Monday, May 7 MY GOD, THANK YOU Matthew 10:7-33

Monday, May 7
MY GOD, THANK YOU
MATTHEW 10:7-33

You received without payment; give without payment.
Matthew 10:8 (NRSV)

There are lives like springs that cause all the seeds they water to germinate, flower, and bear fruit.
Such lives, which are scarce these days, need to be reestablished again so that they may germinate, flower and bear fruit. Without naming names, let’s look around ourselves. God is at our side.
Gratitude is a virtue by which we recognize gifts received and try to reciprocate. Gratitude is an inner attitude which tries to express itself in words and works.
We must live with hearts overflowing with gratitude for the fruits of blessing which God gives us every day through the witness of other people, through the life of community.
Each day, I ask God to help me have a heart so disposed that this gratitude is reflected in all that I do and in all that I say.

Prayer: God of love, I give you thanks for all the blessings in my life. Allow me to always have a grateful heart. Grant that I may present myself as an offering in service to those around me in response to that infinite grace that we receive from you. Amen.

GRACIAS MI DIOS
MATEO 10:7-33

De gracia recibisteis, dad de gracias
Mateo 10:8

Sunday, May 6 THE GREATEST OF THE THREE 1 CORINTHIANS 13

Sunday, May 6
THE GREATEST OF THE THREE
1 CORINTHIANS 13

And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;
and the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NRSV)

A great description of love appears in today’s reading. It is a passage that is usually read at weddings and inspires even unbelievers with its beauty and poetry. However, few see its practical implications.
This passage is too profound to take in all at once, so take only a couple of key ideas each time. Love takes time; it avoids the posture of “know it all,” is understanding, doesn’t take offense easily and is attentive; at the same time, it shows a positive attitude toward solving problems. All these characteristics are intended for the well-being of the one you love.
But do you need to feel sympathy for the one you love? How much sympathy do you need to feel to be kind or patient? The love described in 1 Corinthians 13 doesn’t emphasize emotion but attitude and action which are not out of our control.
Let’s love others as God has loved us.

Prayer: Lord, help me to shape my relationships with others based on a love that is genuine, patient, humble, understanding and attentive. May we honor you with our words and actions! Amen.

LA MAYOR DE LAS TRES
1 CORINTIOS 13

Saturday, May 5 Anniversary of the Presbyterian-Reformed Church “Getsemaní” (San José de los Ramos) A READING IN THE LANGUAGES OF LOVE 1 JOHN 4:7-12

Saturday, May 5
Anniversary of the Presbyterian-Reformed Church “Getsemaní” (San José de los Ramos)

A READING IN THE LANGUAGES OF LOVE
1 JOHN 4:7-12

but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.

Romans 7:23 (NRSV)

The cross has come to be the universal symbol of God’s love. In the crucifiction of Jesus, God spoke clearly in each of the five languages of love:

Þ         From the cross, Jesus said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) What words of affirmation could speak more deeply of love?
Þ         In his death, Jesus performed his greatest act of service in reconciling sinful humanity with the holy God.
Þ         He gave gifts of inestimable value: pardon of sins and life eternal (Romans 6:23)
Þ         His gifts provided the opportunity for humans to have an intimate relationship with God, spending quality time with the Creator, both in the present and forever.
Þ         It was in the cross that God touched humanity in our place of deepest need and said, “I love you.” Here Jesus fulfilled his promise: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
When we respond to God’s love and begin to identify the various languages that he uses to speak with us, we can also learn to speak those languages.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the sacrifice of your Son Jesus, so that we could have eternal life. Give us the wisdom to speak about the truth of Jesus’ sacrifice in a memorable way for the people with whom we are in a relationship. Amen.

UNA LECCIÓN EN LOS LENGUAJES DEL AMOR
1 JUAN 4:7-12

Friday, May 4 Anniversary of IPR Sancti Spíritus SERVING IN PLACE OF BEING SERVED Acts 20:32-35

Anniversary of IPR Sancti Spíritus

SERVING IN PLACE OF BEING SERVED
ACTS 20:32-35

'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
Acts 20:35 (NRSV)

The key ingredient for a healthy family is a disposition for service. We see that clearly in today’s text. Likewise, in Mark 10:45 we are led to the central point when we read: Jesus did not come to be served but to serve.
To call yourself a Christian is to declare yourself a follower of Christ and his example.
And what if every husband and wife were to follow Jesus’ example? It won’t take long for the children to grasp the idea that life is about serving others. Dad serves Mom; Mom serves Dad. Together they serve the children; and as the children grow up they learn to serve their parents and each other. Then as a family they learn to serve people outside the family.
The problem is that by nature we are egocentric. In our families we expect that others will take care of us. When that doesn’t happen, we complain, and life falls apart. If your family is plagued by this attitude, try to introduce an element of service into the daily routine. It may take a while to implement the changes, but when it happens, you will see a marked change in the dynamics of your family.

Prayer: I want to thank you today for the people who have been an example of service in my life. Help me to free myself from all insecurity and the false pride that can hinder me from serving other people and all your creation. Amen.

SERVIR EN LUGAR DE SER SERVIDOS
HECHOS 20:32-35

Más bienaventurado es dar que recibir
Hechos 20:35

Papá sirve a mamá, mamá sirve a papá.

Thursday, May 3 LOVE IN THE MIDST OF INTERRUPTIONS Luke 8:40-56

Thursday, May 3
LOVE IN THE MIDST OF INTERRUPTIONS
LUKE 8:40-56
While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader's house to say,
"Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer."
Luke 8:49 (NRSV)

Interruptions were constantly happening in Jesus’ life. Everybody wanted a bit of time with him. They wanted to be the center of his attention, even if only for a few seconds. People heard his words and were witness to his miracles, and they wanted what he had to offer.
In defense of these folk we have to say that they had no way to know that they were interrupting the most important work in the history of humanity. They had no way to know because Jesus gave them no clue. When Jairus interrupted Jesus’ journey to ask that he come to his house and heal his daughter, Jesus went. When a desperate woman interrupted his trip to Jairus’ house, Jesus stopped and talked with her.
Jesus allowed the interruptions because he didn’t see them as such. He saw the needs that drew people. He understood people’s motives when they wanted to talk with him. He didn’t allow himself to get angry or upset; rather, he was willing to lay aside his own agenda to respond to their needs.
What kind of impact could we have on the people around us if we were to follow his example?

Prayer: Lord, I want to be aware of your plans for my life in such a way that I may treat interruptions as opportunities to love those around me. Amen.

EL AMOR EN LAS INTERRUPCIONES
LUCAS 8:40-56

Estaba hablando aun, cuando vino uno de casa del principal de la sinagoga a decirle: “Tu hija ha muerto;
no molestes más al Maestro”
Lucas 8:49

Wednesday, May 2 IT’S ABOUT GIVING WITH JOY . . . AND RESPONSIBILITY Malachi 3:8-12

Wednesday, May 2
IT’S ABOUT GIVING WITH JOY . . .
AND RESPONSIBILITY
MALACHI 3:8-12

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, …
Malachi 3:10 a

I have often listened as preachers and leaders of different Christian communities cite texts like the one just read to generate contributions from the faithful through tithes, offerings, first fruits . . . and countless gadgets to raise funds. In the best of instances, those monies received went into educational, diaconal, and evangelistic works, or other forms of assistance. But examples still exist of unscrupulous people who use the Bible to take personal advantage and extort money from humble people.
Something is clear to us in the Holy Scriptures, both in the Old and New Testaments: God is more pleased with obedience than with “sacrifices . . . or the fat of rams,” according to the Prophet Samuel’s denunciation. Moreover, according to Jesus’ testimony, God is more pleased by a humble offering like that of the widow than the ostentatious sacrifices of the hypocrites of his time.
Today let’s ponder what we are prepared to sacrifice to God. Our whole life wouldn’t be enough of a response to God’s immense love for us, but it would be good for us to serve the needy, to share how much or how little we have, and to forgive those who have offended us. This is the sacrifice of praise that God desires from us.
Give of your finances to God’s work joyfully, spontaneously, and freely, all with a sense of responsibility to God’s work – but never for the enrichment of others.

Prayer: Good and gracious God, thank you for allowing us to collaborate with your work through our gifts. Enlighten those who use their power for extortion and deception, so that they turn back to you. Amen.

SE TRATA DE DAR CON ALEGRÍA…
Y RESPONSABILIDAD
MALAQUÍAS 3:8-12

Traed todos los diezmos al alfolí…
Malaquías 3:10 a

Tuesday, May 1 WAYS TO PRODUCE A GREAT HARVEST Galatians 5:16-23

Tuesday, May 1
WAYS TO PRODUCE A GREAT HARVEST
GALATIANS 5:16-23

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NRSV)

1- Plant seeds of love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.  John 15:10
2- Plant seeds of joy. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. John 15:11
3- Plant seeds of peace. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:7
4- Plant seeds of patience.  . . .and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:4
5- Plant seeds of kindness. As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Colossians 3:12
6- Plant seeds of goodness. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. Matthew 12:35
7- Plant seeds of faithfulness. Whoever is faithful in very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in very little is dishonest also in much. Luke 16:10
8- Plant seeds of humility. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. James 3:17
9- Plant seeds of self-control. For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness. . .   2 Peter 1:5-6

Prayer: Lord, allow me in my daily journey through life to stop long enough to plant seeds of good. Amen.

amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, humildad y dominio propio.
