The Extended Hand of Mercy

Luke 5:12-16

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.

Luke 5:13 (NIV)

Jesus encounters a man afflicted with leprosy. Marginalized and ostracized, this man approaches him with humility and faith saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus’ response is deeply moving: “I am willing; be cleansed.”

This passage reveals the essence of Christ’s ministry: a love that does not fear to approach human suffering. Leprosy symbolized not only disease but also social and spiritual rejection. Jesus breaks down the barriers of fear and exclusion, showing that God’s grace is manifested in compassion and closeness.

As disciples, we are called to imitate this twofold dimension by extending a hand to those in need and seeking intimacy with God. The true mission of the church is sustained by mercy and prayer.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your compassion that touches and cleanses us. Teach us to approach the marginalized with your love and to always seek your presence in prayer. Make us instruments of your mercy and witnesses of your grace in the world. Amen.

La Mano Extendida de la Misericordia

Lucas 5, 12-16

 Entonces, extendiendo él la mano, le tocó, diciendo: Quiero; sé limpio. Y al instante la lepra se fue de él.

Lucas 5,13

Jesús se encuentra con un hombre lleno de lepra. Marginado y excluido, este hombre se acerca con humildad y fe: “Señor, si quieres, puedes limpiarme”. La respuesta de Jesús es conmovedora: “Quiero, sé limpio”.

Este pasaje revela la esencia del ministerio de Cristo: un amor que no teme acercarse a la miseria humana. La lepra simbolizaba no sólo enfermedad, sino también rechazo social y espiritual. Jesús rompe las barreras del miedo y la exclusión, mostrando que la gracia de Dios se manifiesta en compasión y cercanía.

Como discípulos, estamos llamados a imitar esta doble dimensión: extender la mano al necesitado y buscar la intimidad con Dios. La verdadera misión de la iglesia se sostiene en la misericordia y en la oración.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias por tu compasión que nos toca y nos limpia. Enséñanos a acercarnos a los marginados con tu amor y a buscar siempre tu presencia en oración. Haznos instrumentos de tu misericordia y testigos de tu gracia en el mundo. Amén.

Anniversary of the Church in Taguasco

The Spirit Who Sends Us

Luke 4:14-22

Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

 Luke 4:21 (NRSV)

This moment marks the public beginning of Jesus’ ministry and reveals the mission that defines his entire journey: to bring complete salvation. Jesus does not only pronounce words of hope; rather he incarnates the good news in concrete acts of healing, freeing, and justice.

As the Church, we are reminded by this text that our mission is not distinct; we are called to live in the power of the Spirit, delivering consolation to the poor, accompanying those who suffer and proclaiming freedom in Christ. The gospel is not limited to the spiritual; it touches all the dimensions of life, restoring what is broken and giving hope where despair reigns.

Today, the challenge is to ask ourselves how we are acting as instruments of the Spirit in our environment? Where can we proclaim and incarnate the good news of the Kingdom?

Prayer: Lord, thank you that your Spirit enables us to proclaim your reign. Make us aware of the needs of the poor, the captives, and the oppressed. May our lives reflect your mission, and may we be faithful witnesses to your grace in the world. Amen.

Aniversario de la Iglesia en Taguasco

El Espíritu que Nos Envía

Lucas 4,14-22

Y comenzó a decirles: Hoy se ha cumplido esta Escritura delante de vosotros.

 Lucas 4, 21

Este momento Jesús marca el inicio público de su ministerio y revela la misión que define todo su caminar: traer salvación integral. Jesús no sólo anuncia palabras de esperanza, sino que encarna la buena noticia en acciones concretas de sanidad, liberación y justicia.

Como iglesia, este texto nos recuerda que nuestra misión no es distinta: somos llamados a vivir en el poder del Espíritu, llevando consuelo a los pobres, acompañando a los que sufren y proclamando libertad en Cristo. El evangelio no se limita a lo espiritual; toca todas las dimensiones de la vida, restaurando lo que está roto y dando esperanza donde reina la desesperanza.

Hoy, el desafío es preguntarnos: ¿cómo estamos siendo instrumentos del Espíritu en nuestro entorno? ¿Dónde podemos anunciar y encarnar la buena noticia del Reino?

Oración: Señor, gracias porque tu Espíritu nos capacita para anunciar tu Reino. Haznos sensibles a las necesidades de los pobres, los cautivos y los oprimidos. Que nuestra vida refleje tu misión y que seamos fieles testigos de tu gracia en el mundo. Amén

Christ in the Midst of the Storm

Mark 6:45-52

Then he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded,

Mark 6:51(NRSV)

In the middle of the night the disciples struggled against a strong wind. Jesus, seeing their difficulty, came near and said to them, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” As he boarded the boat the wind calmed and they were amazed.

The Christian life is not exempt from storms. The disciples, obeying Jesus, found themselves in the midst of difficulties. And likewise we, when faithfully following the Lord, confront trials and contrary winds in everyday life When we deal with so many stressful situations around us we find ourselves bailing water from our boat because we believe we are sinking.

Jesus doesn’t abandon us. He sees our struggles, draws near in the midst of the darkness and gives our hearts peace. The miracle shows not only his power over nature, but also his consoling presence. True security is not in having no storms, but in that Jesus is with us. When we recognize his voice and his presence, fear is transformed into faith.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for being in the midst of our storms, you come to meet us. Calm our fears and strengthen our faith.

ENERO 7, Miércoles

Cristo en Medio de la Tormenta

Marcos 6, 45-52

Y subió a ellos en la barca, y se calmó el viento; y ellos se asombraron en gran manera, y se maravillaban.

Marcos 6, 51

En medio de la noche, los discípulos luchan contra un viento fuerte. Jesús, viendo su dificultad, se acerca y les dice: “¡Ánimo! Soy yo, no temáis”. Al subir a la barca, el viento se calma y ellos quedan asombrados.

La vida cristiana no está exenta de tormentas. Los discípulos, obedeciendo a Jesús, se encontraron en medio de dificultades. Así también nosotros, aun siguiendo fielmente al Señor, enfrentamos pruebas y vientos contrarios, y nos encontramos muchas veces sacando agua de nuestra barca que creemos se nos hunde, en el diario vivir, cuando lidiamos con tantas situaciones desgastantes a nuestro alrededor.

Jesús no nos abandona. Él ve nuestra lucha, se acerca en medio de la oscuridad y trae paz a nuestro corazón. El milagro no sólo muestra su poder sobre la naturaleza, sino también su presencia consoladora. La verdadera seguridad no está en que no haya tormentas, sino en que Jesús está con nosotros. Cuando reconocemos su voz y su presencia, el miedo se transforma en confianza.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias porque en medio de nuestras tormentas Tú vienes a nuestro encuentro. Calma nuestros temores y fortalece nuestra fe. Amén.

The Bread That Feeds Multitudes

Mark   6:4-44

And he said to them, “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” When they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”

Mark 6:38 (NRSV)

The text says that on seeing them, “he had compassion for they were like sheep without a shepherd.” His response was not one of indifference but of teaching and care. As evening fell, the disciples suggested that he disperse the crowd to find something to eat, but Jesus challenged them, “You give them something to eat.” The teaching is clear: when we confront needs, we should not look at the scarcity, but at the Lord who multiplies. Jesus takes the little we have and converts it into abundance to bless the many, touching hearts, because no matter how little we have, it is sufficient for the one who has nothing. Sharing what we have today is a miracle and it is also God’s invitation. The Church is called to trust in his word and to share with generosity, knowing that in his hands, nothing is insufficient.

Today, let’s remember that Jesus is the bread of life that satisfies our deepest hunger and invites us to be instruments of his compassion.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, that your compassion reaches us, touches us, and that you are able to multiply the little we have. Make us witnesses of your abundance reflecting your love in the midst of need. Amen.

El Pan que Sacia Multitudes

Marcos 6, 34-44

Él les dijo: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id y vedlo. Y al saberlo, dijeron: Cinco, y dos peces.

Marcos 6, 38

El texto dice que al verlos “tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas que no tenían pastor”. Su respuesta no fue indiferencia, sino enseñanza y cuidado. Al caer la tarde, los discípulos sugieren despedir a la gente para que busquen alimento, pero Jesús les desafía: “Dadles vosotros de comer”.La enseñanza para nosotros es clara: cuando enfrentamos necesidades, no debemos mirar la escasez, sino al Señor que multiplica. Jesús toma lo poco que tenemos y lo convierte en abundancia para bendecir a muchos, tocando los corazones, porque lo que poco que tenemos algunos, es mucho, es suficiente para el que no tiene nada, el compartir con otros lo que tenemos hoy en día es un milagro, y es también la invitación de Dios. La iglesia está llamada a confiar en su palabra y a compartir con generosidad, sabiendo que en sus manos nada es insuficiente.

Hoy, recordemos que Jesús es el pan de vida que sacia nuestra hambre más profunda y nos invita a ser instrumentos de su compasión.

Oración: Señor Jesús, gracias porque tu compasión nos alcanza, nos toca y tu poder multiplicar lo poco que tenemos. Enséñanos a confiar en tu provisión y a compartir con generosidad. Haznos testigos de tu abundancia y reflejo de tu amor en medio de la necesidad. Amén.
