THE LORD HELPS US

1 Samuel 30

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.  (NIV)

1 Samuel 30:6

            We live in violent times. We find ourselves daily with news that causes us sadness, pain, and fear. Cruelty and violence are certainly part of the human nature that can be most easily manifested when the Holy Spirit of God does not control the person’s life.  

            Tragedies were also shocking in the era in which David lived. One time, while fleeing from King Saul, he and his men returned to the village where they lived and found only destruction. The Amalekite plunderers had burned everything and taken every wife and child of David and his men as prisoners. Desperation and the search for revenge comes to everyone.

            What kind of attitude does one assume faced with a situation like this?

            First, David thought and prayed. This is a rational attitude which forces the emotions to remain under control, and opens the thoughts to what is reasonable. David recognized that God is sovereign, so he handed over his cause to the Father who judges righteously. It is true that many times life does not treat us well, but we must never forget that we will always find refuge in God’s fidelity and love.

 

Prayer: We ask forgiveness, Lord, for the way in which we often react and behave when faced with certain circumstances. Amen.

EL SEÑOR NOS AYUDA

1 Samuel 30

Los hombres estuvieron a punto de apedrear a David, pues le echaban la culpa de que los amalecitas se hubieran llevado a sus mujeres y a sus hijos. Sin embargo, David confiaba en que Dios podía ayudarlo, así que se animó

1 Samuel 30:6

            Vivimos tiempos violentos. Diariamente nos encontramos con noticias que nos causan tristeza, dolor y miedo. Por cierto, la crueldad y la violencia son parte de la naturaleza humana, que pueden manifestarse más fácilmente cuando el Santo Espíritu de Dios no controla la vida de la persona.

            En la época en que vivió David, las tragedias también eran estremecedoras. Cierta vez, mientras huía del rey Saúl, él y sus hombres regresaron a la aldea donde vivían y sólo encontraron destrucción. Los saqueadores amalecitas habían quemado todo y se habían llevado como prisioneros a cada esposa y cada hijo de David y de sus hombres. La desesperación y la sed de venganza se  apoderaron de todos.

            ¿Qué actitud hay que asumir ante una situación como esta? En primer lugar David pensó y oró. Esta es una fe racional, que obliga a que las emociones permanezcan bajo control y abre los pensamientos a lo que es razonable. David reconoció que Dios es soberano, entonces le entregó su causa al Padre, que juzga con rectitud.  Es verdad que muchas veces la vida no nos trata bien, pero nunca debemos olvidar que siempre encontraremos refugio en la fidelidad y el amor de Dios.

 

Oración: Te pedimos perdón, Señor, por la manera en que muchas veces reaccionamos y nos comportamos ante determinadas circunstancias. Amén.
