TRUSTING IN GOD

HABAKKUK 3:17-19

But the righteous person will live honestly.

Habakkuk 2:4b (CEB)

Habakkuk, one of the Old Testament prophets, was perplexed and depressed by the catastrophe that was brewing.  The imminent invasion of the Chaldeans would humiliate Israel and isolate the land.  Discouragement overtook his soul as he thought about the calamity that would come upon his people.  How could he explain to his people, the chosen people, the seed of Abraham, that the Chaldeans would be the instruments of God to punish them?  Therefore, he proposed to reinforce the people’s faith and hope.  Habakkuk struggled with strong doubts.  He submitted his complaint before God and waited for Him to respond.

The waiting period was a torment for him, but nevertheless, he remained faithful because he trusted that the just would live by their faith.

Despite the disconcerting circumstances and God’s silence, Habakkuk trusted in God.

In the midst of my afflictions, I will be happy in the Lord and will wait for his promises to be fulfilled.

Prayer:  God of grace and mercy, at times we are discouraged when the answers to our prayers are slow in coming.  Help us to understand that you do not abandon us and that we can trust in you always. In the blessed name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

CONFIANZA EN DIOS

HABACUC  3:17-19

El justo por su fe vivirá

Habacuc 2:4b

Habacuc, uno de los profetas del Antiguo Testamento, estaba perplejo y deprimido por la catástrofe que se avecinaba. La invasión inminente de los caldeos humillaría a Israel y asolaría la tierra. El desaliento sobrecogió el alma del profeta al pensar en la calamidad que vendría sobre su pueblo. ¿Cómo podría explicar a su pueblo, el pueblo escogido, la simiente de Abraham, que los caldeos serían instrumentos de Dios para castigarlos? Por tanto, se propuso reforzar la fe y la esperanza de su pueblo. Habacuc bregó con fuertes dudas. Presentó su queja ante Dios y esperó en Él hasta recibir respuesta.

El período de espera fue un tormento para él; sin embargo, permaneció fiel porque confiaba en que el justo por su fe vivirá.

A pesar de lo desconcertante de las circunstancias y el silencio que Dios guardó, Habacuc confió en Él.

En medio de mis aflicciones, me alegraré en el Señor y esperaré en sus promesas.

Oración: Dios de gracia y misericordia, a veces nos desanimamos cuando tardan las respuestas a nuestras peticiones. Ayúdanos a comprender que tú no nos abandonas y que siempre podemos confiar en ti. En el nombre bendito de Jesucristo,  amén.

JOYFULNESS OF THE HEART

PSALM  4

A joyful heart brightens one’s face…

Proverbs 15:13a (CEB)

It would be crazy to think that everyone who smiles is happy.  One needs to know how to distinguish smiles; a smirk, a self-satisfied smile, a conceited smile, a sarcastic smile, a superficial smile, a satanic smile, a cynical smile, a critical smile, a casual smile, a habitual smile, a spiritual smile.

There are good smiles, better smiles and amazing smiles.  Every smile has its peculiar value.  We advocate for the amazing smile.  This type of smile reaches the deepest soul, lasts longer and has a more complete influence.  One cannot put on this type of smile.  It comes from within because it is within.  It is the result of a contented, grateful and joyful heart.  It is the exterior expression of an interior filled with joy that brightens and expands with the passing of days. 

The happy and restful heart produces a radiant face.  When the happiness reaches the center of our being, our face reflects a peace full of joy.  When the spirit is satisfied and happy, vision, the sense of touch and the voice express the glory of God.

Christ is the secret, the fountain, the substance, the center and the circumference of all true and imperishable happiness.

Prayer: Good and gracious God, erase all sadness from our hearts.  Allow us to sprout the best smile of love and commitment to your kingdom.  Amen.

LA ALEGRÍA DEL CORAZÓN

El corazón alegre hermosea el rostro

Proverbios 15:13

Sería una locura pensar que todo el que sonríe es feliz. Hay que saber distinguir las sonrisas: sonrisa afectada, sonrisa de autosatisfacción, sonrisa de vanagloria, sonrisa sarcástica, sonrisa superficial, sonrisa satánica, sonrisa cínica, sonrisa crítica, sonrisa ocasional, sonrisa habitual, sonrisa espiritual.

Hay sonrisas buenas, sonrisas mejores y sonrisas sublimes. Cada una tiene su valor peculiar. Nosotros abogamos por la sonrisa sublime. Este tipo de sonrisa llega hasta lo más profundo del alma, dura más y tiene una influencia más completa. Uno no se puede “poner” este tipo de sonrisa. Viene de adentro porque está adentro. Es el resultado de un corazón contento, agradecido y gozoso. Es la expresión exterior de un interior lleno de gozo, que resplandece y aumente con el paso de los días.

El corazón contento y reposado produce un rostro radiante. Cuando el contentamiento alcanza el centro de nuestro ser, nuestro rostro refleja una paz llena de gozo. Cuando el espíritu está satisfecho y alegre, la vista, el tacto y la voz expresan la gloria de Dios.

Cristo es el secreto, la fuente, la sustancia, el centro y la circunferencia de toda alegría verdadera e imperecedera.

Oración: Dios bueno, borra toda tristeza de nuestros corazones. Permite que nos brote la sonrisa sublime del amor y el compromiso con tu reino. Amén.

CALLED TO HOLINESS

1 PETER 1:13-23

It is written “You will be holy, because I am holy.”

            1 Peter 1:16 (CEB)

When one speaks of saints, we think of pure, divine beings who have some power to perform miracles.  And the most interesting thing is that some people believe they achieve this with certain rituals.  

Throughout the Bible we see a call of God to holiness, which is no more than to welcome us to the new covenant in Christ, this being a progressive approach to God so that he will purify our souls.

Holiness is no more than a true spirituality, where our actions become pure and without deceit or undertones, with the deep conviction that God knows us better than we know ourselves. 

Holiness is neither a magic act nor temporary.  It is more a path that we travel every day, with commitment and sensibility.  

If we feel that God has called us, let us respond with the will to daily travel his path of holiness.  

Prayer: God, clean our life of that which impedes our communion with you.  Through Christ, Amen.

LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD

1  PEDRO 1:13-23

Sed santos, porque yo soy Santo.

Cuando se habla de santos, pensamos en seres puros y divinos que tienen algún poder para hacer milagros; y lo más interesante es que algunas personas creen lograr esto con ciertos ritos.

A través de la Biblia vemos un llamado de Dios a la santidad, que no es más que acogernos al nuevo pacto en Cristo, siendo esto un acercamiento progresivo a Dios para que Él purifique nuestras almas.

La santidad no es más que una verdadera espiritualidad, donde nuestros actos sean puros y sin dobleces, ni trasfondos, con la plena convicción de que Dios nos conoce mejor que nosotros a nosotros mismos.

La santidad no es un acto mágico ni momentáneo. Es más bien un camino que recorremos cada día, con compromiso y sensibilidad.

Si sentimos que Dios nos ha llamado, respondamos con la voluntad de recorrer cada día su camino de santidad.

Oración: Dios,  limpia nuestra vida de aquello que impida la comunión contigo.  Por Cristo, amén.

NOW IS THE TIME

ISAIAH 55:1-4

Listen and come to me; listen, and you will live.

I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful loyalty to David.

Isaiah 55:3 (CEB)

How sad it is to know that a friend or a person known to us will spend eternity without Jesus.  This makes us feel as if we have failed the Lord in some way, as we have not been capable of fulfilling his last order before his ascension:  Go and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19) Or as he said in another way in Mark 16:15:  Go around the world and preach the Gospel to all creatures. 

Do we fulfill that which Isaiah expressed when he tells us to search for God while he can be found?  Do we help to find God at the indicated moment?  Do we know that while men and women are alive, the opportunity and the possibility of an encounter with Jesus, being new creatures through faith in Jesus Christ and heirs of the supreme grace that is Salvation, can be up to the last moment?  This could make us doubtful. 

But nevertheless, I saw the case of a man with a long life given over to idolatry, in the pangs of death, in his last minutes of life, a sister spoke to him of Jesus and asked him the question:  “Do you accept him as your Lord and Savior?”  The man nodded with his head and died a few minutes later.  Was his an act of conscious acceptance?  Or was it a reflexive movement of his head?  I cannot be sure, but by the peaceful expression on his face, I am inclined to think that he accepted Christ in the last moment of his life and was forgiven.  This I believe, and even more, it is my desire. 

Prayer: We pray that you, Lord, will make people understand that death comes at times when we least expect it, and thus it is necessary to look for you soon while you can be found.  Amen.

AHORA ES EL TIEMPO

ISAÍAS  55:1-4

Qué triste es saber que una persona amiga o conocida nuestra parte a la eternidad sin Jesús. Esto nos hace sentir que le hemos fallado de alguna manera al Señor, ya que no hemos sido capaces de cumplir su última orden antes de la ascensión: Id y haced discípulos a todas las naciones (Mateo 28:19), o dicho a la manera de Marcos 16:15: Id por todo el mundo y predicad el Evangelio a toda criatura

¿Cumplimos con  lo expresado por Isaías cuando nos dice que busquen a Dios mientras pueda ser hallado? ¿Ayudamos a encontrar a Dios en el momento indicado? ¿Sabemos que mientras el hombre y la mujer tengan vida, la oportunidad, la posibilidad de un encuentro con Jesús, siendo nuevas criaturas por la fe en Jesucristo y herederos por la gracia suprema que es la Salvación, puede ser en el último momento; Esto pudiera hacernos sospechar.

Sin embargo, vi un caso de un hombre con una larga vida entregada a la idolatría, en su lecho de muerte, en sus últimos minutos de vida, una hermana le habló de Jesús y le hizo la pregunta: “¿Lo aceptas como tu Señor y Salvador?”. El hombre asintió con la cabeza y unos minutos después murió. ¿Fue su acto de aceptación consciente? ¿O fue un movimiento reflejo de su cabeza? No lo puedo asegurar, pero por la plácida expresión de su rostro, me inclino a pensar que aceptó a Cristo en el último momento de su vida y fue perdonado. Eso creo, y además es mi deseo.

Oración: Oramos Señor,  para hacer entender a las personas que la muerte viene en el momento que a veces menos esperan, por eso es necesario buscarte pronto mientras puedas ser hallado. Amén.

MAY IT BE SO

PSALM 106:44-48

All of God’s promises have their yes in him. 

That is why we say Amen through him to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (CEB)

Amen!  It is a word that expresses very well what Jesus meant for us.  Not only did Jesus use it a lot, 103 times in the gospels, but it is a word that tells us a lot about Him.

Jesus is the great Amen of God:  These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. (Revelation 3:14)

All God’s promises are fulfilled and receive the divine Yes in Him.  In Jesus the Father says: May it be so.  God affirms with an Amen, the entire life, crucifixion and death of his Son.  Jesus tells the thief on the cross:  I assure you (literally Amen) that today you will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43) 

The word Amen (may it be so) means the grand power of our faith that sends our prayers to the throne, and it is a sign of our faith in Jesus, the promises of God and the hopes of humanity.  Martin Luther said that we Christians are called to live like “Amen people.”

May all the people of God say, Amen!

Prayer:  Jesus, you are the great Amen of God and our great Amen.  May our lives be a glorious amen to all that you do for us.  Amen.

ASÍ SEA

SALMO 106:44-48

Porque todas las promesas de Dios son en Él “sí” y en Él “Amén”, por medio de nosotros, para la gloria de Dios

2 Corintios 1:20

¡Amén! Es una palabra que expresa muy bien lo que Jesús significa para nosotros. No solo la usó Jesús frecuentemente, 103 veces en los Evangelios, sino que es una palabra que nos dice mucho acerca de Él.

Jesús es el gran Amén de Dios: Esto dice el Amén, el testigo fiel y verdadero, el principio de la creación de Dios (Apocalipsis 3:14)

Todas las promesas de Dios se cumplen y reciben el sí divino en él. En Jesús el Padre dice: Así sea... Dios afirmó con un Amén, toda la vida, crucifixión y muerte de su Hijo. Jesús le dijo al malhechor en la cruz: De cierto te digo (literalmente Amén), hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso (Lucas 23:43)

La palabra Amén (así sea), significa el poder grandioso de nuestra fe que envía nuestras oraciones al trono, y es el sello de nuestra fe en Jesús, las promesas de Dios y las esperanzas de la humanidad. Martín Lutero dijo que los cristianos somos llamados a vivir como “gente de amén”.

¡Que todo el pueblo de Dios diga, Amén!

Oración: Jesús, tú eres el gran amén de Dios y nuestro. Que nuestra vida sea un glorioso amén a todo lo que haces por nosotros. Amén.

THE MOST IMPORTANT IS LOVE

1 CORINTHIANS 13:13

The person who doesn’t love does not know God, because God is love. 

1 John 4:8 (CEB)

As a very little one I was cared for with much love by my parents and taught with these very beautiful feelings of the love that God granted us.  In Sunday School at my church, they taught us the song:

 God is love, God is love, the Bible tells it.

God is love, God is love, look and you will find it.

When I remember this song and I think about the love that we should show to others, I feel great pain at seeing that many do not profess such sentiments and that they are capable of destroying other human beings, even countries go to war for lack of this sentiment. 

These people are far away from the path of God who could give up his Son for the love of us so that we might have life through Him.

As Christians we should go through the world giving love.  Let us not deny this sentiment to anyone, so that God lives through us.

Let us not forget the wise words of the Bible, this is love, not in that we have loved God, but in that God loved us.

Prayer:  Loving God, we beg that you help us to find your path, to live with one another in love.  Amen.

LO MÁS IMPORTANTE ES EL AMOR

1 CORINTIOS 13:13

El que no ama no ha reconocido a Dios, porque Dios es amor

1 Juan 4:8

Desde muy pequeña fui criada con mucho amor por mis padres y enseñada con ese sentimiento tan bello que es el amor que Dios nos otorgó. En la escuela dominical de mi iglesia nos enseñaban la canción:

Dios es amor, Dios es amor, la Biblia lo dice…

Dios es amor, Dios es amor, busca y lo hallarás.

Cuando recuerdo esa canción y pienso en el amor que debemos profesar las personas, siento un gran dolor al ver que muchos no profesan tales sentimientos y que son capaces de destruir a otros seres humanos, e incluso a países que llegan a estar en guerra por falta de ese sentimiento.

Estas personas se encuentran alejadas del camino de Dios que fue capaz de entregar a Su Hijo por amor a nosotros para que tengamos vida por medio de Él.

Como cristianos debemos ir por el mundo dando amor. No neguemos ese sentimiento a nadie, para que Dios viva en nosotros.

No olvidemos las palabras sabias de la Biblia: en esto consiste el amor, no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que Él nos amó a nosotros.

Oración: Dios amoroso, rogamos para que nos ayudes a encontrar tu camino, para vivir en amor los unos con los otros. Amén.

ACTS 5:38-39

Parents, I’m writing to you…

1 John 2:13a (CEB)

Teachers who have had an opportunity of working with adolescents and youth know well how difficult that task has been.  Many have discipline problems in the classroom, and many have felt a weakening sense of vocation faced with a current of rebellion and disobedience.

 Surely you know fathers who affirm that they don’t know what to do with their children. Maybe you have been one of them.  Many psychologists offer counseling for correct parenting.  Our Church invites you on this day to reflect on all that can be done with the tenderness of a father and your Christian testimony in the life of your daughter or son. 

Our task begins on the day this little one enters the world.  From that instant our example and greatest effort should be to show God’s way to our daughters and sons.  I hope that on this Fathers’ Day all can gather as family and give thanks to God for the fathers and grandfathers that have gone before us and for the hope for generations to come to preserve the best family values. 

Prayer: Beloved Father, you who love your sons and daughters with eternal love, we plead to you for the sons and daughters that you have put under our care.  Amen.

Los maestros que han tenido oportunidad de trabajar con adolescentes y jóvenes saben bien cuán difícil se ha hecho esta tarea. Muchos tienen problemas de disciplina en su aula y muchos han sentido debilitarse su vocación ante una corriente de rebeldía y desobediencia.

Seguro conoces de padres que afirman no saber qué hacer con sus hijos. Quizás usted es uno de ellos. Muchos sicólogos ofrecen consejos para ejercer con sabiduría la paternidad. Nuestra Iglesia te invita en este día a reflexionar acerca de todo lo que puede hacer con tu ternura de padre y tu testimonio cristiano en la vida de tu hija o hijo.

Nuestra tarea comienza desde el día que ese pequeñito llega al mundo. Desde ese instante nuestro ejemplo y esfuerzo mayor debe priorizar la tarea de conducirlo por los caminos de Dios. Ojalá que en este día tan significativo puedan todos reunirse como familia y dar gracias a Dios por los padres y abuelos que les precedieron y por la esperanza que tienen en las generaciones que han de continuar los valores mejores de su familia.

Oración: Padre amado, tú que amas a tus hijos con amor eterno, te rogamos por los hijos e hijas que has puesto bajo nuestro cuidado. Amén.
