DIALOGUE WITH GOD

Judges  1:1-10

The Lord answered…

            Communication is a two-way process. Not only do we speak to God, but God also speaks to us. We see this in today's reading when the people ask God a question, and He answers.

            Many people see prayer as a monologue through which they talk to God. It is not that He speaks to us in an audible way, but through the Bible He speaks in a very personal way to those who make the effort to listen. Some people think that reading the Bible and praying are simply religious activities, but they should be the means of intimate communication between us and God. As we read the Bible, God speaks to us about Himself and about our lives. The Bible is more important than any book we have ever read about human relationships, because it is the very dialogue of the God of creation with us, His creatures. Your relationship with God will grow only when you learn to communicate with Him. 

            Consider some practical ideas for communicating with God. Read the Bible with attentive ears and a willingness to listen to His voice.  As you read the Scriptures, you will find that certain phrases, prayers and ideas will stand out in each chapter. These are likely to be thoughts that God is communicating to you, so listen carefully. You are participating in an intimate dialogue of great value.

 

Prayer: My ears are ready to listen to you, and to respond to you, Lord. Amen.

DIALOGO CON DIOS

Jueces  1:1-10

Y  Jehová respondió…

Jueces 1:2

            La comunicación es un proceso de ida y vuelta. No solo le hablamos a Dios, sino que Dios también nos habla. Esto lo vemos en la lectura de hoy cuando el pueblo le hace una pregunta a Dios, y Él responde.

            Muchas personas ven la oración como un monólogo por medio del cual hablan con Dios. No es que Él nos hable de una manera audible, sino que a través de la Biblia nos habla de una manera muy personal a aquellos que hacen el esfuerzo de escuchar. Algunas personas piensan  que leer la Biblia y orar son simples actividades religiosas, pero deberían ser la vía de comunicación íntima entre nosotros y Dios. Al leer la Biblia, Dios nos habla de Él mismo y de nuestra vida. La Biblia es más importante que ningún libro que jamás hayamos leído sobre relaciones humanas, porque es el mismísimo diálogo del Dios de la creación con nosotros, sus criaturas. Tu relación con Dios crecerá solo cuando aprendas a comunicarte con Él.

            Considera algunas ideas prácticas para comunicarte con Dios. Lee la Biblia con oídos atentos y dispuestos a escuchar su voz.  Al leer las Escrituras, encontrarás que ciertas frases, oraciones e ideas resaltarán en cada capítulo. Es probable que sean pensamientos que Dios te comunica, de modo que escucha atentamente. Estás participando de un diálogo íntimo de gran valor.

 

Oración: Dispuestos están mis oídos para escucharte, y responderte, Señor. Amén.

WHAT ARE WE EXPECTING

Luke  17:20-25

… because the kingdom of God is within us

Luke 17:21

            The Jewish leaders always wanted to know when the Kingdom of God would come. They wanted to be important in the kingdom as they imagined it. And so they raged against Jesus trying to catch him in something, which according to their customs was unseemly.

            People of faith are those who read the Bible, who worship in community, who seek God in the life of his people. We know that the Kingdom of God is not a kingdom of this world, like Alejo Carpentier's novel. The Kingdom of God has already come. Jesus brought it to us. He  made it very clear to us, and he lived what this Kingdom consisted of. All his acts of healing, all the words he shared, all the gestures of self-giving, are the key to understanding this Kingdom. When someone accepts Christ, he must seek to enter that Kingdom by trying to do what Jesus did. When someone believes in God, he must allow himself to be challenged by that Kingdom, he must let it enter his mind, his heart, and then we can truly know what Jesus meant when he said: The Kingdom of God is among us.  

 

Prayer: Lord, who brought your Kingdom into our hearts, may we learn to live in it while we await your return  without warning. Amen

¿QUE  ESPERAMOS?

Lucas 17:20-25

He aquí el reino de Dios está entre nosotros.

 

Lucas 17:21

            Los líderes judíos siempre querían saber cuándo vendría el Reino de Dios. Ellos deseaban ser importantes en el reino que ellos se imaginaban. Y por eso se ensañaban con Jesús tratando de atraparlo en algo indecoroso, según sus costumbres.

            El pueblo de fe  es el que lee la Biblia, que adora en comunidad, que busca a Dios en la vida de su pueblo. Sabemos que el Reino de Dios no es un reino de este mundo, como la novela de Alejo Carpentier. El Reino de Dios ya ha venido. Jesús nos lo trajo consigo. Jesús nos expresó bien claro, y así lo vivió,  en qué consistía ese Reino. Todos sus actos de sanidad, todas las palabras compartidas, todos los gestos de entrega, son la clave para entender ese Reino. Cuando alguien acepta a Cristo, debe buscar entrar en ese Reino al intentar hacer lo que Jesús hizo. Cuando alguien cree en Dios debe dejarse interpelar por ese Reino, debe dejarle entrar en su mente, en su corazón, y así podremos saber de verdad lo que Jesús quiso decir cuando dijo: El reino de Dios está entre nosotros.

 

Oración: Permite Señor, que trajiste tu Reino a nuestros corazones, que aprendamos a vivir en él para esperar tu regreso sin advertencias. Amén.

SEPTEMBER 1

FOUR THINGS WE NEED

2 Peter 1:1-7

…and to godliness, mutual affection; love.

2 Pedro 1:7

            During all this time we have been living with a cruel pandemic, the most natural thing to do has been to feel dismay, anguish and even despair. First: because we did not know when, or how to reach the end; and second: because we do not want, nor do we know how to give up the customs, habits and routines, or the simple pleasures of our life.

            Precisely when obstacles are greater, our faith must be stronger and purer. This prevents our morals from weakening along the way and our right judgment from being obscured.

            Only the practice of Christian good and the purification of our minds leads to  necessary self-control when the waters of the river of life are overflowing.

            In such circumstances, we must act with equanimity and patience, trust in Him, and be in solidarity with the sorrows of people who also suffer.

 

Prayer: Most loving Heavenly Father, into your holy hands we place all suffering humanity. We ask your blessing for this world that needs you so much. Accompany the sick, the unemployed, those who are left alone. In the name of your Son Jesus we pray, amen.

CUATRO COSAS PRECISAMOS

2 Pedro 1:1-7

… a la piedad, afecto fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, amor

2 Pedro 1:7

            Todo el tiempo que estuvimos conviviendo con una cruel pandemia, sentir desconsuelo, angustia y hasta desesperación ha sido   lo más natural. Primero: porque no se sabía hasta cuando, ni cómo llegar al final; y segundo: porque no queremos, ni sabemos renunciar a las costumbres, los hábitos y las rutinas, o a los simples placeres de nuestra vida.

            Precisamente cuando los obstáculos  son mayores, nuestra fe más fuerte y pura debe ser, para impedir que en el camino nuestra moral se  debilite y el  juicio recto se oscurezca.

            Sólo la práctica del bien cristiano y la purificación de nuestra mente conducen al autocontrol necesario cuando las aguas del río de la vida están desbordadas.

Tenemos, en circunstancias como esas, que actuar con ecuanimidad y paciencia, confiar en Él, y ser solidarios con las penas de las personas que también sufren.

 

Oración: Amantísimo Padre Celestial, en tus santas manos colocamos a toda la humanidad que sufre. Te pedimos tu bendición para este mundo que tanto te necesita. Acompaña a los enfermos, a los desempleados, a los que se han quedado solos. En el nombre de tu Hijo Jesús oramos, amén.
