Monday, June 8

WE ARE NOT ALONE

JOHN 14:15-26

I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.

John 14:18 (NRSV)

            What anguish! How will we continue in the future? What will we do when the Master is no longer among us? Where will we get strength and support?

            Faced with the announcement of Jesus’ departure, his disciples felt a great emptiness, insecurity and fear. How many times have we not also felt the same way in our lives? The loss of anyone who is important to us yields sadness and a sense of emptiness. How much more difficult Jesus’ departure must have been for the disciples!  He who had called them to follow him, who had done so many miracles, who taught with such authority, who was God’s envoy. Did he have to die?

            When we realize that in order to face the problems and the different situations that life has in store for us: at work, in the neighborhood, in the family. . .  our strength and our capacity are not as much as we had imagined, and we are flooded with fear and anguish. So too it is when we realize  how small we are to face such huge problems. The lack of perspective in general creates situations of anguish that at times are difficult to overcome. Let’s receive all the safety and confidence that comes through this promise from Jesus. He will not leave us orphans.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being with me at every moment; don’t ever desert me. Amen.

NO ESTAMOS SOLOS

JUAN 14:15-26

Jesús dijo: No os dejaré huérfanos; volveré a vosotros.

Juan 14:18

            ¡Qué angustia! ¿Cómo vamos a seguir en el futuro? ¿Qué vamos a hacer cuando el Maestro ya no esté entre nosotros? ¿De dónde vamos a sacar fuerzas y apoyo?

            Ante el anuncio de la partida de Jesús, sus discípulos sintieron un gran vacío, inseguridad y miedo. ¿Cuántas veces no lo hemos sentido también en nuestras vidas? La partida de alguien  que es importante en nuestras vidas nos produce dolor y sensación de vacío. ¡Cuánto más difícil habrá sido para los discípulos la partida de Jesús! Aquel que los había llamado a seguirlo, que había hecho tantas maravillas, que enseñaba con tanta autoridad, como el enviado de Dios. ¿Tenía que morir?

            Cuando nos damos cuenta de que para afrontar los problemas y  las diferentes situaciones que nos depara la vida: en el trabajo, en el barrio, en la familia... nuestras fuerzas y nuestra capacidad no son tantas como habíamos imaginado, nos inunda el miedo y la angustia. Así también, cuando constatamos que somos pocos  para afrontar problemas tan grandes. La falta de perspectivas en general genera situaciones de angustia que a veces es muy difícil  sobrellevar.  Recibamos toda la seguridad y confianza que emana de esta promesa de Jesús. Él no nos dejará huérfanos.

Oración:  Señor, gracias por estar conmigo en todo momento y no desampararme jamás. Amén.

TRINITY SUNDAY

JOHN 14:9-17

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,

 will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.

John 14:26 (NRSV)

            From the very beginning of the Christian Church, which emerged in the heart of Judaism, it had to develop its theology to explain the relationship of Jesus to the Father. But at the same time it had to explain what was being experienced through the action of the Spirit in those communities which were evangelized and had no prior knowledge of the biblical God nor of Jesus Christ.

            This gospel text outlines some of the teachings intended for those faith communities. God, who is revered and worshiped as One, is a God with plural lives (in fact, the Hebrew noun for God–Elohim–is plural.)

            Affirming the uniqueness of God in the midst of God’s diversity as triune God should be one of the most important doctrines to defend today in the midst of the individualization of modern society. God invites us to live together in perfect intimacy, without hierarchical distinctions, without discrimination, but each one contributing his or her gifts and striving to raise up the weakest. Therein lies a great part of the testimony.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you that your infinite essence has left us an important definition as God who is LOVE, in a harmonious relationship. Help us to behave in the same way. Amen.

Domingo de la Trinidad

JUAN 14: 9-17

El Espíritu Santo, a quien el padre enviará en mi nombre,

los consolará y les enseñará todas las cosas.

            Desde los primeros momentos la iglesia cristiana, surgida en el seno del judaísmo, tuvo que ir elaborando su pensamiento teológico para explicar la relación de Jesús con el Padre. Pero a su vez necesitaba explicitar lo que se estaba viviendo bajo la acción del Espíritu, en aquellas comunidades que eran evangelizadas y no tenían conocimiento previo del Dios bíblico ni de Jesucristo.

            Este texto del evangelio nos esboza algunas de esa enseñanzas que se deseaban transmitir a las comunidades de fe. Dios, a quien se le reverencia y adora como Uno, es un Dios en pluralidad de vidas (de hecho el sustantivo hebreo para hablar de Dios -Elohim- está en plural).

Afirmar la unicidad de Dios en medio de su diversidad como Dios trino debe ser una de las doctrinas más importantes a defender hoy en medio de la individualización de la sociedad moderna. Dios nos invita a convivir en perfecta interpenetración, sin distinciones jerárquicas, sin discriminaciones, sino cada quien aportando sus dones y esforzándose por levantar al más débil. Ahí radica gran parte del testimonio.

Oración: Gracias, Señor, porque tu esencia infinita nos ha dejado una importante definicióón como Dios que es AMOR, en una relación armoniosa. Ayúdanos a comportarnos de igual manera. Amén.
