LET’S BE USEFUL

JOHN 4:31-39

… I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields,

they are ready for harvest. (NIV)

John 4:35b

Jesus pointed out that postponing the harvest is typically human, but at the same time he observed that the mature grain is in the immediate present when he says, “Raise your eyes and look at the fields, because they are white for reaping.” This vision of immediate necessity is imparted to lives of faith, and the commission is given to those who have the desire to obey. We are not called to places of honor, but to places of service, and at times this service is sweaty.  

What would happen if we all really saw the world’s need, and decided to do our part in it? Tomorrow never comes in the harvest of lives! Today is the language of faith and obedience.

Some months ago, on Easter Sunday various churches and hotels were bombed in Sri Lanka, causing the death of many people. It’s urgent that we be the seed of love in the world so that deeds such as those stop occurring.  There is news of violence, uncertainty, and despair in our country as well. Now is the moment! Let us raise our eyes and discover that everything is ready for the harvest.

Prayer:  Lord, today we ask for all those who desire to be useful to you. Bless and accompany them in the journey.

… he aquí os digo: Alzad vuestros ojos y mirad los campos, porque ya están blancos para la siega

Jesús señaló que el posponer la siega es típicamente humano, pero al mismo tiempo observó que el grano maduro está en el inmediato presente cuando dice: alzad vuestros ojos, y mirad los campos, porque ya están blancos para la siega. Esta visión de necesidad inmediata es impartida a vidas de fe, y la comisión es dada a los que tengan el deseo de obedecer. No somos llamados a lugares de honor, sino a lugares de servicio; y a menudo este es un servicio sudoroso.

¿Qué sucedería si todos viéramos realmente la necesidad del mundo y nos decidiéramos a hacer nuestra parte en él? ¡Mañana nunca llega en la cosecha de vidas! El lenguaje de fe y obediencia es hoy. Hace algunos meses, en el Domingo de Resurrección varias iglesias y hoteles fueron bombardeados en Sri Lanka, causando la muerte de muchas personas. Es urgente que seamos semilla de amor en el mundo para que hechos como este dejen de ocurrir. También en nuestro país hay noticias de violencia, incertidumbre, desesperanza. ¡El momento es ahora! Alcemos nuestros ojos y descubramos que todo está listo para la siega.

Oración: Señor, te pedimos hoy por todos aquellos que desean serte útiles. Bendíceles y acompáñalos en el camino. Amén.
