A CHURCH THAT PRAYS AT ALL TIMES

Matthew 6:9-13

Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 NRSV)

A pastor visited an old woman who was a member of his congregation. That old lady had been an invalid for a long time. “I’m so sorry I got here at this hour, but I had to tour the whole town before I came.”

-Pastor, I too have had to tour the whole village... how is it possible? You can’t move out of bed. -Ahh... the old lady answered – my soul is not tied to the bed and so every day I walk through the village with my prayers, without moving from here.

There is no doubt that a church that prays is a growing church, that it commits to the world in which it lives and that it dreams that the harsh reality in which we live can be changed. Our Father’s prayer is a prayer that makes sense for our personal and community walk, it was the way to remember that teaching of Jesus to his disciples about prayer. This is not only one of the first Christian prayers, but it also includes the faith of the church, the way to understand and celebrate its relationship with God, the way in which it understood itself as a church. This prayer shows us the image of a Church that feels part of the world and longs to make it a better, fairer, and more pleasant world, closer to the loving God, to the Father who is ours, but it is also father of all.

Prayer: Lord, show us how to pray. Show us that spiritual, personal and community growth is achieved through the power of prayer. Amen.

UNA IGLESIA QUE ORA EN TODO TIEMPO.

Mateo 6:9-13

Orad sin cesar.

1 Ts. 5:17

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a orar.

DO NOT JUDGE SO AS NOT TO BE JUDGED

Juan 7:53-8:11

“…Whoever hasn’t sinned should throw the first stone.”

John. 8:7 (CEB)

The incident that morning resembled the trial of anyone who commits violations of the law. The defendant was a woman (unnamed), whose crime was adultery. According to the law of Moses, every man or woman who had committed adultery was punishable by the death penalty. But the Pharisees and Scribes violated the law of Moses, which required the other party to also appear at trial. (Dt 22: 22-24). What right did they think they had to take by force a woman and publicly admonish her? Weren’t they guilty of thinking, talking, and acting hypocritically themselves?

Jesus in speaking to them puts the matter on their own consciences and they themselves will be the ones who denounce themselves. We have a saying like this: “Conscience is both a witness, a prosecutor and a judge.” The Lord transformed a legal matter into a moral matter. Jesus in the scriptures forbids us to make judgments about others. Do not judge or you too may be judged (Mt 7:7). We tend to criticize in others the same mistakes we make. We are intransigent and intolerant and do not show love and compassion when we make such judgments. We become judges of people. The Church must take care not to assume legalistic positions, pharisaical patterns. We must not forget love for one’s neighbour, forgiveness, mercy, and justice.

Prayer: Lord forgive our sins; make us better creatures in your Kingdom. Allow us to love each other from the heart without judging others. Amen.

NO JUZGAR PARA NO SER JUZGADOS.

Juan 7;53-8:11

WATCH OUT FOR ANXIETY ABOUT TOMORROW

Luke 12:22-34

So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Matthew. 6:34 (NRSV)

Corrie Ten Boom said: “Anxiety doesn’t eliminate tomorrow’s sadness, all it does is empty today’s strength.”

Jesus warns of the danger that his disciples are in because of all the material things that they possessed and which they now did not have. Their eagerness or anxiety might lead them to think they didn’t have enough to live on. They had left everything to follow Jesus without contracts or guarantees. They lived by faith, and faith is always tested. Jesus tells them not to grieve for their lives. Did this mean that they should not look to the future, stop working, or sit down and wait for God to put everything in their hands?

Obviously, the answer is no. God feeds the human being as well as the birds, but both must seek the sustenance of every day. Humanly we worry, but the Lord tells us that this is unnecessary because if God gives us life, he will also give us everything necessary for the maintenance of our bodies. We worry so much about the means to live that we forget the purpose of our existence: to glorify God.

But seek his kingdom and his justice and everthing else will be added.  (Luke 12:31.)

Prayer: O God, allow us to always trust in your providence and not forget that you are the most important thing in our lives. Amen.

CUIDADO CON EL AFÁN.

Lucas 12:22-34
