THE VALUE OF SUFFERING

1 PETER 4:12-19

“but rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ…”

1 Peter 4:13

A certain pastor told a woman in his congregation that he was undergoing a period of testing:  “Take a look at these two precious stones.  They are identical in size, purity and quality.  But look closely, because one is more brilliant than the other.  The less brilliant one has been polished only eight times, whereas the more brilliant one has been polished eighty times. The stone with the greater suffering possesses the greater brilliance; the other one lacks brilliance."

 

Suffering can sink a life into despair, but afterwards it can elevate it unto the rock of faith.

 

Suffering is a marvelous school where we learn the most useful lessons for life.  It is in that school that our will is refined and our spirit is tempered for arduous tasks ahead. It is in the midst of suffering that we recognize the active and healing presence of God in our lives.  Let us hope in him with patience and our Lord will work his will.  

 

Prayer: Lord, we ask you for strength and help to convert adversity into an opportunity for our spiritual growth.

 

EL VALOR DEL SUFRIMIENTO

1 PEDRO 4:12-19

“sino gozaos por cuanto sois participantes

de los padecimientos de Cristo…”

1 Pedro 4:13

Cierto pastor le dijo a una señora de su congregación que pasaba por momentos de prueba: “Mire está dos piedras preciosas. Son idénticas en tamaño, pureza y calidad. Pero fíjese, pues una brilla más intensamente que la otra. La que brilla menos ha sido esmerilada solo ocho veces, mientras que la que más brilla lo ha sido ochenta veces. La piedra que más ha sufrido posee mayor brillo; la otra carece de refulgencia”

El sufrimiento puede hundir una vida en la desesperación, pero después puede elevarla sobre la roca de la fe.

El sufrimiento es una maravillosa escuela donde aprendemos las más provechosas lecciones de la vida. En esa escuela es que se acera  nuestra voluntad y se templa el espíritu para las arduas tareas. Es en medio del sufrimiento cuando más reconocemos la acción curativa y acompañante de Dios en nuestras vidas. Esperemos en él con paciencia y nuestro Señor obrará.

Oración: Señor, ante la adversidad te pedimos fortaleza y ayuda para convertir lo adverso en favorable en nuestro crecimiento espiritual. Amén.

GOD’S WISDOM IN ORDER TO ADMINISTER JUDGMENT

1 KINGS 3:16-28

“…because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.”

1 Kings 3:28

Oftentimes the impotence of feeling that we lack the courage to confront the problems facing us, trying to clarify the doubts or comments that arise, causes us TO act arrogantly and to take matters into our own hands. When we act in this manner, we don’t analyze the possible consequences of our actions, whether to others or even to our own church and its congregation. In other words, we act without wisdom, impulsively, not even consulting with God or placing the matter in prayer before Him.

 

The text we have chosen for today’s meditation tells us:  “and they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.”  When the time comes for us to administer justice, let us recall Solomon and act with wisdom, all those who are involved with a judgment to be made, or with how the matter will be handled. God has given us the necessary wisdom in order to use it with humility, simplicity and love.  Let us learn to act justly, so that we can thereby demonstrate that God has given us wisdom.

 

 

 

Prayer: Fill us, Lord, with your immense wisdom. Amen.

 

 

SABIDURÍA DE DIOS PARA JUZGAR

1 DE REYES 3:16-28

“… porque vieron que había en él

sabiduría de Dios para juzgar”

1ra de Reyes 3:28

Muchas veces la impotencia de sentirnos con suficiente valor para enfrentar los problemas que se nos plantean, tratando de aclarar las dudas o comentarios que han dado lugar a que este haya surgido, nos hace actuar con prepotencia y hacer justicia por nuestra cuenta. Cuando así actuamos, no analizamos las causas que esto pueda traer, ya sea a personas o incluso a nuestra propia iglesia y con ello a la congregación; en unas palabras, actuamos sin sabiduría, por impulsos, ignorando inclusive el consultar con Dios y poner el asunto en oración delante de Él.

Nos dice la lectura que hemos tomado para esta reflexión: “y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar”. A la hora de hacer justicia, acordémonos de Salomón y actuemos con sabiduría, todos los que tengan que ver con el juicio que se va a hacer, con la medida que se va a tomar.

Dios nos ha dado la  sabiduría necesaria para usarla con humildad, sencillez y amor. Aprendamos a actuar con justicia, para que así demos muestra de que Dios ha dado sabiduría.

 

Oración: Cólmanos Señor, de tu inmensa sabiduría. Amén.

PSALM 95: 8-11

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts...”

Psalm 95: 7-8

 

If we knew how to listen to God…

If we knew how to listen to God, we would hear His Voice.  Because God speaks to us.  He has spoken in his Gospel.  And he continues to speak today in our lives, through this fifth Gospel, which we are writing page by page each day.

 

Everything in life would speak to us about Him…

If we knew how to contemplate life with God’s eyes, everything in life would become a sign;

we would run into constant signs of the love of a Creator who begs for the love of his creatures.

 

The Father has placed us in the world. Not in order to live in it with our eyes half-awake, but rather to go in search of his footprints in things, in events, in people.  Everything should speak to us about God.

 

We don’t need to recite long prayers in order to smile at Christ over the smallest details of our lives each day.

 

All of life would be a prayer…

If we knew how to listen to God, if we knew how to contemplate life, all of life would turn into a prayer.

 

Because everything in life happens under God’s watchful eye and we should not live a single moment without offering it up to Him.

Prayer: Your Word is eternal, oh God.  Tune our ears so that we can hear your voice and perceive it in each slice of life.  Grant that our lives be a constant communication with you!

 

 

 

Si supiéramos escuchar a Dios

SALMO 95: 8-11

Si oís su voz, «No endurezcáis vuestro corazón...»

Si supiéramos escuchar a Dios…

Si supiéramos escuchar a  Dios oiríamos Su Voz. Porque Dios nos habla. Ha hablado en su Evangelio. Y habla todavía hoy en la vida, este quinto Evangelio, que página  a página vamos escribiendo nosotros todos los días.

Toda la vida nos hablaría de Él…

Si supiéramos contemplar la vida con los ojos de Dios, todo en la vida se nos convertiría en signo, nos tropezaríamos con continuos detalles del amor de un Creador que mendiga el amor de su criatura.

El Padre nos ha puesto en el mundo. Pero no para vivir en él con los ojos adormilados, sino para ir buscando sus huellas en las cosas, en los acontecimientos, en la gente. Todo nos debe hablar de Dios.

No se nos exigen largas oraciones para ir sonriendo a Cristo desde los más pequeños detalles de nuestra vida de cada día

 Toda la vida sería una oración…

Si supiéramos escuchar a Dios, si supiéramos contemplar la vida, toda la vida se nos convertiría en oración

Porque toda la vida se desarrolla  bajo la mirada de Dios y no deberíamos vivir un solo suceso sin ofrecérselo.

I WILL SEND YOU MY MESSENGER

 

MARK 1:1-8

 

“I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way.”

Mark 1:2

 

Whenever I make a change of any sort, I prepare the way ahead of time by sending good, positive and hopeful thoughts.

 

If I am just starting out on a new job or service project, I give thanks because the presence of God precedes me, because the way has been prepared for me to easily follow, because there is already an open path for completion and success before me.  

 

If I move to a new house, I prepare the way by blessing the move, knowing that my true home is in God, that He goes before me and blesses the thresholds of my home and brings his peace to each corner, to every room. 

 

If I go to new and unknown places I prepare the way by my affirmation and giving thanks because God goes ahead of me.  And even in my regular and familiar daily routines, I maintain a sense of serenity and equilibrium when I place God before me to guide, govern, bless and protect.

 

 

Prayer: We place our daily lives before you in prayer, Lord, seeking your blessing.  Amen.

 

YO ENVÍO MI MENSAJERO

 

MARCOS 1:1-8

 

“He aquí yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz”

Marcos 1:2

 

Al hacer un cambio de cualquier clase preparo el camino de antemano enviando buenos, positivos y expectantes pensamientos.

Si estoy iniciándome en algún campo de trabajo o servicio, doy gracias porque la presencia de Dios va delante de mí, porque ya el camino está preparado para mi fácil orientación, porque ya hay abierta una senda de realización y éxito delante de mí.

Si me mudo a una nueva casa, preparo el camino bendiciendo la mudanza, sabiendo que mi verdadero hogar está en Dios, que Él va delante de mí y bendice los portales de mi hogar y trae su paz a cada esquina, a cada habitación.

Si voy a nuevos y desconocidos lugares preparo el camino afirmando y dando gracias porque Dios va delante de mí. Y hasta en lo regular y en la familiar rutina de cada día me sostengo sereno y equilibrado, cuando pongo a Dios delante de mí para guiar, gobernar, bendecir y proteger.

 

Oración: Ponemos Señor, nuestra vida diaria en oración, buscando tu bendición. Amén.

1 CORINTHIANS 12:13-14

 

“For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body…”

1 Corinthians 12:13

 

There is an Indian belief that each of us is a house with four rooms: the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual. We usually spend most of the time in only one of them; but if don’t visit all of them, if only just to ventilate them, we are lacking something. Our body, according to God’s Word, is made up of different members.  Each one has its importance, even the one which seems most insignificant to us.  For the body to function well there must be harmony and unity among all of its parts.

 

Let us remember that this body is God’s Temple, and that in the union of all men and women with Christ, each one doing one’s part, we will become part of one whole, of Him.

 

Prayer: Lord, we pray for the union of your Church.  Help us to get rid of everything that divides or separates us. Grant that we may all be one so that the world will believe.  Amen.

UN TODO EN CRISTO

 

1 CORINTIOS 12:13-14

 

“Porque por un solo Espíritu fuimos 

todos bautizados en un cuerpo…”

1 Corintios 12:13

 

Existe una creencia india según la cual cada uno de nosotros es una casa de cuatro habitaciones: la física, la mental, la emocional y la espiritual.

Solemos pasar la mayor parte del tiempo en una sola de ellas; pero si no las visitamos todas, aunque sea para ventilarlas, algo nos falta.

Nuestro cuerpo,  según la Palabra de Dios, se compone de distintos miembros. Cada cual tiene su importancia, aun el que nos parezca más insignificante. Para que el cuerpo funcione bien, debe haber armonía y unidad entre todas sus partes.

Recordemos que este cuerpo es Templo de Dios, y que en la unión de todos y todas con Cristo, cada cual haciendo su parte, logramos ser parte de un todo, de Él.

 

Oración: Señor, te pedimos por la unión de tu Iglesia. Ayúdanos a desechar todo lo que nos divida o separe. Permite que todo seamos uno para que el mundo crea. Amén.

SET YOUR OWN EXAMPLE FOR THEM

 

 

TITUS 2:6-8

 

“In everything set them an example by doing what is good”

Titus 2:7

 

These words by Paul to Titus seem to be made for those who in today’s world, within our Churches, devote themselves to giving advice without first advising themselves.

 

Without a doubt, we are called to advise our youth, to guide them along good paths, to teach them that their first duty and their first task are to love God and to serve Him unconditionally. But we first need to ask ourselves if we are suited to be the ones giving those pieces of advice and secondly, if we practice what Jesus taught by his example.

 

We need to remember that we are not deceiving anyone other than God with our actions, because many of those who surround us know us. If we say that we truly believe in God, then let us do what He commands, because He will be our supreme judge.  

 

Prayer: Lord, we pray for those who erroneously counsel others without first looking at their own defects.  Grant that our testimony be light and guidance for those who surround us! Amen.

 

 

DALES TU MISMO EJEMPLO

 

 

TITO 2:6-8

 

“presentándote tú en todo como  ejemplo de buenas obras”

Tito 2:7

 

Estas palabras de Pablo a Tito parecen estar hechas para aquellos que hoy en día, dentro  de nuestras Iglesias, se dedican a estar dando consejos sin que primero se aconsejen ellos mismos.

Estamos, sin discusión alguna, llamados a aconsejar a nuestros jóvenes, a guiarlos por buenos caminos, a enseñarles como su primer deber y su primer trabajo amar a Dios y servirle incondicionalmente. Pero primero debemos preguntarnos nosotros mismos  si somos los idóneos  para dar esos consejos y segundo, si llevamos nosotros a la práctica lo que nos enseñó Jesús con su ejemplo.

Recodemos que con nuestros actos no estamos engañando a nadie, sino a Dios, porque muchos de los que nos rodean nos conocen. Si de verdad decimos creer en Dios, cumplamos lo que Él nos manda, porque Él será nuestro juez supremo.

 

Oración: Señor, oramos por aquellos que erróneamente aconsejan sin mirar primero sus propios defectos. ¡Que nuestro testimonio sea luz y guía para quienes nos rodean! Amén.
