God prepares us from the womb

Isaiah 49:1-7

The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.

Isaiah 49:1 (NRSV)

I’ve always felt a strong connection to being around older people. Ever since I was a child, my mother’s closest friends were also my own, but I had no idea that God was preparing me for this.

When I encountered God and joined His church, the elderly were my priority there as well, and I never even imagined that a senior ministry existed. During the interview the pastor conducted with me before my baptism, he asked: “From what you’ve seen and done in the church, what do you think is the gift God has given you?” The Holy Spirit spoke immediately through me, and I answered: “Working with the elderly.” To the pastor’s surprise—since that ministry didn’t exist in the church—we were able to start ministering to the group of elderly members. And I became their leader. Today, the elderly members have great love for me, and I have great love for them.

We should always trust that God has a purpose for each of us. Let us be grateful for the abilities and gifts He gives us.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for the gifts and talents you have given us. Work in those who have not yet discovered theirs. Thank you for the strength your Spirit gives us. Amen.

Dios nos prepara desde el vientre

Isaías 49: 1-7

“Jehová me llamó desde el vientre, desde las entrañas de mi madre tuvo mi nombre en memoria”.

Isaías 49:1

Siempre sentí gran afinidad por estar rodeada de ancianos. Desde niña, las mejores amistades de mi madre eran también las mías, pero estaba muy lejos de sospechar que era algo para lo que Dios me estaba preparando.

Al tener un encuentro con Dios y llegar a su iglesia también ahí los ancianos fueron mi prioridad y ni me imaginaba que existía un ministerio de la tercera edad. En la entrevista que me hiciera el Pastor, antes de mi bautizo, me preguntó: de lo que has visto y servido en la iglesia, ¿cuál crees que sea el don que Dios te ha regalado? El Espíritu Santo habló de inmediato por mí, y contesté: trabajar con la tercera edad. Para sorpresa del Pastor, pues ese ministerio no existía en la iglesia, pudimos iniciar el acompañamiento al grupo de ancianos. Y llegué a ser su líder. Hoy los ancianos sienten gran amor por mí y yo por ellos.

Siempre debemos confiar en que Dios tiene un propósito para cada uno de nosotros. Agradezcamos por las capacidades y dones que nos regala.

Oración: Gracias mi Dios por los dones y talentos que nos regalas. Obra en aquellos que aún no han descubierto los suyos. Gracias porque tu Espíritu nos capacita. Amén.

COURAGE AND FRAGILITY IN DISCIPLESHIP

John 13: 36-38

“… I will lay down my life for you.”

John 13:37 (NIV)

This passage reveals the tension between the desire to follow Christ and human frailty. Peter’s love for Jesus is real. But without the strength of the Spirit, he breaks down under the pressure of fear.

As believers, we can identify with Peter. We want to boldly proclaim our faith, but in trials we find ourselves weak. The true strength of discipleship does not come from our determination, but rather from God’s grace. Jesus does not reject Peter, on the contrary, he has already prepared his path to restoration. After the resurrection, Peter will be reaffirmed in his calling and become a powerful witness to the gospel.

In the same way, our failures are not the end, but an opportunity for Christ’s mercy. We are called to recognize our fragility and to depend deeply on the Lord. Let us not trust in our own courage, but in the faithfulness of the One who never denies us, but forgives us, restores us, and strengthens us to follow Him, even when we have failed.

Prayer: Jesus, we recognize our own weaknesses and tendency to deny you. Sustain us with your grace, forgive us when we fall, and restore us so that we may follow you faithfully. Make us your witnesses in the world. Amen.

VALENTÍA Y FRAGILIDAD DEL DISCIPULADO

Juan 13, 36-38

“…Mi vida pondré por ti.”

Juan 13:37

Este pasaje nos revela la tensión entre el deseo de seguir a Cristo y la fragilidad humana. El amor de Pedro por Jesús es real. Pero sin la fortaleza del Espíritu, se quiebra ante la presión del miedo.Como creyentes, podemos identificarnos con Pedro. Queremos proclamar valientemente nuestra fe, pero en las pruebas nos descubrimos débiles. La verdadera fuerza del discipulado no proviene de nuestra determinación, sino de la gracia de Dios.Jesús no rechaza a Pedro, al contrario, ya tiene preparado su camino de restauración. Después de la resurrección, será reafirmado en su llamado y se convertirá en testigo poderoso del evangelio. Del mismo modo, nuestras caídas no son el final, sino oportunidad para la misericordia de Cristo. El llamado es a reconocernos frágiles y depender profundamente del Señor. No confiemos en nuestra propia valentía, sino en la fidelidad de aquel que nunca nos niega, más nos perdón, restaura y fortalece para seguirle, incluso cuando hemos fallado.

Oración: Jesús, reconocemos nuestra debilidad y tendencia a negarte. Sostennos con tu gracia, perdónanos cuando caemos y restáuranos para seguirte con fidelidad. Haznos tus testigos en el mundo. Amén.

ALWAYS BE THANKFUL

John 12:1-11

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

John 12:3 (NIV)

This passage is about generosity. Mary took time to thank Jesus by giving him her best, something very valuable to her; Martha served, and Lazarus shared his table. Each one gave of themselves what they had to give.

Nothing we have in our lives makes us better or superior. The constant invitation is to share what we have, not to cling to material things, and to place what is truly important in terms of what is rewarding for our lives. There are many ways to give thanks, not by giving what we have left over, but by sharing in community, where everything that is given has value and matters to Jesus.

What could we give to Jesus today to show our gratitude? The house filled with perfume is a symbol of the presence of Jesus who transforms and restores everything. May this Lent be filled with your best perfume.

Prayer: God of life, may we live a faith that is embodied, generous, and communal. May we always be able to be thankful. Amen.

AGRADECE SIEMPRE

Juan 12:1-11

“María tomó como medio litro de nardo puro, que era un perfume muy caro y lo derramó sobre los pies de Jesús, secándoselos luego con sus cabellos, y la casa se llenó de la fragancia del perfume”

Este pasaje nos acerca a la generosidad. María tomó tiempo para agradecer a Jesús dando lo mejor, algo muy valioso para ella, Martha sirvió y Lázaro compartió la mesa. Cada uno dispuso de sí mismo, de lo que tenía para dar.Nada de lo que tenemos en nuestras vidas nos hace mejores, ni superiores.  La invitación permanente es a compartir lo que tenemos, a no aferrarnos a las cosas materiales y colocar lo verdaderamente importante en función de lo que es gratificante para nuestras vidas. Hay muchas maneras de agradecer, no dar lo que nos sobra, más sí compartiendo en comunidad, donde todo lo que se da tiene valor e importa para Jesús.¿Qué pudiéramos darle hoy a Jesús que muestre nuestra gratitud? La casa llena de perfume es símbolo de la presencia de Jesús que transforma y restaura todo. Que esta Cuaresma pueda tener tu mejor perfume.

Oración: Dios de la vida, que podamos vivir una fe encarnada, generosa y comunitaria. Que siempre te podamos agradecer. Amén.
