Against the Wind
Matthew 14: 22-33
Even
though I walk through the darkest valley
I fear no evil because you are with me. Psalm 23:

When we find ourselves
in a tough predicament we go to God so that he might come to our side quickly. That’s
not troubling at all to God, because why would it bother him to have a son ask
for help when the sea is roiling and the rudder indomitable? At times our
problems are so complicated that it would take a miracle to untangle them.
The boat in which the disciples
were traveling was being “lashed by the waves because the wind was against them;”
and many times the Lord permits us to face the contrary winds for hours, and we
feel oppressed of heart and our confidence in reaching a safe port fails. Then
our sole consolation is the prayer for Jesus to intercede before the Father on
our behalf.
No one is going to ask us to walk on water
now; that deals with a practically impossible exercise according to the law of
physics; but what this story truly tells us is that in the middle of the most
furious tempests we fall to our knees and recognize who we should trust, and
from whence comes our salvation. Only thus can we walk through life without
sinking into desperation and fear.
Prayer: Lord, come quickly
to my aid. Amen.

CON EL VIENTO EN CONTRA
Mateo 14:22-33
“Aunque deba yo pasar por el valle más sombrío, no temo sufrir daño alguno,
porque tú estás conmigo”

Cuando nos vemos en apuros
nos dirigimos a Dios para que venga pronto en nuestra ayuda. A Dios eso no le
molesta en absoluto porque ¿cómo le va a molestar que un hijo le pida auxilio
porque el mar se ha puesto farruco y no consigue dominar el timón? Nuestros
problemas son tan complicados a veces que solo un milagro puede desenredarlos.
La barca en la que iban los
discípulos se vio “azotada por las olas, porque tenían el viento en contra”, y
muchas veces el Señor permite que nosotros pasemos por horas de “viento
contrario”, entonces sentimos que el corazón se nos oprime y la confianza de
llegar a buen puerto desfallece. Entonces solo nos consuela la oración de Jesús
que intercede por nosotros ante el Padre.
Nadie nos va a pedir que caminemos ahora sobre
las aguas, se trata de un ejercicio prácticamente imposible según las leyes de
la física. Pero lo que verdaderamente enseña este relato es que, en medio de
las tempestades más furiosas, doblemos las rodillas y reconozcamos en quién
debemos confiar y de dónde viene nuestra salvación. Solo así podremos andar por
la vida sin hundirnos en la desesperación y por el miedo.
Oración: Señor, ven pronto en mi auxilio. Amén.
