Saturday, March 21 OUR TITHES OR OUR SUBSISTENCE? MATTHEW 22:15-22

OUR TITHES OR OUR SUBSISTENCE?
MATTHEW 22:15-22

…Then he said to them,
“So, give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s,
and to God what is God’s.” (NIV)

Mathew 22:21b

Year after year we participate in the preparation of the annual budget of our churches. The tithe, which is 10% of our labors, is a sacrifice everyone should make with pleasure, because it’s something insignificant compared to what God gives us daily in our lives, and that the more it hurts to extract it, the more God will reward us for it.

It’s clear that the situation is quite difficult, that there’s not enough money to go around. But we should trust in the security that God will give to us according to our needs. Remember that Christ said, “Our Celestial Father knows you have need.”  Let’s first give to God what’s from Him, and afterward to “Caesar” what is his according to our needs.

God’s work needs your help. Offer your tithe in thankful sacrifice, and let’s offer ourselves in living sacrifice. Isn’t the least we can do for the one who gives us everything, including his own Son?

Prayer:  Lord, we pray for the treasurers of our church, and for all those who, in holy sacrifice to you, help sustain your work with their offerings. Amen,

¿NUESTROS DIEZMOS O NUESTRO SUBSISTIR?
MATEO 22:15-22
… y les dijo: Dad pues a Cesar lo que es de Cesar, y a dios lo que es de Dios.
Mateo 22:21b

Friday, March 20 THE FATHER’S WORD, THE WORD OF LIFE GENESIS 1: 1-4

Friday, March 20

THE FATHER’S WORD, THE WORD OF LIFE
GENESIS 1: 1-4

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”  (NIV)

John 1: 4-5

The world is surrounded by energy. Matter is constantly transformed around us, generating energetic processes that pass undetected, but are found present and interacting in our existence.

In the beginning God created heaven and earth. The creative act that we affirm in our credos begins with God’s voluntary decision that utilizes the power of his word to alter chaos from darkness and disorder to a world of light and order. He wanted to manifest it through natural processes, directing this long chain of evolutionary events.

But the Word had a climax in the incarnate “Word.”  The real energy of life is not simply found in how an animate organism differs from the inanimate world. For us humans, the true reason for shining, and not being of darkness, is that our words can also be used to give “light,” they have power, and we must use them for good.

We live in a world where the power of words is often not being used for life, but rather for death. Let us contribute to the change.

Prayer:  Let us pray to always have words of wisdom, of love and compassion. Amen.

Thursday, March 19 INVOKE THE DIVINE NAME PSALM 86: 1-5

Thursday, March 19
INVOKE THE DIVINE NAME
PSALM 86: 1-5

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.  (NIV)
Psalm 145:18

In the experience of faith, the believer feels God is closer to him when he is called, when his name is invoked in search of support. In this pursuit, there’s a condition that becomes an important element: sincerity.

One cannot call upon God by routine, or believing that it works by a magic formula. What’s important is the sincere heart in search of mercy, with humility, but with the certainty that only God can fill our existential emptiness, whatever its nature may be.

In our lives today there’s no reason why we cannot continue asking and calling upon God. If we approach him with faith and trust, the Lord will listen to our prayer and will show his mercy. Let us await God’s time, his Kairós is not always ours, since he knows far better what times and means are more appropriate to shower his abundant blessings upon his creatures.

Prayer: We praise you, Lord, for your greatness; for your love toward your sons and daughters; for listening to us and responding when we call you. May your name always be blessed. Amen.

INVOCAR EL NOMBRE DIVINO
SALMO 86: 1-5

Wednesday, March 18 NEHEMIAH 2: 17-20

Wednesday, March 18
NEHEMIAH 2: 17-20

They were trying to frighten us, thinking,
“Their hands will get too weak for the work,
and it will not be completed.”
But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”  (NIV)

Nehemiah. 6: 9

Someone has commented that the question “Why” is an anti-force that reduces our momentum to fight and strive. The question places a seal of pessimism or doubt, making possible results seem like something that’s not worth the sacrifice they imply to reach them. “Why study…?  Why do…?”

The homecoming of the repatriates in Babylonia during the time of the Persian King Cyrus implied a share of great sacrifices, not only for the reinsertion in an environment that was no longer theirs but also for the difficult conditions in which they found the city of Jerusalem, previously ravaged by the enemy armies. And amid all this Nehemiah continues to be convinced that something grandiose can be brought about.

As a leader, Nehemiah is successful in involving the entire country in the work. He succeeds in bypassing the difficulties of the opposition, and he himself takes part in the construction.

Do we put obstacles first, before the multiple advantages? Let’s put aside the “Whys” and set our hands to the job without losing heart.

Prayer:  Celestial Father, we pray for the vision to reach that which we need, and courage to face the difficulties that hinder us. We ask this in Jesus. Amen.

Tuesday, March 17 SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR PHILIPPIANS 3: 12-14

Tuesday, March 17
SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR
PHILIPPIANS 3: 12-14

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.
“You of little faith,” he said, “why do you doubt?” (NIV)
Matthew.14: 31

A certain man tells of a disagreeable experience he’d had in the sea, when, by his carelessness, he fell from the launch in which he was seated into the water. Amidst the surprise and fear that overcame him, he became paralyzed and nearly drowned. Later, when he referred to this bitter experience, he was wont to comment, “Water is something unique, one has nothing to hold onto.”

Peter lived through similar moments when, because of his boastful personality, he purported to walk upon the waves of Lake Galilee toward Jesus, who he’d seen do the same. To pretend to do something in vainglory or personal pride is something undignified, even more so if one tries to achieve a recognition of superiority from others.

In Christian life we accomplish things we can take pride in healthily; it’s natural to find satisfaction in what one does, and that serves as stimulus and joy. But we should be careful of the primary intentionality of our actions. In facing the obstacle that sinks us, let us raise our hand so that Jesus may raise us, and let’s make a firm commitment to reach the end of our goal.

Prayer:  Let us pray for strength amidst our tribulations. Let us pray for steadfastness and our faith conviction. Pray for purity of ideals and selfless sacrifice. Amen.

ALGO DE QUÉ AGARRARSE
FILIPENSES 3: 12-14

Monday, March 16
FIRM IN OUR PROFESSION
II PETER 1: 5-11
…Let us remain firm to the faith we profess.  (NIV)
Hebrews 4: 14b
Life is, on occasion, full of situations that can make people move away from their positions and concepts. Furthermore, in matters of faith, this implies dealing with what doesn’t fit within one’s preconceived and memorized schemes, but without internalizing them in a critical manner.
In regards to our churches, they’ve seen people come and go who attend and apparently are upright in their faith, but then some detail occurs that they dislike, some behavior that they believe to be incorrect, and they take offense. Or possibly it’s events in life lacking explanation, and they feel God has not been in control of what’s happened.
The epistles constantly stimulate us to maintain hope in our vocation without deviation. The author of the Letter to
the Hebrews insists that Jesus withstood the greatest conceivable trial, for which he obtained the recompense of finding himself at “the right hand of God.” This is the privilege of those who have remained faithful, and who have found strength amidst trials.

Prayer:  We come to ask you today, Lord, that you increase our faith, and that you keep us firm in our conviction so that our testimony reaches others. Amen.

FIRMES EN NUESTRA PROFESIÓN
II PEDRO 1: 5-11

Sunday, March 15 AFFLICTIONS FOR THE GOSPEL II TIMOTHY 2:1-10

Sunday, March 15
AFFLICTIONS FOR THE GOSPEL
II TIMOTHY 2:1-10

Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner,
but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God,

II Timothy1: 8 (NRSV)

We are often overwhelmed by those who are responsible for sowing discord for no reason. People often misunderstand our actions and misjudge us; so the question arises, what is the point of making an effort as a believer if what results is criticism and incomprehension?

It is also painful to see that many times, precisely because of our Christian witness, problems and difficulties come to us. In such situations we tend to withdraw and think: I’d better not commit myself so much.

But the truth is that there are always situations in which giving worthy testimony of faith, taking Jesus Christ as a model or patron to imitate, produces abundant fruit in the lives of others who, because of our actions, also decide to draw near to the church and change their position regarding Christianity and faith in God.

Prayer: We pray on this day for your strength and courage to face adversity and affliction as resources available to us for our strengthening in faith and our communion with you. Amen.

LAS AFLICCIONES POR EL EVANGELIO
II TIMOTEO 2: 1-10
