ON PATHS OF VICTORY

2 PETER 3:15-18

See, the LORD your God has given the land to you; go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you; do not fear or be dismayed

Deuteronomy 1:21 (NRSV)

            The term “surrounded” is cabab in the original Hebrew. It means “to spin around,” and could be translated “to go in circles.” Israel had been on the very borders of the Promised Land. They could have entered immediately. In today’s text we read how Israel preferred to follow the discouraging report of the spies in place of God’s instructions. To go in and possess the land meant struggle and hard work, and they felt afraid. The result was that Israel returned to the desert instead of victoriously entering Canaan. They found a place of rest on Mount Seir. There were no battles nor had work there. All they did was drink water from the rock and eat manna. There was neither progress nor victory. And they stayed there many days.  They went in circles again and again, not going anywhere.

            Believer, how far have you progressed since you came to know God? Have you been going in circles? Is the Word more precious to you now than a year ago? Do you pray more effectively than a year ago? Is your love toward Christ and for souls more fervent than a year ago? Are you believing, or only going in circles? Remember today and pay heed to his Word: Return to where Canaan is and victory.

Prayer: Our God, help us to lay aside our doubts so that we may walk in paths of victory. Amen.

El Señor, el Dios de ustedes, les entrega esta tierra. Adelante, pues, ocúpenla tal como lo ha dicho el Señor

El término “rodeado” es cabab en el original hebreo. Significa: “dar vueltas”. Podría traducirse como: “ir en círculos”. Israel había estado en los mismos límites de la tierra prometida de Canaán. Hubieran podido entrar de inmediato. En el texto de hoy leemos como Israel prefirió seguir el desaliento de los espías en lugar de las instrucciones de Dios. Ir a poseer la tierra significaba luchar y laborar duramente, y sintieron temor. El resultado de ello fue que Israel volvió al desierto, en lugar de entrar victoriosamente en Canaán. Encontraron un lugar de reposo en el monte Seir. Allí no había batallas ni duras labores. Todo lo que hacían era beber de la roca y comer del maná.  No había progreso, ni victoria. Y allí quedaron muchos días. Fueron en círculos una y otra vez, no yendo a ninguna parte.

Creyente ¿Cuánto has progresado desde que conociste a Dios? ¿Has estado yendo en círculos? ¿Es la Palabra más preciosa para ti ahora que hace un año? ¿Oras con mayor eficacia que hace un año? ¿Es tu amor hacia Cristo y las almas, más ferviente ahora que hace un año? ¿Estás creciendo, o solamente yendo en círculos? Recapacita hoy, y da oído a su Palabra: Vuelve hacia donde se halla Canaán y la victoria.

Oración: Dios nuestro, ayúdanos a dejar a un lado nuestras dudas, para que podamos andar en caminos de victoria. Amén.
