THE GREATEST WITNESS

John 1:29-34

Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

John 1:29 (NRSV)

The synoptic gospels narrate the scene of Jesus’ baptism. But the Gospel of John gives us the testimony of John the Baptist about the baptism and his encounters with Jesus.

Sure words that he was the Christ, the Messiah expected by all and announced by the prophets is the greatest possible witness. It was revealed to him by God, and the dove as a sign of the Holy Spirit, which seals this reign of God as a kingdom of love, peace, justice and truth for a larger world.

Today, followers of Christ have to share and struggle so that this Kingdom becomes a reality for all people without exclusions. God invites us to make this the true meaning of the Church: to worship God and serve others.

 

Prayer: Our Father, may each day bring us your message to construct your Reign. Amen.

ENERO 3, MIERCOLES

EL MEJOR TESTIMONIO

Juan 1:29-34

He aquí el cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo.

Juan 29:6

Los evangelios sinópticos narran la escena del bautizo de JEsus. Mas el de Juan, nos da el testimonio de Juan el Bautista sobre el bautizo y sus encuentros con JEsus.

Palabras seguras de que era el Cristo, el Mesias esperado por todos y anunciado por los profetas. Es el mejor testimonio posible. Le fue revelado por Dios, y la paloma como sepal del Espiritu Santo, sella este reinado de Dios como un reino de amor, paz, justicia y verdad para un mundo mejor.

Hoy, a los seguidores de Cristo nos toca compartir y luchar porque este Reino se haga realidad para todas las personas sin exclusiones. Dios nos invita a que ese sea el verdadero sentido de la Iglesia: adorar a Dios y servir a los demás.

 

Oración: Padre nuestro, que cada dia nos traiga tu mensaje para construir tu Reino. Amén.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 2

THE VOICE IN THE DESERT CALLING FOR REPENTANCE

John 1:19-28

He said,

 “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’”

John 1:23 (NRSV)

John gives testimony of Christ before the community of Jews who feared a Messiah who was different from and alien to them. He says I am not the Christ, there is one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal. He baptized only with water, a symbol of cleansing and purification for them, and for us now. Repent was his proclamation. Salvation and the Holy Spirit will come with Jesus Christ.

Only by recognizing that we are not perfect will we be worthy of receiving the salvation which is offered to us by grace.

This message reaches us and shows us that the path of faith is not easy, but that the Holy Spirit is there to accompany us. Let’s give thanks to God who has shown mercy to his people.

 

Prayer: Lord, give us a clean heart to receive you each day. Strengthen our faith, for Jesus. Amen.

ENERO 2, MARTES

LA VOZ EN EL DESIERTO LLAMA AL ARREPENTIMIENTO.

Juan 1:19-28

Dijo: Yo soy la voz de uno que clama en el desierto, enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijo el profeta Isaías.

Juan 1:23

Juan da testimonio de Cristo ante la comunidad de judios que temian un Mesias que fuera diferente y ajeno a ellos. Él dice: no soy el Cristo, pero viene uno que fue antes que yo, y al cual no soy digno de desatarle las sandalias. Él solo bautiza con agua, simbolo de limpieza y purificación para ellos y para nosotros ahora. Arrepiéntanse, esa fue su proclamación. La salvación y el Espiritu Santo vendrán con Jesucristo.

Solo reconociendo que no somos perfectos seremos dignos de recibir la salvación que nos es ofrecida por gracia.

Ese mensaje llega hasta nosotros y nos muestra que el camino de la fe no es fácil, pero que el Espiritu Santo está ahi para acompañarnos. Demos gracias a Dios que ha tenido misericordia de su pueblo.

 

Oración: Señor, danos un corazón limpio para recibirte cada dia. Aumenta nuestra fe. Por JEsus, amén.

MONDAY, JANUARY 1

New Year

GLORIFY AND PRAISE GOD

Luke 2:16-21

The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

Luke 2:20 (NRSV)

Today we have begun a new year. Also the sprit of Christmas is still present, and perhaps we have laid future plans with the hope of improving our lives materially and spiritually.

The message of Christmas was delivered first to the most humble and simple of people, the shepherds who received the news of the Gospel and without doubting went in search of the promised Messiah. On arrival they spoke of the miracle of the angels. With joy they accepted that their future king was born in such a humble corner. On returning they praised God and told everyone all that had happened.

Is the proclamation of God’s Reign in our future plans? Or for us, is it something routine that consists of going to church every week?

Every year and every day we must renew our vows to proclaim the Gospel with deeds and with words, certain of what we have seen and heard, and sharing it as the shepherds did that first Christmas.

 

Prayer: God, we thank you for drawing near to us. Give us faith to proclaim your Reign. Amen.

Año Nuevo

GLORIFICAR Y ALABAR A DIOS

Lucas 2:16-21

... y volvieron los pastores glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían visto y oído.

Lucas 2:20

Hoy hemos comenzado un nuevo año. Aún el espíritu de la Navidad está presente, y quizás hemos hecho planes futuros con el propósito de mejorar nuestras vidas, material y espiritualmente.

El mensaje de la Navidad fue llevado primeramente a las más humildes y sencillas personas: los pastores son los que reciben la noticia del Evangelio y sin dudar van a buscar al Mesías prometido. Al llegar hablan del milagro de los ángeles. Con alegría aceptan que su futuro rey nació en aquel humilde rincón. Al regresar alaban a Dios y cuentan a todos lo ocurrido.

¿Está en nuestros planes futuros la proclamación del Reino de Dios? ¿O es para nosotros algo rutinario que consiste en ir cada semana al templo?

Cada año y cada día debemos renovar nuestros votos de proclamar el Evangelio con hechos y con palabras, estar seguros de que lo hemos visto, y oído, y compartirlo como hicieron los pastores de esa primera Navidad.

 

Oración: Dios, te damos gracias porque tú te has acercado a nosotros. Danos fe para proclamar tu Reino. Amén.
