LET’S NOT PLAY WITH TEMPTATION
JAMES 1:14-15
“For those who desire life
and desire to see good days,
let them keep their tongues from evil.”
1 Peter 3:10-11
When we believers recite the Lord’s Prayer
we repeat the known words, “Let us not fall into temptation.” But we unthinkingly
expose ourselves to it at the same time. It’s certain that these words are much
more difficult to avoid given that we are surrounded by provocative images in
our society, exploited many times by publicity. With the pretext of having
freed ourselves from taboos, hypocrisies, and complexes, today images which
constitute a true affront to the eyes and senses are exposed without modesty in
posters, television, and public sites.
A Christian author wrote, “Don’t try to peacefully
coexist with temptation. If you look with complacence upon that which provokes
evil thoughts or desires which dominate you, you are opening the doors to sin
and exposing yourself to fall into it. If some magazines are the source of some
unhealthy curiosity, get away from them. If your relationship with some people
makes you vulnerable, stop frequenting them.”
If we want to count on God’s help to
resist, that is, to keep ourselves pure amidst a world full of temptations, we
should be conscious of our weakness and the power of evil. Never forget that
behind temptation is the tempter. Flee from it.
Prayer: Lord, free us from the temptations that daily
accost us in our lives. Let us see that your hand is more powerful than the
tempter’s. Amen.

NO JUGUEMOS CON LA TENTACIÓN
SANTIAGO 1:14-15
“El que quiere amar la vida y ver días buenos…
apártese del mal, y haga el bien”
1 Pedro 3:10-11
Los creyentes cuando decimos el Padrenuestro,
repetimos la conocida frase: “No nos dejes caer en la tentación...”,
pero al mismo tiempo nos exponemos con ligereza a ellas. Es cierto que éstas son mucho más
difíciles de evitar debido a que en nuestra sociedad estamos rodeados de
imágenes provocantes, explotadas muchas veces por la publicidad. Con el
pretexto de que nos hemos liberado de los tabúes, de hipocresías y de
complejos, hoy se exponen sin pudor en carteles, en la televisión, en sitios
públicos, imágenes que constituyen una
verdadera agresión para los ojos y los sentidos. Un autor cristiano escribió.
“No tratemos de cohabitar pacíficamente con la tentación. Si mira con
complacencia aquello que provoca en usted malos pensamientos o deseos que lo
dominan, está abriendo las puertas al pecado y se expone a caer en él. Si
algunas revistas son fuente de una curiosidad malsana, aléjese de ellas. Si su
relación con algunas personas le vuelven vulnerable, deje de frecuentarlas.”
Si queremos contar con el socorro de Dios para
resistir, es decir, para mantenernos puros en medio de un mundo lleno de
tentaciones, debemos ser conscientes de nuestra debilidad y del poder del mal.
Nunca olvidemos que detrás de la tentación está el tentador. Huyamos de ella.
Oración: Señor, líbranos de las tentaciones que a diario
se nos presentan en nuestra vida.
Permítenos ver que tu mano es más poderosa que la del tentador. Amén.
