IN QUIETNESS

1 Kings 19:12

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still.

Exodus 14:14 (NRSV)

            When the routines of life exhaust us, we can rest in God. In quietness we can be sincere, can be free to express what we feel and think; then doubts and worries fade away. My heart is glad when I begin to pray and hear God’s voice.

            I realize once again that I have an option, that I can seek the good and treasure God’s work, that I can help those around me even when I am in pain because God helps me every day. In quiet, I recover my equilibrium, I can stay unshaken in his promises and words, I can trust in Him because everything will be for the best, even if I don’t understand it. As long as we are close to God’s heart, there is nothing to fear. Our only option is to put faith into action; without faith it is impossible to please him. In the quiet, even though we cannot see or hear, God sees us and hears us, because in the quiet God is with us.

 

Prayer: Lord, when I think you are not by my side, remind me that you are above all existence; never let me be too busy to be still and know that you alone are God. Keep us humble; shape our will in order to follow you and serve you with all that we are in order to be good witnesses to your Reign and do your will. Amen.

EN LA QUIETUD

1 Reyes 19:12

El Señor peleará por vosotros, mientras vosotros os quedáis callados

Éxodo 14:14

            Cuando las rutinas de la vida nos cansan, en Dios podemos descansar. En la quietud puedo ser sincero, puedo ser libre para expresar lo que estoy sintiendo y pensando, las dudas y preocupaciones se desvanecen. Mi corazón sonríe cuando empiezo a orar y escuchar su voz.

            Me doy cuenta una vez más que tengo una opción, puedo buscar el bien y atesorar su obra, puedo ayudar a los demás incluso cuando me duela, porque Dios cuida de mí todos los días.  En la quietud recupero mi equilibrio, puedo mantenerme firme en sus promesas y palabras, puedo confiar en Él porque todo será para bien aunque a veces no lo entienda.  Mientras estemos junto a su corazón no hay por qué temer. Nuestra única opción es poner la fe en acción, porque sin fe es imposible agradarle. En la quietud, aunque no podamos ver ni oír, Él nos ve y nos escucha;  porque en la quietud, Él está con nosotros.

 

Oración: Señor, cuando piense que no estás a mi lado, recuérdame que tú estas sobre toda existencia, nunca me dejes estar demasiado ocupado para no estar quieto y conocer que tú solo eres Dios. Mantennos humildes, moldea nuestra voluntad para que podamos seguirte y servirte con todo lo que somos, para ser útiles testigos de tu Reino y hacer tu voluntad. Amén.

IS GOD REAL?

Psalm 19

The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

Psalm 19:1 (NRSV)

            Yes! We know that God is real because he has revealed himself to us in three ways: in creation, in his Word, and in his Son. The most fundamental proof of God’s existence is simply in what he has created, and that includes us!

            If we were to run into a clock in the middle of a field, we would not assume simply that it had been formed out of nothing, but rather that it had a designer and a creator. The universe displays a magnificent design and tells us of a magnificent Designer.

            If we come across a coded message, we would seek someone to help us decipher it. We would know that someone created this code. How complex is the DNA code that we carry in our bodies!

            God has not only made a world that is physically complex and finely harmonized. We humans have an innate perception that there is more than the eye can see.

            We know that there will always be skeptics who will study the evidence and only think of verifiable causes. For others, there are no proofs that will convince them. And for us Christians, it all comes down to the certainty of faith.

 

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for our incredulity, our doubts, our lack of faith. Bless us with appreciation of your Work.

¿ES DIOS REAL?

Salmo 19

Los cielos cuentan la gloria de Dios, y el firmamento  anuncia la obra de sus manos

Salmo 19:1

            ¡Sí! Sabemos que Dios es real porque se nos ha revelado de tres maneras: en la creación, en su Palabra y en su Hijo. La prueba más fundamental de la existencia de Dios está simplemente en lo que Él ha creado, ¡y eso nos incluye a nosotros!

            Si encontráramos un reloj en el medio del campo, no asumiríamos que simplemente se formó de la nada, sino que tuvo un diseñador y creador. El universo despliega un grandioso diseño, y nos habla de un grandioso Diseñador.

            Si encontramos un mensaje codificado, buscaríamos quien nos ayude a descifrarlo. Sabríamos que alguien creó ese código. ¿Cuán complejo es el código del ADN que llevamos  en nuestro cuerpo?

            Dios no solamente ha hecho un mundo físico complejo y finamente armonizado. La humanidad tiene  una percepción innata de que hay algo más  de lo que el ojo capta.

            Sabemos que siempre habrá escépticos que van a estudiar las evidencias y solo pensar en causas comprobables. Para otros, no habrá pruebas que los convenzan. Y para nosotros los cristianos, todo se reduce a la certeza de la fe.

 

Oración: Perdónanos, Señor, por nuestra incredulidad, por nuestras dudas, por nuestra falta de fe. Bendícenos para apreciar tu Obra. Amén.

WHY DON'T YOU COME AND HELP ME?

Psalm 77: 1-14

In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord

            In Psalm 77, it is horrifying that Asaph, its author, seems to blame God for his suffering. Probably, in the face of pain, this one of the first things we feel. Then, invariably, the question arises, “Where is God?” “Why doesn’t God free me from this dilemma?”

            Confessing honestly what we are feeling is one of the first steps toward healing. Asaph confessed what he was feeling, and then after the relief and doubt about God’s actions, he began to remember and analyze his past. Then in feeling faithfulness, love and mercy, he saw how marvelous God had been with him. This memory allowed Asaph to humble himself before the Father, and to again place his faith in God.

            If you are suffering, remember all that God has done in your life. Pour out your affliction and sadness on the Lord’s altar. He is ready to become that essential thing you need in this difficult stage of pain and trial: your refuge, your help, your deliverer.

            Let’s trust that God will never desert us and will fulfill his promise in our lives.

 

Prayer: Beloved Lord, I will put my trust in you. I will take refuge beneath your wings and will not fear. Amen.

¿POR QUE NO VIENES A AYUDARME?

Salmo 77: 1-14

En los momentos más difíciles, siempre busco a Dios

Salmo 77:2

            En el Salmo 77 causa horror el hecho de que Asaf, su autor, parece culpar a Dios por su sufrimiento. Probablemente ese es uno de los primeros sentimientos que tenemos ante el dolor. Luego invariablemente, surge el cuestionamiento: ¿Dónde está Dios? ¿Por qué  no me libra de este problema?

            Confesar honestamente lo que estamos sintiendo es uno de los primeros pasos para la sanidad. Asaf confesó lo que estaba sintiendo, y luego del desahogo y de la duda sobre las acciones de Dios, comenzó a recordar y a analizar su pasado. Entonces vio cuán maravilloso había sido Dios con él, siendo fiel, amoroso y misericordioso. Este recuerdo hizo que Asaf se humillase ante el Padre, y nuevamente depositase su confianza en Él.

            Si usted está sufriendo, recuerde todo lo que Dios hizo en su vida. Derrame su aflicción y tristeza en el altar del Señor. Él está dispuesto a  convertirse en aquello esencial que usted necesita en esta etapa difícil de dolor y prueba: su refugio, su auxilio, su libertador.

            Confiemos en que Dios nunca nos dejará solos, y que cumplirá su promesa en nuestras vidas.

 

Oración: Confiaré en ti mi amado Señor. Me esconderé bajo tus alas y no temeré. Amén.

WHERE IS GOD?

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”

            Where is God when we hurt? We seem to want to know the answer to this question more than anything else when faced with painful problems and bouts of doubt. Even Jesus during his crucifiction cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” If we believe that God forsook Jesus, obviously we will conclude that God will also forsake us in our darkest moments. However, we then see a series of events that show us that nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even death. From this example we can conclude that even when we can’t feel God’s presence in the midst of our pain, even so we can trust in his promise that He will never desert or forsake us.

            Our lives are like a tapestry. If you look at the back all you will see is a jumble of knots and loose threads hanging everywhere. But when we turn it around we can appreciate how the artisan has deftly woven together each strand to form a beautiful creation. We live with a limited understanding of God’s ways. However, even when we can’t see God’s hand, we can be assured that God has not abandoned us. When we seem to have no strength is when we can most fully rest in God’s presence and power.

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the assurance that you will never abandon us. Amen.

¿DONDE ESTA DIOS?

2 Corintios 12:9-10

Y me dijo: Bástate mi gracia; porque mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad…

2 Corintios 12:9a

            ¿Dónde está Dios cuando estamos dolidos? Parece que deseamos saber la respuesta a esta pregunta más que nada cuando nos enfrentamos a problemas dolorosos y ataques de dudas. Aun Jesús, durante  su crucifixión exclamó: Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿Por qué me has abandonado? Si creemos que Dios abandonó¢ a Jesús, obviamente concluimos que nos abandonará a nosotros también en nuestros momentos mas oscuros. Sin embargo, vemos después una serie de acontecimientos que nos revelan que nada nos puede separar del amor de Dios, ni siquiera la muerte. De este ejemplo podemos concluir que aun cuando no sintamos la presencia de Dios en medio de nuestro dolor, aun así podemos confiar en su promesa de que Él nunca nos dejará  ni nos desamparará.

            Nuestras vidas son como un tapiz. Si miras el reverso todo lo que veras será un revoltijo de nudos e hilos sueltos colgando por todas partes. Pero cuando lo volteamos podemos apreciar cómo el artesano ha entrelazado hábilmente cada hebra para formar una hermosa creación. Vivimos en una limitada comprensión de las cosas de Dios. Sin embargo, aunque no podamos ver su mano, confiemos que no nos ha abandonado. Cuando parezca que no tenemos fuerzas, es cuando más podemos descansar completamente en su presencia y poder.

 

Prayer: Gracias Señor, por la seguridad de que tú nunca nos abandonas. Amén.
