THE LORD HELPS US

1 Samuel 30

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.  (NIV)

1 Samuel 30:6

We live in violent times. We find ourselves daily with news that causes us sadness, pain, and fear. Cruelty and violence are certainly part of the human nature that can be most easily manifested when the Holy Spirit of God does not control the person’s life.

Tragedies were also shocking in the era in which David lived. One time, while fleeing from King Saul, he and his men returned to the village where they lived and found only destruction. The Amalekite plunderers had burned everything and taken every wife and child of David and his men as prisoners. Desperation and the search for revenge comes to everyone.

What kind of attitude does one assume faced with a situation like this?

First, David thought and prayed. This is a rational attitude which forces the emotions to remain under control, and opens the thoughts to what is reasonable. David recognized that God is sovereign, so he handed over his cause to the Father who judges righteously. It is true that many times life does not treat us well, but we must never forget that we will always find refuge in God’s fidelity and love.

Prayer: We ask forgiveness, Lord, for the way in which we often react and behave when faced with certain circumstances. Amen.

EL SEÑOR NOS AYUDA

1 Samuel 30

IF WE PRAY WITH FAITH

1 Kings 8:22-53

Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven…(NIV)

1 Kings 8:22

In today’s text there is a beautiful prayer from Solomon on behalf of the people. He fervently desired to build a house in which God could dwell. This prayer could stand as an example of intercession for our own family, for those of our household.

Many times, our prayers are not objective. Although many times we do not know how to pray properly, we can trust that the Holy Spirit will intercede for us before God’s throne of grace. But a sentence like this sums up everything we want for the physical and emotional well-being of our family. Solomon loved the people, and his intercession shows all the love and care he had for the Israelites.

We too should transform our love and care toward our family with prayers to God. Only he can give us all that we need; our faith intercession will be for everyone who surrounds us, a testimony of the goodness, grace, and greatness of God and of his immense love for us.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, because whenever I pray I know you are listening. Thank you because I know tou are always within reach of a prayer. Amen.

SI ORAMOS CON FE

1 Reyes 8:22-53

THIRST FOR THE PRESENCE OF GOD

Psalm 42:1-2

He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

Psalm 23:2 (NRSV)

God is always sensitive to our needs. He never leaves us alone. According to the Psalm, He makes us rest and leads us to still waters.  There is a gentle and loving persuasion in those words. Patiently and persistently, the shepherd leads the sheep and takes them to a place where they can satisfy their hunger and  thirst: a cool and quiet place where there is shade and food; an oasis of possibility for satisfying the desires and the most immediate needs.

God takes the initiative to seek us out and guide us to a place of rest. It is not we who seek him but he who seeks us. In some inexplicable way, God misses us;  he does not want to separate from us. We are always in his thoughts, and he constantly and patiently calls us, not only because we need him, but also because of his desire to always be by our side.

The Lord invites us to seek him. Let us remember that we will be able to know the Lord more deeply  to the extent that we open our hearts for that blessing.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, my words of gratitude will never be enough for your constant love and presence in my life, and for what you do new  Amen.

SED DE LA PRESENCIA DE DIOS

Salmo 42:1-2
