HIS WILL, NOT OURS, BE DONE!

ROMANS 12:1-2

“...then you will be able to test and approve what God’s perfect will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:2

How difficult it is to know God’s will, and how even more difficult it is to accept, once we know it!  Many Christians who have lived through profound experiences have given us practical advice on how to discover and later accomplish God’s will.  God invites us to pray continually each day, to study his Word, to experience communion within the Church and outside of it, to serve others.  Let us accept his call and let us always hope in God, acknowledging that his will is perfect.

Let us make Frank Laubach’s declaration our own: “I should continue on this journey of discoveries in search of God’s will, I should submerge myself in the powerful experiences of intercessory prayer in order to test my hypothesis that God needs my help in order to do his will with others and that my prayer might unleash his power."

Prayer:  May your will be done, and not ours, Lord!

de Dios, agradable y perfecta”

¡Qué difícil es conocer la voluntad de Dios y más difícil todavía es aceptarla una vez que la sepamos! Muchos cristianos que han vivido experiencias profundas nos han dado consejos prácticos de cómo descubrir  y luego cumplir la voluntad de Dios. Dios nos invita cada día a orar sin cesar, a estudiar su Palabra, a vivir la comunión en la Iglesia y fuera de ella, a servir a nuestro prójimo. Aceptemos su llamado y esperemos siempre en Dios, reconociendo que su voluntad es perfecta.

Hagamos nuestra esta declaración de Frank Laubach: “Yo debo proseguir este viaje de descubrimientos en búsqueda de la voluntad de Dios, debo zambullirme en los poderosos experimentos de la oración intercesora para probar mi hipótesis que Dios necesita mi ayuda para hacer su voluntad con otros y que mi oración desate su poder”.

Oración: ¡Que se cumpla tu voluntad y no la nuestra, Señor!

THE WORD OF THE LORD REMAINS

EPHESIANS 6:10-20

“Pray for me also, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel...”

Ephesians 6:19

It is true that we live in a changing world, in which the mutability of many things amazes us. We see realities in nature itself that overwhelm our senses by their great truthfulness. Geography is changed by earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes and also by human irresponsibility that unfortunately have become everyday news.

Fashions and artistic tendencies and political perspectives change…in the midst of these realities we arise as Christian men and women, of course also walking and changing with the times, but secure in a great certainty: the word of God remains forever.

This conviction gives us direction in the midst of a world in which plurality should be the blessing of respecting all men and women.  Our orientation, our criteria of holiness and salvation, come from the eternal and transcendental message of the word of God.  

Prayer: Lord, may your Holy Word guide our lives today and always. Amen.

 LA PALABRA DEL SEÑOR PERMANECE

EFESIOS 6:10-20

“y por mí, a fin de  que  al abrir  mi boca me sea dada palabra  para dar a conocer con denuedo el misterio del evangelio”

Efesios 6:19

Es verdad que vivimos en un mundo cambiante, en el que la mutabilidad de muchas cosas nos asombran. Vemos realidades en la propia naturaleza que nos embargan los sentidos por su gran veracidad. Cambia la geografía por terremotos, tornados y huracanes y también por irresponsabilidades humanas que desgraciadamente se han vuelto noticia de todos los días.

Cambian las modas, las tendencias artísticas, las perspectivas políticas… En medio de estas realidades nos levantamos como cristianos y cristianas, por supuesto que también caminando y cambiando con los tiempos, pero afianzados en una gran certeza: la palabra de Dios permanece para siempre.

Esta convicción nos orienta en medio de un mundo en el que la pluralidad debe ser la bendición de respetar a todos y todas y sabiendo que nuestro camino de sentido, nuestro criterio de santidad y salvación, provienen del mensaje eterno y trascendente de la palabra de Dios.

Oración: Señor, que tu Santa Palabra guíe nuestras vidas hoy y siempre. Amén.

  LET US GO OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE

MARK 4

“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side’”.

Mark 4:35

As disciples of Jesus we should be guided throughout our journey. If we were to follow our own reasoning, we would stay here, on this side, with what we already have, and what we've achieved up to now. But Jesus wants us to go over to the other side and not just by going around the edge of the lake, but by traveling across it.  As his family today, we will traverse difficult seas: misunderstandings, unfaithfulness, and problems concerning our children.  The mistake would be to remain stagnant and resigned where we are.  To remain in our lies, in bitterness, in rancor and complaint, in failure, in pain, in our errors.

Today, as you submerge yourself in your struggle, in your lake, allow yourself to see the power of God quieting the waters, calming the opposing winds. At your work, in your home, in your church, there you will find that God’s power is available to you today. Having completed the crossing, once on the other side, the disciples were much better able to understand each miracle, each healing, each word pronounced by Jesus. As we traverse life’s storms with our Savior, there will always be an opposite coast, and other banks in which to see his glory and his power.

 Prayer: Lord, allow my life to be forever guided by you. Amen.

PASEMOS AL OTRO LADO

MARCOS  4

“Al anochecer de aquel mismo día, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: Vamos al otro lado del lago”.

Marcos 4:35

Como los discípulos de Jesús debemos ser guiados en nuestro caminar. Si fuera por nuestros razonamientos, nos quedaríamos aquí, de este lado; con lo que ya conseguimos, con lo logrado hasta ahora. Mas Jesús quiere que pasemos al otro lado y no precisamente bordeando el lago, sino atravesándolo. Hoy como familia, debemos cruzar mares de dificultad: incomprensiones, infidelidades, problemas de nuestros hijos. El error es quedarnos estancados y resignados donde estamos. Quedarnos en la mentira, en la amargura, en el rencor y la queja, en el fracaso, en el dolor, en nuestros errores. 

Deja hoy que mientras te sumerges en tu lucha, en tu lago, puedas ver el poder de Dios aquietando tus aguas, sosegando tus vientos contrarios. En tu trabajo, en tu casa, en tu iglesia, allí está el poder de Dios disponible para ti hoy. Cuando terminó la travesía, del otro lado los discípulos pudieron comprender mucho mejor, cada milagro, cada sanidad, cada palabra de Jesús. Al cruzar tempestades con nuestro Salvador, siempre habrá otros lados, otras orillas donde ver su gloria y su poder.

Oración: Señor, permite que mi vida siempre esté guiada por ti. Amén.

GOD IS HERE

GENESIS 28:10-22

“…Surely the LORD is in this place…”

Genesis 28:16

 Jacob’s life is turned around when he has to flee from his brother.  All of his plans change, and he has to leave his family and his home life behind. It was probably in the solitude of the wilderness that he began to realize the seriousness of what he had done.  Through his dream, he is able to see that, in spite of his wrongdoing, God is with him.

The grace of God manifests itself because, in spite of our errors, God reveals himself to us and gives us his hand in order to begin life anew.  The life of a Christian is like the waters of a river, continually renewed, and continually submitted to changes.  Through changes and at crossroads God accompanies us and helps us to begin anew. There can be no happy Christian life where there is no movement. In each change, in each new experience, the love of God perfects itself in us.

Prayer: You are here changing everything. You, Lord, are here giving me the strength to initiate new paths.  You are here gifting me your company. I can see you in what could not be, in the plans that were broken, in the life that changed.  I will walk calmly, without fear, because You are here. Amen.

DIOS ESTÁ AQUÍ

GÉNESIS 28:10-22

“… Ciertamente Jehová está en este lugar…”

La vida de Jacob da un giro cuando tiene que huir de su hermano. Todos sus planes cambiaron, atrás quedó la vida del hogar, probablemente, es en la soledad del campo cuando comienza a darse cuenta de la gravedad de lo que ha hecho. A través del sueño,  ve que a pesar del mal, Dios está con él.

La gracia de Dios se manifiesta porque a pesar de nuestros errores, Dios se nos revela y nos da su mano para iniciar una nueva vida .La vida cristiana es como las aguas de los ríos, continuamente es renovada, continuamente es sometida a cambios. En los cambios y las encrucijadas Dios nos acompaña y nos ayuda a recomenzar. No puede existir una vida cristiana feliz donde no hay movimiento. En cada cambio, en cada nueva experiencia, el amor de Dios se perfecciona en nosotros.

Oración: Tú estás aquí cambiándolo todo. Tú Señor, estás aquí dándome fuerzas para iniciar nuevos senderos.  Tú estás aquí brindándome tu compañía.  Te puedo ver en lo que no pudo ser, en los planes que se rompieron,  en la vida que cambió. Caminaré tranquila, sin miedo, porque Tú estás aquí. Amén

NOW I CAN SEE

JOHN 9:1-34

“… yet he opened my eyes.”

John 9:30

This passage speaks to us about physical and spiritual blindness. The blind man is able to see Jesus as one who is able to heal him.  The Pharisees, on the other hand, were spiritually blind; they were unable to recognize the power of Jesus. Healing by Jesus gives us the ability to see life in full. When the blind man recovers his vision, he is able to testify to what has happened in his life. Jesus wants us to be people with a different vision; he comes to give us strength and the ability to live without fear. The blind man was able to courageously confront those who had stooped in order to offer him their alms, but who were incapable of inviting him to take part in a true life.

The Blind Man’s Testimony

I used to be blind, sightless

 I walked directionless, surrounded by darkness.

In me was neither purpose nor destiny

I was the object of pity and misery

Then suddenly, one morning, my life changed

Someone touched my eyes

And told me to wash myself in a pond.

I recovered vision of body and of mind.

Now, I know who I am and what I believe.

Jesus came into my life, and now I see.

Prayer: Lord, open our eyes. Help us to have true vision. Give us the courage to confront our daily struggles. Amen.

AHORA VEO

JUAN  9:1-34

“… y a mí me abrió los ojos…”

Juan 9:30

Este texto nos habla de la ceguera física y espiritual. El ciego es capaz de ver a Jesús como alguien que puede sanarle, los fariseos en cambio estaban ciegos espiritualmente, no podían reconocer el poder de Jesús. La sanación de Jesús abarca la vida en su plenitud.  Cuando el ciego recobra la visión, es capaz de testificar lo que ha pasado con su vida. Jesús quiere que seamos personas con una visión diferente, viene para darnos fortaleza y para hacer que podamos vivir sin miedo. El ciego fue capaz de enfrentarse con valentía a aquellos que antes se agachaban para darle una limosna, pero que no eran capaces de invitarle a compartir la propia vida.

Testimonio del ciego

Antes yo estaba ciego, no veía

Tinieblas me rodeaban, caminaba sin rumbo,

En mí no había meta ni destino

Objeto era de lástima y miseria

De pronto, una mañana, cambió mi vida

Alguien tocó mis ojos

y me mandó a lavarme en un estanque.

Recobré la visión de cuerpo y mente.

Ahora, ya sé quien soy y en lo que creo.

Jesús vino a mi vida, ahora ya veo.

Oración: Señor, abre nuestros ojos. Ayúdanos a tener una verdadera visión. Danos el valor para enfrentarnos a los retos cotidianos. Amén.

GIVING UNTIL IT HURTS

LUKE  12:32-34

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 12:34

If someone were to tell us that we should sell what we have in order to give it away, we would probably think that this person’s mental faculties were not well.  For many people, possessions represent security, comfort, and a way of preventing future neediness. The text we are looking at begins with the request to have no fear. The request to give away our belongings is so that we understand that we cannot tie ourselves down to our material possessions. We should not be fearful in the face of material insecurity.  Earthly goods come to an end; youth passes; physical beauty fades; there is a time for everything, as it says in Ecclesiastes.

In the Christian life, one needs to cling to those things that remain forever. Who could take our joys and our gestures of shared love away from us?  If we had a mirror that looked at our inner beauty, as in the fairy tale of the wicked queen, surely it would tell us that the most beautiful faces are found on those whose wrinkles have been formed in the service and care of others.  That is the secret of giving: to live without selfishness, giving of ourselves at each step to those around us. That is a treasure never to be destroyed.

Prayer:   Father, teach us to live without fear of devotion. We beseech you. Amen.

DAR HASTA QUE NOS DUELA

LUCAS  12:32-34

“… porque donde está  vuestro tesoro,

allí estará también vuestro corazón”

Lucas 12:34

Si alguien nos dijera que debemos deshacernos de lo que tenemos para regalarlo, posiblemente pensaríamos que esa persona no está bien de sus facultades mentales. Para muchos los bienes representan seguridad, comodidad, una forma de prever que nada les falte en un futuro El texto que nos ocupa comienza con la petición de que no tengamos miedo. La petición de que vendamos es para darnos a entender que no podemos aferrarnos a los bienes materiales. No podemos sentir temor ante las inseguridades materiales, los bienes terrenales se acaban, la juventud pasa, la belleza física se termina, todo tiene su tiempo como dice el Eclesiastés. En la vida cristiana hay que aferrarse a lo que permanece para siempre. ¿Quién podrá quitarnos las alegrías y los gestos de amor compartidos? Si como la reina del cuento infantil, tuviéramos un espejo que mirara la belleza interior, seguramente nos diría que los rostros más bellos están en los que tienen las arrugas que se han formado en el servicio y en la preocupación por los demás. Ese es el secreto de vender para dar, vivir sin egoísmos, dándonos a cada paso a los que nos rodean. Ese tesoro no nos podrá ser arrebatado.

Oración: Padre, enséñanos a vivir sin temor a la entrega. Te lo pedimos, Amén.

 BETTER UNDERSTANDING LEFT-HANDEDNESS

EXODUS 17: 8-12

“Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.”

 Matthew 19:13

Those of us who are older remember how in the past little boys and girls were discouraged from writing with their left hand.  For a long time it was thought that left-handed people did everything backwards. Many of us were forced to learn to use our right hand. It was not known that this practice could be harmful to our health. In more modern times it has been discovered that using both hands is beneficial to the development of the brain and that it can avert certain illnesses.

Both of Moses’ hands are held up in the text from Exodus because they are both necessary. When Jesus blessed he used both hands. Many times the Church has used only the right hand. Many left-handed men and women have been excluded. We have been exclusionary, considering women, boys and girls, adolescents, people of other races or of different sexual orientations as people who need to be taught to behave and assume attitudes that greatly resemble those imposed on many left-handed individuals. Society has wasted many years of the benefits of the left hand.  So many good things have been wasted by the Church for having excluded these people!

Prayer: Lord, teach us to act and to think with both of our hands. Amen.

 REIVINDICACIÓN DE LA MANO ZURDA

ÉXODO  17: 8-12

“Entonces les fueron presentados unos niños,

para que pusiese las manos sobre ellos, y orase.”

 Mateo 19:13

Aquellos que somos mayores recordamos como en el pasado se procuraba que los niños y niñas no escribieran con la mano izquierda. Por mucho tiempo se manejó la idea de que la persona zurda todo lo hacía al revés. Muchos fuimos obligados a aprender a utilizar la mano derecha. Se desconocía que esta práctica podía traer trastornos a la salud. Modernamente se ha descubierto que el utilizar las dos manos es beneficioso para el desarrollo del cerebro y que puede evitar ciertas enfermedades.

En el texto de Éxodo se le sostienen las dos manos a Moisés porque las dos son necesarias. Cuando Jesús bendecía usaba las dos manos. Muchas veces la Iglesia ha utilizado sólo la mano derecha. A la izquierda han quedado muchos y muchas que han sido excluidos. Hemos asumido posiciones excluyentes, hemos considerado a las mujeres, a los niños y niñas, a los adolescentes, a los de otras razas, o de diferente orientación sexual como personas a las que hay que enseñar a comportarse y a asumir actitudes que se parecen en mucho a la obligación que nos fue impuesta a muchos zurdos. Durante mucho tiempo la sociedad desperdició los beneficios de la mano izquierda. ¡Cuántas cosas buenas habremos desperdiciado como iglesia a excluir a estas personas!

Oración: Señor, enséñanos a actuar y a pensar con las dos manos. Amén.
