GIVE, GIVE

Mark 12:41-44

…” I assure you that this poor widow has put in more than everyone…”

Mark 12:43 (CEB)

In today’s passage, our Lord gives an important reason for giving a little, if that little is all we can give. His comment about the widow’s gift shows us that a couple of copper coins are of great value, even when nothing is added to it.

Compared to the offerings around her, the widow and her gift seemed nothing. Instead, Jesus took advantage of this occasion to remind His disciples that the actual value of an offering is measured not only by the quantity, but by the underlying reason and sacrifice. Thus, a person who has few possessions can actually contribute more than someone who gives a lot for the wrong reasons.

Could it be that pride or feeling of how little you can give has prevented you from giving in the name of Jesus? Remember, a sacrificial offering is worth more to God than great gifts that draw attention to the offering or that seeks to impress others. But to God, your little means much.

Prayer: Help us Lord, may we give sacrificially. Amen

DAR, DAR

Marcos 12:41-44

aseguro que esta viuda ha dado más…

Marcos 13:43

WHAT HUMILITY REAPS

Philippians 2:1-3

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humilty. regard others as better than yourselves.

Phillipians 2:3(NRSV)

2020 brought the sad news of the loss of 97 year old Rosita Fornés, the most emblematic, iconic, versatile and integral person in our cultural history. The gigantic coverage in all the media was well deserved.  What was her secret? In all the interviews conducted, two aspects of her personality stood out:  humility and not judging others.  I remember an invitation from the Seventh Day Adventists extended to me in the 90s, to enjoy a Christmas concert at the Viper. To my amazement she was in the front row with her family. At the end the whole congregation came to greet her with great affection.

This attitude toward others and toward oneself is what, according to the Bible, allows us to approach the Triune God in all His magnitude. Every time we carry out a project or action for the benefit of others the Lord is born anew, paraphrasing the hymn. However, we already know some of the ingredients that give the required flavor. Let us put into practice all the reserves of humility and towards our neighbor.

Prayer: Our Father, always call our attention to serve you with all humility and respect for others. In His name,

LO QUE COSECHA LA HUMILDAD

Filipenses 2:1-3

WHERE IS PEACE?

Philippians 4:4-9

“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7 (NIV)

I remember the first Workshop on Theological Studies and Spirituality I attended, organized by a non-govermental center. On the last day, a Brazilian theologian took us to Lenin Park at an elevation where the sound of nature predominated. Through a relaxation exercise, he gradually led us to an ecstasy of peace to such a degree that we burst in to hugs and tears of joy.  Years later, I met many of the atheists of that time who were attending churches because they decided to seek that Peace.

I have seen documentaries of people who go to different parts of the world seeking peace by taking courses, meditation and following various rites. All this is transitory because when facing true reality they feel alone. Certainly God’s peace is unique and unthinkable that it be gotten in a pharmacy, hospital or for the largest amount of money in the world. The one who gives it free is the Son of God when we open or hearts so he may dwell through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:  God of Peace who gave peace to us freely when we decided to give ourselves to You, thank you for the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep giving us that peace that all humanity longs for. In His name. Amen

¿DONDE ESTA LA PAZ?

Filipenses 4:4-9
