Wednesday, October 3 HERE AM I, LORD EXODUS 3:1-14

Wednesday, October 3
HERE AM I, LORD
EXODUS 3:1-14

I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you
Exodus 3:12 (NRSV)
The apostle said rightly: To go in front of the others, it is necessary to see more than they can. In no other biblical person is this clearer than in the figure of Moses, the barefoot guide. The life of the great law-giver and head of Israel presents one of the most beautiful themes about which the pen of a biblical historian could write It is not possible to speak of the people of Israel and avoid the person of Moses.
God called Moses to serve him in a very simple manner, without the mediation of a prophetic offering or the self-aggrandizement of a human. Rather, his sincere confession that he was incapable of the work put into his hands, was a measure of humility. God called Moses to serve him, and Moses was brief in his response: Here am I.

On Horeb, the Mount of God, there began a glowing accomplishment which would only be eclipsed atop Mount Nebo when the work had been completed, when the mission had been fulfilled. They were hard years, but full of rich experiences; there were terrible trials, but in all of them they emerged victorious with the help of the one who went with him.
Today’s biblical passage raises the need to give an accounting of our attitude before God’s continuing call. Moses had many things to take precedence over God’s call. He had plenty of excuses that he had prepared to use as an argument to avoid the work, but God commanded him in his name and for his glory to carry out the work.
Perhaps today God is calling us as he did Moses to complete a work of love in the world. Let’s take off our sandals and imitate the barefoot guide, saying, Here am I.

Prayer: Here am I, Lord; I want to answer your call. Amen.

Oración: Heme aquí Señor, quiero responder a tu llamado. Amén.

Tuesday, October 2 DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD GENESIS 3

Tuesday, October 2
DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD
GENESIS 3

But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back,
and she became a pillar of salt
Genesis 19:26 (NRSV)
“Don’t take that knife or you’ll cut yourself,” I told my little son when he reached out his hand to take it. After a while he came running toward me crying and showing me a little finger covered with blood. When I turned my back, he disobeyed and took the knife. There in his little cut finger was the consequence of his disobedience.

Disobedience to God is the basic cause of our sins. The sin of our first parents was disobedience. As today’s text says, God warned them not to eat of the tree which was in the middle of the garden, but they disobeyed God and ate. As a result, they suffered for their disobedience, for their sin. In the same way, Lot’s wife, because of her disobedience, also suffered death. The Bible shows us many examples of people who, while believing in God, continued occasionally to disobey his teachings and alienate themselves from his love: Moses struck the rock, David commanded the death of Uriah the Hittite so that he could marry Bathsheba, Jonah didn’t follow the command to go to Nineveh. . . etc.
Let’s not blame God for our sufferings, sorrows, or unhappiness. If we search only a little bit, we will see that the root of all our ills is in our disobedience to God; that is our sin.

Prayer: Lord, thank you not only for your blessings but also for your reproaches and negations. Help me to understand that they are for my own good. Amen.

PASSION FOR THE GOSPEL
PHILIPPIANS 3:12-16

Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own;
but this one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
Philippians 3:13 (NRSV)

Generally, when we see people who accomplish important things, we can detect behind their accomplishments a living and almost contagious passion; whether in sports or in culture, when we see someone win an important prize, or in science the passion that drives someone to make an important discovery for humanity, etc. It was so with Paul after he came to know Christ who had captivated him. Paul knew that he was committed to the mission and, like a good sport, he gave everything to reach the goal without looking back. He tells us that if we also are to reach the goal, we must often forget our past successes and failures, our attainments and frustrations.
We must then call on all our energy and passion because that race which holds many obstacles is not a walk. But perhaps at this point, many will ask what is to be the goal. For me, it is coming to live that Kingdom of God which Christ announced. And we often speak of him as if he were something in the past. Christ didn’t speak of an easy path to the fullness of the kingdom, but that we must overcome many hurdles and obstacles, and that if we accomplish it, our prize will be very great.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for older people who daily encourage us with their passion for your gospel. Encourage us to reach the great goal, leaving behind that which weighs and hinders us, as did those who founded the Evangelical Theological Seminary and those who continue to serve that institution today. May our journey be contagious to others, confident in your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PASIÓN POR EL EVANGELIO
FILIPENSES 3:12-16

Hermanos, no digo que yo mismo lo haya alcanzado;

Introduction

Many people have the custom of turning on the radio or television early in the day so that they don’t feel alone; others like to read the news or prefer to go out into the street to feel participation in the social life.
Fortunately, there are also those who take time to read and meditate on God’s Word.

We know that there are many ways to draw close to the Word. Our devotional intends to be a tool which, by means of short reflections, encourages, accompanies, and helps to understand that God is revealed through his Word and the testimonies of brothers and sisters amid the concrete reality that touches our lives.
Especially in this quarter, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a new year filled with blessings.

A GOOD FRIEND

 A GOOD FRIEND

A good friend helps you to grow in wisdom
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
Proverbs 13:20 (NIV)

A good friend loves you as you are and not for who you are
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)

A good friend stays close to you.
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)

A good friend tells you the truth in love.
Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.
Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)

A good friend gives good advice.
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.
    Proverbs 27:9 (NIV)

A good friend is a helper in difficult times.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV)

Proverbios 27:6

Un amigo deseable da buenos consejos
El perfume y el incienso alegran el corazón;

TRUTHS FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATORS

TRUTHS FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATORS

Only God can create,
but you can value what He created.

Only God can give life,
but you can transmit and deliver it.

Only God can give faith,
but you can give your testimony.

Only God can give strength,
but you can support those who are discouraged.

Only God can give love,
but you can teach to love.

Only God can give happiness,
but you can show it to others.

Only God is the Light,
but you can make it shine in the world.

Only God is Life,
but you can share with others the joy of living.

Only God can do the impossible,
but you can always do what is possible.

Only God can work miracles,
but you can make the sacrifice.

Only God can germinate the seed of good,
but you can plant it in the human heart.

Only God is self-sufficient, but He prefers to count on you.

Beginning of Christian Education Week

TWO DIFFERENT TEACHERS
JOHn 3:1-15
“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus,
“and do you not understand these things?”
John 3:10 (NIV)

This meeting between Nicodemus and Jesus shows the basic differences between Israel’s traditional teaching perspective and the new proposal of Jesus. Nicodemus, a man with an important position among the Jews, sets aside all his prejudices and social distance to approach Jesus, a humble Nazarene, whom he recognizes as a man of God. Although he may have come to Jesus by night, so no one could see him, to protect his reputation, I prefer to interpret it symbolically, as arriving in the inability to orient himself, arriving amid uncertainty, at a difficult crossroads of his life. Seen in this manner, Jesus’ answers to his questions lead him toward a new manner of viewing life: the literal and simplistic understanding of life and the scriptures no longer count, what really counts is allowing the Spirit, which is like the wind that blows freely, so we can be reborn to a new way of thinking and acting.

Brothers and sisters, today God is calling us again to teach according to the Spirit. Let us set aside traditional teaching models and develop programs as dynamic as the wind, to refresh our boys and girls, and our teenagers and all generations. We must be reborn to a renewed conviction of education in the values of the kingdom of God to bring us closer to the transcendental teaching model: Jesus of Nazareth.

Prayer: O God, our teacher and friend, renew our vision as teachers so that we may worthily teach the messages of your kingdom. We ask this humbly. Amen.

Dos maestros diferentes
Juan 3:1-15
