THE LORD HAS RISEN!

John 20:1-9

For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

John. 20:9 (NRSV)

In the early morning on the first day of the week, Sunday, was when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. This woman from whom Jesus had cast out seven demons was the last one at the cross and the first at the tomb. When she reached the grave, she was stunned and terrified. Ancient tombs used to have no doors. At the entrance there was a channel in the ground through which a circular stone, like a mill stone, was rolled to close the entrance. Mary was perplexed to see that the stone was not in place.

Peter and John were also perplexed not to see the lord’s body. Why didn’t they believe in the event of the resurrection? Because the disciples had not understood Scripture. They believed because of what they saw in the tomb, not because of what they knew about the resurrection. Jesus had prophesied his death and resurrection in the presence of his disciples, but they did not understand what He was talking about.

Today is Easter Sunday. Christ lives! And his resurrection is the greatest act of love the Lord can give us today.

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for your glorious resurrection, and because you were resurrected your sons and daughters today have the same hope of resurrection. Our God: Allow us to always be willing to scrutinize the scriptures to get to know you fully. Amen.

¡EL SEÑOR RESUCITÓ!

Juan 20:1-9

BRAVE IN CHRIST

John 19:38-42

Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus by night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.

John. 19:38-39(NIV)

Jesus’ disciples were poor, and they would not have been able to give him a dignified burial. Joseph of Arimathea was an important man and member of the Sanhedrin, and until then had kept secret that he was a disciple of Jesus for fear of consequences. And the other was Nicodemus, who was also a member of the council and visited Jesus at night for fear of being seen. Nicodemus brought enough spices for a king’s burial. So, Joseph gave the tomb to Jesus and Nicodemus gave him the clothes and perfumes to cover him in the grave.

We all leave tributes when someone has died. A flower in life is worth more than all the wreaths of flowers after the person died; a word of affection or appreciation or gratitude in life is worth more than all the flowers in the world when life is over. Jesus’ death prompted Joseph and Nicodemus to do what they had not done before. The cowardice, the hesitation, the prudent reserve was over. They had been afraid when Jesus was alive, but they declared themselves for Him in a way that everyone could see when He died. The power of the Cross was already transforming cowards into heroes and hesitants into people who irrevocably decided on Christ.

Prayer: Lord, show us how to be courageous to proclaim the truths of your kingdom. Amen.

VALIENTES EN CRISTO

Juan 19:38-42

HOLY FRIDAY

Hebrews 4,14-16

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we do have one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrewas 4:15(NRSV)

Jesus is the perfect High Priest. His mission is to bring to human beings the Word of God, and to introduce them into the divine presence. Jesus fully identified with humanity. He went through absolutely everything a man must go through, and he is like us in everything except that he passed all the trials without contaminating himself with sin.

God shares and assumes human pain. God understands the human being. And there is no human experience about which God cannot say, “I have been there.” When we have something sad to tell, when life has cut us to the bone with its tears, we do not turn to a god who is unable to understand what has happened to us, but we turn to a God who has been there. Jesus knows our problems because He has gone through them; that’s why he understands us, helps, and forgives us.

Jesus is the perfect High Priest because he is perfectly God and perfectly man. Because he has lived our lives, he can give us sympathy, mercy, and power. He brought God to humans, and He can bring humans to God.

Prayer: O Lord, thank you for your love for us, because no one can understand our humanity better than You. Let us always remember your sacrifice on the cross for our sins. Amen

VIERNES SANTO.

Hebreos 4,14-16

HUMBLE IN EVERY SITUATION

John 13: 1-15

So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

John 13:14 (NRSV)

When we think about what Jesus might have come to be and what He might have come to do, we should better realize the wonder of what He was and what He did.

Jesus knew that He held everything in His hands. He knew that the hour of His humiliation was near, but He also knew that His hour of exaltation was near. Such knowledge could have filled Him with pride and yet knowing that power and glory were His, He washed the feet of His disciples. In the moment when He could have felt supreme pride, He sets an example of supreme humility. That’s the way love always is. When someone becomes ill, the person who loves him will give the humblest services to Him and delight in him or her. Some people think they’re too important to do humble things. Jesus wasn’t like that. He knew He was the Lord of everything, and He washed His disciples’ feet.

Jesus’ attitude is a sign of love in service, of personal sacrifice. The person who is willing to serve will be fully blessed.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for being an example of humility, love, and sacrifice to us. Oh God, let our lives be always willing to serve and not to be served. Amen.

HUMILDES ANTE TODA SITUACIÓN.

Juan 13: 1-15
