Tuesday, July 9 LET’S BE USEFUL JOHN 4:31-39

Tuesday, July 9
LET’S BE USEFUL
JOHN 4:31-39

… I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields,
they are ready for harvest. (NIV)
John 4:35b

Jesus pointed out that postponing the harvest is typically human, but at the same time he observed that the mature grain is in the immediate present when he says, “Raise your eyes and look at the fields, because they are white for reaping.” This vision of immediate necessity is imparted to lives of faith, and the commission is given to those who have the desire to obey. We are not called to places of honor, but to places of service, and at times this service is sweaty.

What would happen if we all really saw the world’s need, and decided to do our part in it? Tomorrow never comes in the harvest of lives! Today is the language of faith and obedience.

Some months ago, on Easter Sunday various churches and hotels were bombed in Sri Lanka, causing the death of many people. It’s urgent that we be the seed of love in the world so that deeds such as those stop occurring.  There is news of violence, uncertainty, and despair in our country as well. Now is the moment! Let us raise our eyes and discover that everything is ready for the harvest.

Prayer:  Lord, today we ask for all those who desire to be useful to you. Bless and accompany them in the journey.

SEAMOS ÚTILES
JUAN 4:31-39

Monday, July 8 THE LIFE THAT YOU HOLD IN YOUR HANDS 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-15

THE LIFE THAT YOU HOLD IN YOUR HANDS
2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-15

And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NRSV)
I begin by sharing a story called The Life that You Hold Is in Your Hands.
A group of boys knew a wise man in their town, and they schemed to deceive him. They would trap a live bird and go to visit the wise man. One of them would hold the bird behind his back and ask, “Wise man, is the bird alive or dead?” If the wise man replied that it was alive, the boy would crush the bird quickly and say, “No, it’s dead.” If the wise man said, “The bird is dead,” the boy would show him the living bird. The boys managed to get the wise man to see them. The one holding the bird asked him, “Wise man, is the bird alive or dead?” After a few moments, he crouched down to the same height as the boy and said to him, “The life you hold is in your hands.”
In the same way that this story shows “The life that you hold is in your hands,” so God has given all of you the ability to convert your dreams into reality; it is in your hands to give life to or to kill your dreams. For that, you need to incorporate into your life that constant search for wisdom, shown through reading the Bible. Some discernments have helped me and may help to lead you to that extraordinary life, and they are: commitment, discipline, learning, perseverance, and responsibility. You can acquire each of those through prayer, Bible reading, communion with God and with our brothers and sisters.
Why is it hard for us to believe that we can achieve the best? Why don’t we begin living an abundant life? Why not quit living in the past and begin living your present and your future? There is a saying of Emile Zola: “The artist is nothing if he is not connected to his gift, but the gift is nothing if he does not put it to work.” Let’s start today.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for giving me the possibility of working together with you in the decisions I make in my life. Help me to always choose the best. Amen.

LA VIDA QUE SOSTIENES EN TUS MANOS
2 CORINTIOS 9:6-15

Sunday, July 7 DID GOD FORGET ABOUT ME? HOSEA 4:1-6

Sunday, July 7
DID GOD FORGET ABOUT ME?
HOSEA 4:1-6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. . .
Hosea 4:6ª (NRSV)
When you read today’s meditation surely you may think that you can identify with its title because many people think that God has forgotten about them. Do you feel a sense of identification? We often say to ourselves Why has God abandoned me? Is it perhaps that I am not worthy? I’ve placed all my faith in God, and still I have no response. I feel abandoned, alone, and sad. If God loves me, why do these bad things happen? Why do I pray without ceasing and get no response?
The reality is that many people have forgotten how to live; they have centered themselves so much on problems that they have forgotten God’s greatness and God’s plans. God has not forgotten you but has always been aware and taken care of every detail in your life. The fact of being alive is the marvelous opportunity to pursue the dreams that God put in our hearts. God never forgets you because you are God’s creation; you are a poem written by God. What follows is that God is not going to do what falls to us to do.
Let me ask a question. If you were to live your ideal life, what would you like to do? Help others? Achieve balance in your life? Strike up deep and satisfying relationships? Spend more time with your family? Enjoy life together with your spouse? Start up your own business? Live a healthy life? Have an important ministry? Lead a holy life? The list could be longer and you could tell me of things you’d like to do.
Now, all of that is possible when we get to know God. That knowledge is wisdom, and wisdom is the art of living. The lack of that knowledge brings destruction, crisis, failures and the only thing we get to see are obstacles. God probably won’t take away your obstacles every time you pray. God wants you to grow and be responsible so that, guided by the Holy Spirit and based on the Bible, you may overcome any obstacle. What God seeks is to shape and strengthen our character.
Has God forgotten you? No way! Have you forgotten God? That’s the most likely thing to happen. To not forget about God, it’s necessary to stay connected to God with a grateful heart, not a heart full of complaints. Always remember that even if you forget about God, God will never forget about you. Pursue your dreams remembering these words:  I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)

Prayer: Lord, now I know that you do not forget about me. Don’t let me forget about you. Amen.

¿DIOS SE OLVIDÓ DE MÍ?
OSEAS 4:1-6

He puesto toda mi confianza en Él y todavía no tengo respuesta. Me siento abandonado, solo y triste.

(Filipenses 1:6)

Oración: Señor, ahora sé que no me olvidaste. No permitas que yo te olvide. Amén.

Saturday, July 6 IN SEARCH OF FRUIT GALATIANS 5:16-26

Saturday, July 6
IN SEARCH OF FRUIT
GALATIANS 5:16-26

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
 patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,
Galatians 5:22 (NRSV)
As believers, we all want to have the fruit of the Spirit, but how can we know if in truth we do have it? Even nonbelievers can show these qualities when the circumstances are right. This fruit of the Spirit, which, according to scripture, has nine manifestations, is not what we do, but what we are, and basically those manifestations come to light when circumstances aren’t favorable. Two characteristics help us to recognize these qualities in our own life. Believers who bear fruit are not controlled by their environment.
Everyone undergoes trial and suffering, but the one who has a fulness of the Spirit doesn’t stop bearing fruit in adverse conditions. She maintains her joy even when difficulties are overwhelming. If someone speaks harshly, the believer responds with kindness, because the Holy Spirit has control, is free to produce its fruit, no matter what the circumstances. Even though believers may feel pain, anger, or a desire for revenge, they choose to believe that the Lord will protect them and direct the results.
Believers who bear fruit recover quickly after a fall. These believers are not perfect, but they are very sensitive to how the Spirit redeems, and they are quick to return to the Lord in repentance. Truly, they are happy for correction and give praise to God, not only for the revelation of their weakness, but also for having been brought back to obedience. No one produces these amazing qualities alone. Striving to be good never works. Transformation of our character is produced when we submit to God, giving God total control of our lives.

Prayer: Lord, help me to take control of my life, and to place you in the center of it in such a way that it can change me into a believer who bears good fruit. Amen.

paz, paciencia, benignidad,  bondad, fe…

Friday, July 5 GOD USES OBEDIENCE TO DEVELOP OUR FAITH MATTHEW 14:22-31

Friday, July 5
GOD USES OBEDIENCE
TO DEVELOP OUR FAITH
MATTHEW 14:22-31

Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him,
"You of little faith, why did you doubt?"
Matthew 14:31 (NRSV)
Remember when Jesus called to Peter to set foot outside the boat and walk to him amid the water. This was a call to leave the security of the boat for the insecurity of walking on the water. Torn between obedience and fear, Peter took the first step, and then after hesitating, when Jesus reaches out his hand and his foot doesn’t sink in the water, his faith was reaffirmed. God uses obedience to put us in a place where we can develop faith. Jesus calls us to take the first step, and then only when we have taken that step will the next one be revealed. In this sense, it isn’t possible to develop faith without believing in Jesus. You may have an overloaded brain with which God can deal, but unless you take that first step, you will not exercise faith.
However, here is where many of us get stuck. We doubt, and we take a step away from obedience to speculate on what we should do, when Jesus has already told us. There is no other path but obedience to develop faith.
Only by leaving the security of the boat was Peter able to discover the greater security that is in Jesus. Truly, Jesus is the only security. Peter knows that firsthand – or perhaps, first step – that Jesus is Lord of all circumstances.
The sages of today tell us that security is in the boat, but the reality is that the place of salvation is when we risk ourselves at Jesus’ side.

Prayer: My dear Jesus, teach me to hold your hand every day and to learn that true salvation is by your side. We pray in your holy name. Amen

DIOS USA LA OBEDIENCIA PARA
DESARROLLAR NUESTRA FE
MATEO 14:22-31

Thursday, July 4 Celebration of the Mission Church CANIP CONSTANTS IN PRAYER ROMANS 12:12-13

Thursday, July 4
Celebration of the Mission Church CANIP
CONSTANTS IN PRAYER
ROMANS 12:12-13

Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.
Romans 12:12 (NRSV)
It was already late, and the time had come for my nephew Alberto to go to bed. The child hugged his parents lovingly and then, turning to his grandmother, also kissed her and said, “Good night, Grandma. I’m going to bed. Do you need anything?” “No, sweetheart, but why do you ask me that?” said the grandmother. Then the child replied, “Because I’m going to say my prayers.” Isn’t that a lesson for us? Is this how we start and end our days?
Blessed are the grandparents who benefit from the prayers of their grandchildren, and vice versa. How privileged are those grandchildren whose names are uttered on bended knee every morning and night by their parents and grandparents! For example, among those who are retired, is there any activity which has more value? Many tend their garden with care. Do not the young souls in their charge deserve to be cultivated day by day to the end that they may bear fruit for God?
At the age of 80 years, the author of these lines hasn’t forgotten the short prayer that his mama taught him to say every night at the foot of his bed when he was a child: “Lord Jesus, teach me to know you and to love you . . . .”

Prayer: Thank you, my good God, for the life of my parents and grandparents. Bless all those who maintain an abundant and fruitful prayer life. Amen.

Celebración de la Iglesia Dependiente del CANIP
CONSTANTES EN LA ORACIÓN
ROMANOS 12:12-13

...gozosos en la esperanza; sufridos en la tribulación;
constantes en la oración…
Romanos 12:12

Wednesday, July 3 ON PATHS OF VICTORY 2 PETER 3:15-18

Wednesday, July 3
ON PATHS OF VICTORY
2 PETER 3:15-18

See, the LORD your God has given the land to you; go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you; do not fear or be dismayed
Deuteronomy 1:21 (NRSV)
The term “surrounded” is cabab in the original Hebrew. It means “to spin around,” and could be translated “to go in circles.” Israel had been on the very borders of the Promised Land. They could have entered immediately. In today’s text we read how Israel preferred to follow the discouraging report of the spies in place of God’s instructions. To go in and possess the land meant struggle and hard work, and they felt afraid. The result was that Israel returned to the desert instead of victoriously entering Canaan. They found a place of rest on Mount Seir. There were no battles nor had work there. All they did was drink water from the rock and eat manna. There was neither progress nor victory. And they stayed there many days.  They went in circles again and again, not going anywhere.
Believer, how far have you progressed since you came to know God? Have you been going in circles? Is the Word more precious to you now than a year ago? Do you pray more effectively than a year ago? Is your love toward Christ and for souls more fervent than a year ago? Are you believing, or only going in circles? Remember today and pay heed to his Word: Return to where Canaan is and victory.

Prayer: Our God, help us to lay aside our doubts so that we may walk in paths of victory. Amen.

EN CAMINOS DE VICTORIA
2 PEDRO 3:15-18

¿Has estado yendo en círculos?
