THE LIFE THAT YOU HOLD IN YOUR HANDS

2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-15

And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NRSV)

            I begin by sharing a story called The Life that You Hold Is in Your Hands.

            A group of boys knew a wise man in their town, and they schemed to deceive him. They would trap a live bird and go to visit the wise man. One of them would hold the bird behind his back and ask, “Wise man, is the bird alive or dead?” If the wise man replied that it was alive, the boy would crush the bird quickly and say, “No, it’s dead.” If the wise man said, “The bird is dead,” the boy would show him the living bird. The boys managed to get the wise man to see them. The one holding the bird asked him, “Wise man, is the bird alive or dead?” After a few moments, he crouched down to the same height as the boy and said to him, “The life you hold is in your hands.”

            In the same way that this story shows “The life that you hold is in your hands,” so God has given all of you the ability to convert your dreams into reality; it is in your hands to give life to or to kill your dreams. For that, you need to incorporate into your life that constant search for wisdom, shown through reading the Bible. Some discernments have helped me and may help to lead you to that extraordinary life, and they are: commitment, discipline, learning, perseverance, and responsibility. You can acquire each of those through prayer, Bible reading, communion with God and with our brothers and sisters.

            Why is it hard for us to believe that we can achieve the best? Why don’t we begin living an abundant life? Why not quit living in the past and begin living your present and your future? There is a saying of Emile Zola: “The artist is nothing if he is not connected to his gift, but the gift is nothing if he does not put it to work.” Let’s start today.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for giving me the possibility of working together with you in the decisions I make in my life. Help me to always choose the best. Amen.

LA VIDA QUE SOSTIENES EN TUS MANOS

2 CORINTIOS 9:6-15

Y poderoso es Dios para hacer que abunde en vosotros toda gracia, a fin de que, teniendo siempre en todas las cosas todo los suficiente,

abundéis para toda buena obra.                            2 Corintios 9:8

Comienzo compartiendo un relato llamado: La vida que sostienes está en tus manos: Un grupo de chicos conocían a un hombre sabio de su pueblo y urdieron un plan para engañarle. Atraparían a un pájaro vivo e irían a visitar al hombre sabio. Uno de ellos sostendría el pájaro detrás de la espalda y le preguntaría: “Hombre sabio, ¿el pájaro está vivo o muerto?” Si el hombre sabio respondía que estaba vivo, el chico aplastaría rápidamente al pájaro y diría: “No, está muerto”. Si el hombre sabio decía: “El pájaro está muerto”, el chico le enseñaría el pájaro con vida. Los chicos consiguieron que el hombre sabio los recibiera. El que sostenía al pájaro le preguntó: “Hombre sabio, ¿el pájaro está vivo o muerto?” El hombre sabio permaneció en silencio durante unos instantes. Después se agachó hasta que quedó a la misma altura que el chico y le dijo: “La vida que sostienes está en tus manos”.

De la misma manera que muestra este relato “La vida que sostienes está en tus manos,” Dios te ha dado toda la capacidad de poder convertir tus sueños en realidad; está en tus manos el darle vida o matar tus sueños. Para ello, necesitas incorporar a tu vida esa búsqueda constante de la sabiduría manifestada a través de la lectura de la Biblia; algunas distinciones que me han ayudado y pueden llevarte a esa vida extraordinaria y que son:  el compromiso, la disciplina, el aprendizaje, la perseverancia y la responsabilidad. Cada una de ellas las puedes adquirir mediante la oración, la lectura de la Biblia, la comunión con Dios y nuestros hermanos y hermanas.  ¿Por qué nos cuesta creer que podemos tener o lograr lo mejor? ¿Por qué no comienzas a vivir la vida abundante? ¿Por qué no dejas de vivir en el pasado y comienzas a vivir tu presente y tu futuro? Hay una frase de Emile Zola que dice: “El artista no es nada si no está conectado con su don, pero el don no es nada si no se lo pone a trabajar”. Comencemos hoy.

Oración: Gracias, Dios, por darme la posibilidad de trabajar junto a ti en las decisiones que tomo en mi vida. Ayúdame a decidir siempre lo mejor. Amén.
