FOR LOVE

John 14: 21-26

Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.

 John 14:21 (NIV)

Jesus’ way of teaching the disciples is sometimes disconcerting and disorienting. When questioned, Jesus’ answers are not what would generally be expected, but those wise and forceful ones that the disciples need to hear. This time it isn’t about diluting themselves in questions that may distance them from the message of Jesus. It is a matter, as followers and disciples of Christ, of focusing on the essential, on that which edifies and makes it possible for the manifestation of God to be present in the world. It is about fulfilling the commandments of Jesus out of love, which at the same time are filled with meaning and life in one word: Love 

- Loving God

- Loving ourselves

- Loving our neighbors

The way we love and allow ourselves to be loved reflects how well we truly know God as He has manifested Himself to us. Only through love can we show that God dwells in our lives.

 

Prayer: Loving God, we give thanks to you for showing us the way. May we not lose the true sense of following you. May everything we do and say be a result of your loving presence in our midst. Amen.

POR AMOR

Juan 14: 21-26

El que guarda mis mandamientos..., ése es el que me ama...

 Juan 14:21

La manera que Jesús tiene de enseñar a los discípulos desconcierta, descoloca. Ante sus preguntas, generalmente, las respuestas del Maestro no son las esperadas,  pero sí aquellas sabias y contundentes que los discípulos necesitan escuchar. Esta vez no se trata de diluirse en preguntas que les puedan alejar del mensaje de Jesús, se trata como seguidores, discípulas de Cristo, de enfocarse en lo esencial, en aquello que edifica y que hace posible que la manifestación de Dios sea presente en este mundo. Se trata de por amor cumplir los mandamientos de Jesús, que al mismo tiempo se llenan de sentido y vida en una palabra: Amar

- Amar a Dios

- Amar-nos

- Amar a quien está próximo

La manera como amamos y permitimos que nos amen refleja si verdaderamente conocemos a Dios, si se nos ha manifestado.  Solo a través del amor podremos mostrar que Dios habita en nuestra vida. 

 

Oración: Amado Dios, te agradecemos por mostrarnos el camino, permite que no perdamos el sentido verdadero de seguirte, que todo lo que hagamos y digamos sea consecuencia de tu presencia amorosa en medio nuestro. Amén.

A LOVE OF ACTION

1 John 3: 18-24

This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence.

1 John 3:19 (NIV)

Our faith calls us to be a part of the same path of love and justice, to actively work for the Kingdom of God. We know that faith can move the greatest, the unthinkable, the hearts of  people. Faith moves us to live in love; otherwise, it would deny itself. Now then, love must be the precious fuel that moves our lives in their entirety. It is not enough to feel that we have faith when we are together in church. It is not enough to greet each other with affection and to speak of God’s love; to say that we love our neighbor. Sometimes, we remain at the door; we say we do, but we do not take the necessary steps to “do,” to move us to act with love for those around us. To love in truth is an action. It is to do for others, for those we love. In this way, our hearts tell us what to do: to live in truth by loving.

 

Prayer: God of life and truth, we long for more of your love, that we may show that we live in love. Amen.

UN AMOR DE ACCIÓN

1 Juan 3: 18-24

En esto sabremos que somos de la verdad y nos sentiremos seguros delante de él.

1 Juan 3:19

Nuestra fe nos llama a ser parte de un mismo camino de amor y justicia, a trabajar activamente por el Reino de Dios. Sabemos que la fe puede mover lo más grande, lo impensable, los corazones de las personas. La fe nos mueve a vivir en amor, de lo contrario se negaría en sí misma. Ahora bien, el amor debe ser el combustible preciado que mueve nuestras vidas íntegramente. No es suficiente con sentir que tenemos fe cuando estamos juntos en la iglesia, no basta con saludar con cariño, y hablar del amor de Dios; decir que amamos a nuestro prójimo. A veces nos quedamos a las puertas, decimos y no damos los pasos necesarios al “hacer”, al movernos a actuar con amor por quienes tenemos al lado. Amar en verdad, es una acción, es hacer por el otro y la otra, por quienes amamos. De esto el corazón nos da cuenta, vivamos en verdad amando.

 

Oración: Dios de vida y verdad, anhelamos más de tu amor, que podamos mostrar que vivimos el amor. Amén.

LIVING COMPANIONSHIP ON THE ROAD

John 14: 7-14

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

John 14:8 (NIV)

In life we commit ourselves in many ways and in different areas: with family, with friends, with neighbors, at work and in the Church. At times our commitment is wrapped up in the hopes that something else will happen along the way. We begin a journey, a new day, or an adventure; out of duty, of necessity, with our eyes on the finish line, or the goal; and in this way we sometimes lose sight of the real value of commitment at every moment of the journey.

If the only thing that was valued was the end goal, we put at risk losing the company of others. We miss the opportunities to learn, the challenges in the curves, the dialogues of those who accompany us, which are the essence. We sink into the tasks because we think of ourselves at the center. Then we might say, if only I could see God, I would go on with more strength, when we really could have him next to us in the form of our neighbor.

 

Prayer: Loving God, I want to walk with you always. Help me to live each step, in friendship with those who accompany us and enjoy the journey. Amen.

VIVIENDO LA COMPAÑÍA EN EL CAMINO.

Juan 14: 7-14

Felipe le dijo: Señor, muéstranos al Padre, y nos basta.

En la vida nos comprometemos de varias formas, en diferentes áreas, con la familia, amigos, con los vecinos, en el trabajo y en la Iglesia. A veces nuestro compromiso se ve envuelto a la espera de que algo más suceda en el camino. Comenzamos una jornada, un nuevo día, un camino de aventura, del deber, de necesidad, con los ojos puestos en lo que vamos a encontrar al final, en la meta; y de esta forma a veces perdemos el valor real del compromiso en cada momento del andar.

Si lo único que valiese fuese el final ponemos en riego la compañía, desaprovechamos las oportunidades de aprender, los retos en las curvas, los diálogos de quienes nos acompañan, cuales son la esencia, y nos hundimos en los quehaceres, porque pensamos para nosotros, como centro, entonces decimos; si tan solo pudiera ver a Dios, seguiría con más fuerza, cuando lo tenemos al lado, de prójimo.

 

Oración: Amado Dios, quiero caminar siempre contigo, ayúdame a vivir cada paso en amistad con quién nos acompaña y disfrutando el camino. Amén.
