PERSISTENT PRAYERS

Luke 11:1-8

. . . even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.

            Christians talk and write a lot about prayer. It would be better if, as the disciples did, we were to watch and learn how others pray. Jesus had no problem with his disciples watching him pray. It must have been the way Jesus prayed that caused a disciple to ask him to teach them to pray.

            Jesus responded by teaching them to pray what today is known as “The Lord’s Prayer.” However, we must be assured that Jesus did not limit himself to these brief petitions. Prayer is an integral part of our relationship with God. Jesus clarified that with an illustration of a dialog between friends. In that light, we ought to pray to our Father as if we were close to a friend. The audacity of friends is based in the depth of their love, and we must trust that our heavenly Father is closer than a friend. If we are in need and approach our earthly fathers, we know that they are going to respond to the best of their ability. So also, our heavenly Father will give us what we need, and even much more. First of all, God provides for our needs, not our desires, and we must trust that that is so. In that way we ought to be audacious and persistent when we speak with our heavenly Father.

 

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the example and teaching of Jesus Christ. Allow us to grow more, knowing that you care for all our needs and worries. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

ORACIONES PERSISTENTES

Lucas 11:1-8

Aunque no se levante a darte algo por ser su amigo, lo hará por su impertinencia, y le dará todo lo que necesita.

            Los cristianos hablan y escriben mucho acerca de la oración. Sería mejor, al igual que los discípulos, que miráramos y aprendiéramos cómo otros oran. Jesús no tenía ningún problema de que sus discípulos lo miraran orar. Debe haber sido la forma en que Jesús oró lo que hizo que un discípulo le pidiera que les enseñara a orar.

            Jesús respondió enseñándoles a orar lo que hoy se conoce como “El Padre Nuestro” Pero podemos estar seguros de que Jesús no se limitó a estas breves peticiones. La oración es una parte integral de nuestra relación con Dios. Jesús lo clarificó al añadir una ilustración con un diálogo entre amigos. A la luz de esto, debemos orar a nuestro Padre como si nos acercáramos a un amigo. La audacia de un amigo se basa en la profundidad de la amistad, y podemos confiar en que nuestro Padre celestial es más cercano que un amigo. Si tenemos una necesidad y nos acercamos a nuestros padres terrenales, sabemos que van a responder con lo que son capaces. Así también nuestro Padre celestial nos dará lo que necesitamos, y, a menudo, mucho más. Principalmente, Dios proveerá nuestras necesidades, no nuestros deseos; y podemos estar confiados de eso. Así que deberíamos ser audaces y persistentes cuando hablamos con nuestro Padre celestial.

 

Oración: Padre, gracias por el ejemplo y la enseñanza de Jesucristo. Permite que crezcamos más, sabiendo que cuidas de todas nuestras necesidades y preocupaciones. En el nombre de Jesús, amén.
