romans 8: 1-

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Romans 8:14 (NIV)

In the conversation with Nicodemus, that important Pharisee, Jesus tells him that which is born of the flesh, is flesh, but that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit. In the same way Paul differentiated what he called the carnal believer from the spiritual believer. In his first letter to the Corinthians he devotes part of the second chapter to this distinction, based on his experience working in the Spirit of God, and not according to the human traditions that had never led him to live a full life like the one he experienced after meeting Jesus Christ.

The teachings of the New Testament insist that the early church was a “pneumatic” type, of the Spirit, because the experience of receiving the Holy Spirit, regardless of the manifestations it may have had, was what gave their leaders the ability and the strength to proclaim the gospel, without looking at obstacles, or dangers, or threats.

Working in the Spirit, not according to our carnal nature, is what should really distinguish us as followers of Christ Jesus, witnesses of his resurrection and collaborators in the endeavor to establish his Kingdom.

 

Prayer: We ask you, good Lord, to continue to strengthen your Church with the gift of your Spirit, in order for us to work according to your will and to be your faithful servants. Through Jesus, Amen.

OBRAR EN EL ESPÍRITU

Romanos 8: 1-6

Porque los hijos de Dios son todos aquellos que son guiados por el Espíritu de Dios

Romanos 8:14

En la conversación con Nicodemo, aquel importante fariseo, Jesús le dice que lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es, pero lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es. De igual manera Pablo diferenciaba lo que el llamaba creyente carnal del creyente espiritual. En su primera carta a los corintios dedica parte del capítulo dos a esta distinción, basado en su experiencia de obrar en el Espíritu de Dios, y no conforme a las tradiciones humanas que nunca le habían llevado a vivir una vida plena como la que experimentaba luego de conocer a Jesucristo.

La enseñanza del Nuevo Testamento insiste en que la iglesia primitiva era una de tipo “pneumática”, del Espíritu, porque la experiencia de recibir el Espíritu santo, independientemente de las manifestaciones que haya podido tener, fue la que capacitó y fortaleció a sus líderes para la proclamación del evangelio, sin mirar obstáculos, o peligros, o amenazas.

Obrar en el Espíritu, no conforme a nuestra naturaleza carnal, es lo que realmente nos debe distinguir como seguidores de Cristo Jesús, testigos de su resurrección y colaboradores en el empeño de establecer el Reino.

 

Oración: Queremos pedirte, buen Dios, que sigas fortaleciendo a tu iglesia con el don de tu Espíritu, para obrar conforme a tu voluntad y serte fieles servidores. Por Jesús, amén.
