EACH DAY

PSALM 100

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens!

Psalm 68:19

When I was a girl I anticipated birthdays with great hopes. I knew that my parents would always have a surprise for me.  But when I grew into an adult, my perspective changed.  The day of my birthday became a day just like every other day, with work, responsibilities, and without much time for surprises.

And then on one of my birthdays during my devotions, I came across this biblical verse that I wish to share with you today, and it made me reflect upon the importance of living a thankful life. We shouldn’t let a day go by without welcoming and celebrating God’s blessings. Our birthday especially should be a day of showing our gratefulness for the life that God has given us: our family, our friends, our church and so many other gifts.

I’ve never allowed another birthday to pass by without acknowledging my gratitude to God; gathering together with my family and friends, sharing a delicious meal, singing and exchanging the affections of my loved ones. I invite you today and every day to be able to say alongside me: Thank you, God, for my life and for that of my family. Thank you for the calling that you have given me to share my gifts and to participate in your Work.

Prayer: We give you thanks, oh God, for the blessings of each day.  Grant that we may celebrate the life that you have given us and that we not lose the ability to be joyful even in the midst of our daily challenges. Amen.

CADA DÍA

SALMO 100

¡Bendito sea el Señor! ¡Cada día nos colma de beneficios

el Dios de nuestra salvación!

Salmo 68:19

Sunday, October 2 World Communion Sunday World Fellowship 1 JOHN 1:5-10

Sunday, October 2

World Communion Sunday

World Fellowship

 1 JOHN 1:5-10

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another

1 John 1.7a

I propose that we reflect upon the celebration of the Day of World Communion.  It is celebrated the first Sunday in October, and it is one of the most important celebrations of the Universal Church. The Lord’s Supper and baptism are the two sacraments celebrated by the majority of Protestant churches, because they were ordained by Jesus.

The term Communion refers to our intimacy with God and to our fellowship with one another, when we share the elements of bread and wine around a table. It is also known as ‘Eucharist’ (from the Greek, “action of giving thanks”), which refers to the enjoyment of a celebration.

From the beginnings of the Church, the Lord’s Supper has been celebrated regularly.  The people would bring their bread and their wine from home to share at the Lord’s Table. The Scriptures were read and the gospel was proclaimed. Preaching presents the Word of God in Jesus Christ, the same person who, as John Calvin said, was actually present in the breaking of the bread and in the shared drinking of the wine. The elements of bread and wine are common elements. There is nothing neither special nor magical in them. What makes them special and relevant is that the people of God recognize them as a steadfastness of self-devotion to God’s love in Jesus Christ. In the act of breaking bread, and of pouring wine, and of sharing, Christ makes himself present.

By participating in the Lord’s Supper, the worshippers become co-participants in the history of God’s salvation. What took place many years ago becomes today’s reality, in the same way that the resurrected Christ’s presence is in the sacrament today in order to redeem the people of God, who are scattered all over the world, and equally includes all human beings.

Prayer: Today we once again become participants in your body and your blood. Inspire our lives in the grace of your Holy Spirit so that we may be faithful examples of you, our Jesus. Amen.

Domingo de Comunión Mundial

LA COMUNIÓN MUNDIAL

1 JUAN 1:5-10

Saturday, October 1 LET US CARE FOR OUR ELDERLY

70th Anniversary of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Matanzas

Day of the Elderly in Cuba

LET US CARE FOR OUR ELDERLY

PSALM 71: 17-21

…gray hair the splendor of the old.

Proverbs 20:29b

The life of the elderly has become a topic of serious concern in Cuban society. We know that there is a progressive increase in the aging of the general population. The causes are dissimilar: an increase in life expectancy, a low number of births, the emigration of the workforce-aged population, etc. But even with our Ministry of Health implementing programs to care for this group of people, and with churches also undertaking aide projects, if we look around ourselves we can see that there is an increasing number of elderly who live alone and are ill.

In biblical times, the elderly were greatly respected and honored. The faces of the elderly are marked by their experience, their joys and pain. Let us remember the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. May we reflect today upon the respect and care that these people deserve, those whom God has granted many years of life, so that our acts of help are accompanied by all of the affection that they deserve.  I invite you to pray for these elderly persons and also for our Evangelical Theological Seminary, our old formative institution which celebrates its anniversary today and which maintains its freshness and maturity.

Prayer: Beloved Heavenly Father we pray today for your protection on behalf of our elderly, that you will keep them safe at every moment with your cloak of love and care. We equally give you thanks for our seminary, for the glorious witness of your work that has been forged in this institution year after year. Thank you for its workers and we ask for your continued blessings upon them.  Amen.

Aniversario  70  del Seminario Evangélico de Teología de Matanzas

Día de la ancianidad en Cuba

CUIDEMOS A NUESTROS ANCIANOS

SALMO 71: 17-21

Introduction to October~November~December 2016 Issue of Su Voz

Introduction

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

With the grace of our Lord, today we have the opportunity to deliver another trimester of the Devotional “His Voice” to you.

It is very gratifying to hear the inspired testimony of hundreds of people who have felt spiritually nourished through reading “Su Voz”. It has opened horizons of reassurance and confidence in God’s daily actions in their lives.

Without any doubt, we have noticed a considerable increase in the use of this instrument for the cultivation of the Christian life, especially for believers such as those suffering from illness, and the elderly, and for those who are unable to attend worship services at church.

We know, however, that there remains much to be done in order for our Devotional to achieve its objective: to be spiritual nourishment for believers.

The growth in our lives in Christ does not develop solely in the church pews.  “His Voice” is effective for feeling the Holy Spirit’s presence on a daily basis in a Christian life of deep testimony and faith.

END OF SU VOZ 3RD QUARTER 2016: BLESSED ARE THE TOLERANT

BLESSED ARE THE TOLERANT

Blessed is he who knows how to look at others with the eyes of a friend.

And welcomes each person without cultural, religious, or racial judgments.

Blessed is he who strives to live in harmony with his fellow man, neighbors, companions, and foreigners, rising above the inevitable difficulties germane to human relations.

Blessed is he who holds no grudge, not giving any importance to words or unpleasant gestures, and does not oblige others to live according to his opinions.

Blessed is he who communicates with gentleness, who listens to the reasoning of others, and above all, to that of the weakest.

Blessed is he who is tolerant of himself and coexists serenely with his own limitations y and those of others.

Blessed is he who encourages for the good, to construct a world in which each one my feel himself pleased.

Blessed is he who appreciates the value of differences that characterize each man and woman on our planet, because those differences show the “Name” with which God calls to each one of us.

Blessed is he who cultivates a dream in his heart, that letting fly the colors of our diversity, will see appearing in the heavens a great rainbow as a sign of fraternity and peace, that will clothe the world with light and fiesta.

END OF SU VOZ 3RD QUARTER 2016

Friday, September 30 MY TINY INSTRUMENT WITHIN YOUR GIANT ORCHESTRA 1 CORINTHIANS 12:18-22

Friday, September 30
MY TINY INSTRUMENT
WITHIN YOUR GIANT ORCHESTRA
1 CORINTHIANS 12:18-22

...those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.

1 Corinthians 12:22

It’s said that during an orchestral rehearsal, just as the cymbals were crashing and the violins were playing, the piccolo player said to himself, “How am I useful here; it would be the same if I didn’t play, Anyway, no one hears me.” So he continued with the instrument held to his mouth, but didn’t play. A few instants later the orchestra conductor exclaimed, “Stop! Where is the piccolo?” The maestro’s ear had detected its absence.

There are periods in our lives in which we feel insignificant and useless. When we work for the Lord and see ourselves surrounded by more talented people than ourselves, we want, in a moment of weakness, to draw back and let the others continue with the important task. We think that, that for the most part, our contribution won’t change things much. We forget what the Lord suggests to us as he was taking advantage of the five loaves and the two fish a boy had to feed a multitude.

He placed us here where we are. He distributed the tasks, and bestowed the means to complete them. It’s not up to us to appreciate the importance of the few or many talents we received. Simply put to his service what we’ve received; He is always attentive to the manner in which we complete what we could call “our daily collaboration.”

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be useful, here where you have placed me, going about the work you have handed over to me. I want to please you and give the best of myself. Be with me and use my life for your honor and glory. Amen.

MI PEQUEÑO INSTRUMENTO

EN SU GRAN ORQUESTA

1 CORINTIOS 12:18-22

Thursday, September 29 LIKE A CHILD LUKE 18:15-17

Thursday, September 29
LIKE A CHILD
LUKE 18:15-17

Truly I tell you,
anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God
like a little child will never enter it.
Luke 18:17

Whenever we exalt the qualities of little children, we mention their ingenuity.  I propose to you that we review those characteristics and experiences from the infantile life that God invites us to embrace to enter his Kingdom:

Children trust their parents. Let us trust God, our Father.
Children believe all that they are told. Let us believe in the Word of God.
Children don’t worry about tomorrow. Let us live our lives each day in the immense love God offers us.
Children don’t calculate the consequences of their acts. Let us say YES to God’s will.
Children are totally dependent on the parents. Let us be confident that God will give us everything we need.
Children want to grow. Let’s aspire to have our souls grow through understanding and faith in Jesus Christ.
Children are happy and laugh spontaneously. Our joy is in the Lord, and it should be perceived by others.
Children need lots of love; they cannot develop normally if they are deprived of it. God is love; He loves us as no other can.
Children show their affection toward their parents. We should love God with all our heart and all our strength.

Prayer:   Help me Lord to be like a child. Protect me and protect all the children of the world. Amen.

COMO UN NIÑO
LUCAS 18:15-17
