FRIDAY, JANUARY 3

HOLINESS EQUALS RIGHTEOUSNESS

1 John 2:29; 3-6

If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right has been born of him.

1 John 2: 29 (NRSV)

Reading the Bible is fascinating, and interpreting it is a constant challenge for everyone.

We always thought that the word HOLY meant chosen by God for a special task, and in a way it is. In reading this passage and comparing different versions we find that some say Holy and Holiness, and others say Just and Justice. From what we understand about holiness consisting in being just, we must do justly and seek justice with ourselves in the first place, and with those around us, humans and indeed the whole planet.

Today, so close to having celebrated Christmas, is a good time to seek to be like Jesus: Holy and Just. Let’s make the point of every day to be more like Him. Acting and living in holiness and justice is not just a moment in the life of a Christian, it is a long and narrow path. But when HE returns, we will be recoginized for our works of justice and holiness.

Prayer: God of holiness, help us to act with justice and to serve with true love in our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.Dios de la santidad, ayúdanos a actuar con justicia y a servir con verdadero amor en nuestros corazones. Por Jesús, amén.

SANTIDAD IGUAL A JUSTCIIA

1 Juan 2:29; 3-6

Si sabéis que Él es justo, sabéis que todo el nacido de Él es justo también.

La lectura de la biblia es fascinante, e interpretarla es un desafío constante para cada uno.

Siempre pensamos que la palabra SANTO quería decir escogido por Dios para una tarea especial, y en cierto modo es así.  Al leer este pasaje y comparar distintas ediciones, encontramos que unas dicen: Santo y Santidad, y otras dicen: Justo y Justicia. De lo que entendemos que la santidad consiste en ser justo, hacer y buscar la justicia con nosotros en primer lugar y con todos los que nos rodean, los seres humanos y nuestro planeta.

Hoy, muy cerca de haber celebrado la Navidad, es un buen momento para buscar ser como Jesús: Santo y Justo. Hacernos el propósito de cada día ser más parecido a Él. Actuar y vivir en santidad y justicia no es un momento en la vida de los cristianos, es un camino largo y estrecho, pero cuando Él vuelva seremos reconocidos por nuestras obras de justicia y santidad.

Oración: Dios de la santidad, ayúdanos a actuar con justicia y a servir con verdadero amor en nuestros corazones. Por Jesús, amén. 

THURSDAY, JANUARY 2

AND WHERE IS YOUR VOICE?

John 1:19-28

“I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’”

John 1:23 (NRSV)

We have all endured a year of challenges and trials in many countries around the world, including our own. Our work has not stopped. The church has raised its voice in the service of its communities, has made straight the way of the Lord. We, the Church of Jesus Christ, humbly but with the strength that our faith gives us, have tried to help the needy.

How can we say to someone who is hungry and lacking the most essential things, “Come to our church, hear the Gospel”? How could we have celebrated this Christmas without caring about our neighbors or those who suffer all around us? Where is our voice?

We have a desert ahead of us, without love, without peace, without nobility. Let’s raise our voice like John, like all those who work to create the Reign of God.

Prayer: God of John in the desert, God of the mercy of loaves and fishes, help your people to be  the voice that breaks hunger, pain, insecurity, and fear. Give us the faith and the will to serve. Amen.

ENERO 2, JUEVES

¿Y TU VOZ  DONDE ESTA?

Juan 1:19-28

Yo soy la voz que clama en el desierto: enderezad la senda del Señor.

Juan 1:24

Todos hemos pasado un año de desafíos y pruebas en muchos países del mundo y en el nuestro también. Nuestra labor no se ha detenido. La iglesia ha alzado su voz en el servicio  a sus comunidades, ha enderezado el camino para el Señor. Juan el Bautista fue humilde y sincero al responder que no era el Mesías. Nosotros, la Iglesia de Cristo,  humildemente pero con el valor que nos da la fe, hemos intentado ayudar al necesitado.

Porque ¿Cómo decir a alguien: Ven a nuestro templo, escucha el Evangelio, con hambre o sin las cosas más imprescindibles? ¿Cómo podríamos haber celebrado esta Navidad sin importarnos nuestros vecinos o aquellos que sufren a nuestro alrededor? ¿Dónde está nuestra voz?

Tenemos un desierto por delante, sin amor, sin paz, sin nobleza. Alcemos siempre nuestra voz como Juan, como todos los que obran para construir el Reino de Dios.

Oración: Dios de Juan en el desierto, Dios de la misericordia de los panes y los peces, ayuda a tu pueblo a ser voz que rompa el hambre y el dolor, la inseguridad y el temor. Danos la fe y la voluntad de servir. Amén.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1

SALUTE OF LOVE

Numbers 6:22-26

The Lord bless you and keep you

Numbers 6:24 (NRSV)

Moses led the people of Israel through the desert to the promised land. A very difficult task. Thousands of women, men and children, and all that they followed them: shortage and surviving in that place. That led to problems, at times difficult. But the Lord told Moses that the Israelites should bless each other with this benediction: The Lord bless you and keep you.

If we think carefully about it, in this passage we will find that we use distinct phrases of greeting that reflect this blessing: Happy Christmas, Happy New Year, Goodbye (a commendation to God’s care Adios). All are a part of this blessing of God for each of us.

Let’s begin the new year with true wishes for peace and hope for around us, and let’s share this with heartfelt greeting filled with joy. So the Lord will shine in us.

Prayer: Our God and God of all, make of us carriers of your peace. Bless us, Lord, with your grace and shine on our land with your works of love. Amen.

SALUDO DE AMOR

Numeros 6:22-26

El Señor te bendiga y te guarde

Números 6:24

Moisés conducía al pueblo de Israel por el desierto hasta la tierra prometida.  Tarea bien difícil.   Miles de mujeres, hombres y niños, y lo que trae consigo: la escasez, el convivir en ese lugar. Esto traía problemas, a veces difíciles. Pero el Señor ordena a Moisés que los israelitas se den esta bendición: El Señor te bendiga y te guarde.

Si pensamos bien, en este pasaje encontraremos que todos usamos distintas frases de saludo que solo reflejan esta bendición: Feliz Navidad, Feliz Año Nuevo, Adiós. Todos son parte de esta bendición de Dios para cada uno de nosotros.

Comencemos el año con deseos verdaderos de paz y esperanza para los demás y compartamos esto con saludos animosos y llenos de alegría. Así el Señor resplandecerá en nosotros.

Oración: Dios nuestro y de todos, haz de nosotros portadores de tu paz. Bendícenos Señor con tu gracia y resplandece en nuestra tierra con tus obras de amor. Amén.
