DISTRACTED FOLLOWERS

Luke 10: 38-42

But Martha . . . asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.”

            Sunday, a day of worship for Christians, is a good day to think about our priorities. Whenever possible, the followers of Jesus meet to think about God who was revealed in his Son, Jesus Christ. It is necessary in a world filled with distractions, and it is vital that we praise God and listen to his Word.

            Today’s passage speaks of Mary and Martha. Imagine the scene. Jesus is in the room teaching about the truths of the Kingdom, explaining what God asks in our way of life. The disciples ask questions, and Mary is seated listening attentively. Meanwhile, Martha has been preparing a grand meal. Alone! She is exhausted. She is about to burst! Complaining, she asks Jesus, “Don’t you care?!” Jesus surprises us with his response. He acknowledges Martha’s worries and her anger, but instead of agreeing with her, he honors Mary’s choice to listen to the Lord’s words. Mary has chosen the best, and Jesus promises that it will serve her well.

            Each week, we must choose what is the best for us. Distractions abound, but the followers of Jesus who allow themselves to be distracted in the worship of God are losing something essential.

 

Prayer: Lord, teach us to prioritize our time, making certain that we meet with believers to worship and hear your Word. Amen.

SEGUIDORES DISTRAIDOS.

Lucas 10: 38-42

Pero Marta…dijo: Señor, ¿no te preocupa nada que mi hermana me deje sola con todo el trabajo?

Lc. 10:40

            El domingo, el díía de adoración para los cristianos, es un buen día para pensar en nuestras prioridades. Siempre que sea posible, los seguidores de Jesús se reunían para pensar en Dios, quien fue revelado en su Hijo, Jesucristo. Es una necesidad en un mundo lleno de distracciones y es vital que alabemos a Dios y escuchemos su Palabra.

            Nuestro pasaje de hoy habla de María y Marta. Imagínense la escena. Jesús está en la sala, enseñando acerca de las verdades del reino, explicando lo que Dios pide en nuestra manera de vivir. Los discípulos hacen preguntas, y María está sentada escuchando atentamente. Mientras tanto, Marta ha estado preparando una buena comida, ¡Sola! Está agotada. ¡Está a punto de estallar! Lamentándose, Marta se queja a Jesús: “¿No te preocupa…? Jesús nos sorprende con su respuesta. El reconoce las preocupaciones de Marta y su enojo, pero, en vez de ponerse de acuerdo con ella, honra la elección de María de escuchar las palabras del Señor. María ha escogido lo mejor y Jesús promete que le servirá bien.

            Cada semana, tenemos que escoger que es lo mejor para nosotros. Abundan distracciones, pero los seguidores de Jesús que se distraen en la adoración a Dios, están perdiendo algo esencial.

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a priorizar nuestro tiempo, asegurándonos que nos reunimos con creyentes para adorarte y escuchar Tu Palabra. Amén.
