Tuesday, July 2 THE LORD OPENS MY EYES 1 JOHN 4:14-15

THE LORD OPENS MY EYES
1 JOHN 4:14-15

And we have seen and do testify
that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.
1 John 4:14 (NRSV)
We need Christ to open our eyes. Faith allows us to acquire his way of living, his point of view; in other words, a new perspective: seeing as God sees.
We need to see that humanity is not a finished creation and that we must become not a sort of superman, technically and scientifically omnipotent, but much more, a child of God living out of his life, loving as He loves.
We need to see that God counts on each of us to continue creating and making his new creation.
We need to see that collective effort is necessary but to discover that this gigantic effort is the creation that continues and that must be continued with God the Creator present in the work from the beginning of all time.
We need to see finally that everything is a part of this prodigious adventure: each one of us, equally indispensable, every event, and every one of our actions which are regressive toward death and forces progressive toward life.
Yes, faith changes everything. By it I know who I am, where I am going with my brothers and sisters, and what I struggle for.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes so that finally I may see. Amen.

EL SEÑOR ABRE MIS OJOS
1 JUAN 4:14-15

ANOTHER WAY OUT
REVELATION 22:16-17

“. . . I am the root and the descendant of David,
the bright morning star.”
Revelation 22:16b (NRSV)
It is not easy to face the future when one is in a situation with no way out. Throughout his book and on many occasions, the writer of Revelation uses the word “victory.” It’s so hard to see victory when everything appears to indicate defeat. Many years ago, I heard about a famous painting exhibited in an art gallery. It was titled, “The King Has Another Move.” It shows a chess player sitting in front of his table. He had no options; his king was in check mate. Resigning and giving up the game was the only option. The painter portrayed tense muscles in the face of the chess player and defeat showed in his eyes. The portrayal was so perfect that it gave the impression of a state of despair. Many came to see the painting where defeat and the feeling of impotence were so clearly displayed to project themselves even into the spirit of the observers.
A distinguished chess player was found to pass by the painting, and he observed carefully the positions of the pieces on the table. After careful observation, he noted the error that the painter had tried to conceal, and which was beyond the sight of those who didn’t know about the science of chess. But for the intelligent and experienced chess player there was no deception. He realized that the king was able to escape with another move. There was another way out.
Likewise, in life there are closed situations which offer no alternatives to those who do not look with eyes of faith and are signs that there is no way out. Nevertheless, God offers us another move. This is the lesson that the visionary of Patmos offers us. The King has another move for us; your option is to put that into play in the closed spaces of your life.

Prayer: Lord, make us discover the other move that you offer us in order to conquer our defeats. Amen.

OTRA SALIDA
APOCALIPSIS 22:16-17

If you’re angry with someone...

If you’re angry with someone,
If nobody does anything to fix things...
do it yourself.
Maybe today that person
still wants to be your friend,
but if you don’t make up...
… perhaps tomorrow will be too late.

If you love someone, but that
person doesn’t know it…tell them.
Maybe today that person loves you too,
but if you don’t tell them today…
… tomorrow may be too late.

If you still love a person, but
think that they have forgotten you.... tell them...
perhaps that person has always loved you,
But if you don’t tell them today…
… tomorrow may be too late

If you have friends you
appreciate…tell them today.
Maybe they appreciate you too,
but if they leave you…
… tomorrow may be too late

If you love your parents
and never have had a chance to show it... do it.
Maybe you can do it today, but if they go...
… tomorrow may be too late.

Tal vez hoy, esa persona

aprecias... Díselos hoy.
Tal vez ellos también te aprecien,
pero si se van o se alejan…
… tal vez mañana sea muy tarde

Si quieres a tus papás, y nunca has

With time…

With time…
You will learn the subtle difference between
taking someone’s hand and fettering a soul
And you will learn that love does not mean being supported by someone,
and that companionship does not mean security.

With time…
You will begin to understand that kisses are not contracts,
nor gifts promises.
And you will accept your defeats with your head held high, your eyes wide open, with the composure of a woman and not with the strained look of a girl.

With time…
You will learn to build all your roads today, because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain to make plans.
And you will learn that even the pleasant rays of the sun burn if you are in them too long.

Therefore…

Plant your own garden and adorn your own soul, without waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you will learn that you can bear it all, that you are indeed strong, worthy, and that every morning brings a new dawn.

Translation by George Meek

Sunday, June 30 CHRIST AND THE END OF THE QUARTER EPHESIANS 5:1:20

CHRIST AND THE END OF THE QUARTER
EPHESIANS 5:1:20

… always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:20 (NIV)

This meditation brings to an end the quarter of April, May, and June of 2019.
We must recognize that there are times when it is hard to raise our voice and give thanks. It is not always a matter of personal misfortune. We can be very moved by the injustices in society around us, poverty, disasters. Our “whys?” can become thorns.

I think I do not have a totally satisfactory explanation. Faith is sometimes exposed to great tests. We feel that God is hiding sometimes as if behind masks. It’s a fact that even Jesus Christ (human and divine) had to suffer. Paul recommends that at these times we seek refuge in the name of Jesus, which literally means “save us.” In other words, the name itself is a prayer of praise and petition. But many do not use the name of Jesus in the proper way; they use the name for their own enrichment, taking the name of the Lord in vain.

We should use his name more humbly, with more respect, more feeling of gratitude; this name before which the powers of the universe kneel in recognition of the fact that He is the Lord.

Prayer: Father and Lord, at the end of this quarter may we be more conscious of our need for you and that you are the center of our lives. Amen.

CRISTO Y EL FINAL DEL TRIMESTRE
EFESIOS  5:1:20
